THAT METAL DEBATE: Top 5 Worst Album Covers (On Great Albums)

Last week on That Metal Show, we were joined by comedian/guitarist Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society) and former front man of Queensryche Geoff Tate, who talked about the betrayal that came with the implosion of the band. Also on our mini stage, we had guest shredder George Lynch joining in on the action.

This week’s TMS Top 5 is different from the rest. Instead of choosing a list based on just the music, we decided to combine music and looks to come up with the Top 5 Worst Album Covers, but the albums have to be great. (We are superficial, we know.) Here’s what we came up with.

TMS Top 5 Worst Album Covers on Great Albums

1. Riot – Fire Down Under

Eddie, Don, and Jim all agree it’s an amazing record, but Riot has had a series of horrendous album covers so we can’t really say we’re surpised by it being #1.  Jim also said it makes him want to club a baby seal. (Don’t worry PETA, no seals were harmed during the filming of That Metal Show).

Madonna Defends Her Controversial MDNA Tour With Poetic Manifesto

Though no stranger to controversy, Madonna seems to have taken things to a whole new level with her current MDNA tour. There have been tears and protests, swastika iconography and fake gun wagging, lawsuits and body parts, and all this before she touched back down stateside for the tour’s North American leg, which begins tonight in Philadelphia. For her latest controversial move, she put pen to paper and scribed a letter of explanation for these faux pas past, insisting mostly that her show “not be taken out of context” of her “journey.” Read more…

BRACKET MADNESS: Are You A “Stan” For Eminem Or “Do U Wanna Ride” For Jay-Z?

The 2000s seem like nearly yesterday. Really. It doesn’t feel like 12 years ago we were rapping along to Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” and Jay Z‘s “This Can’t Be Life.” We’re back with another Bracket Madness for the greatest artist of the 2000s. While NSYNC and Backstreet Boys go toe-to-toe on the boy band front, and Beyonce and Britney Spears face-off for their pop singing match, Eminem and Jay-Z will battle in a street corner cipher (obviously not literally, although this would be awesome) for votes to send one of these rhyme slayers to round two. BRACKET MADNESS: Did Nickelback Or Linkin Park Rock Your 00s?

This round of Bracket Madness‘ third match-up draws a battle between popular Aught rockers Nickelback and Linkin Park. In a decade where pop mostly reigned supreme, both these rock groups were able to establish sounds and styles of their own, and to sell tons and tons of records. Nickelback have filled arenas with their melodic, post-grunge rock, while Linkin Park have paved the way for rock-rap groups a many. If only one of these two great rock groups can move on to the next round of the Greatest Artist of the 00s, who should it be? Read more…

Will.I.Am Is Collaborating With Britney Spears, Mick Jagger… And NASA’s Mars Rover!

Black Eyed Peas frontman released the track list for his forthcoming and very au courant album, #willpower. Over the years, has worked in some capacity with seemingly everyone, and it looks like he’s cashing in all his favors for this fourth solo album. A newly released track list for this next effort is loaded heavy musical collaborations, all of the following making some sort of appearance: Britney Spears, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Chris Brown, David Guetta, Eva Simons, Redfoo and Nicole Scherzinger. And were that not enough, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger and Cheryl Cole, too, will be included on the album’s deluxe edition.

The collaboration doesn’t end there, though, and this next one is truly for the history books: NASA announced today that they have teamed up with to debut the album’s next single from the surface of Mars. “Reach for the Stars” will be transmitted to Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, tomorrow at 1 PM PT as part of a special educational event that will promote science education by showing-off NASA’s Curiosity rover and its intergalactic findings — this new song apparently. “My song is finally going to be beamed back to earth from MARS,” tweeted yesterday, excitedly because finally. Mars! Read more…

Jennifer Lopez Emotionally Covers Selena’s “No Me Queda Mas”

As kids we almost believed Jennifer Lopez was actually Selena Quintanilla-Perez because she played the slain Tejano singer so well in the 1997 film Selena. To pay tribute to the late singer, J.Lo covered Selena’s “No Me Queda Mas” during her Dallas tour stop. In her flowing red dress J.Lo crooned the words, “no me queda mas” to screaming fans who all sung along. A seemingly emotion J.Lo pushed her vocals to a high range to thunderous applauds from the crowd. We can’t believe its been 15 years since the debut of the film. And J.Lo’s still rocking out packed shows not looking a day over 25. Read more…
