Flo Rida Knocks Carly Rae Jepsen From The Top Of The Charts, Is The Summer Of “Maybe” Over?

This week, Flo Rida‘s “Whistle” song shakes “Call Me Maybe” from its comfy perch atop Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, a feat that seemed impossible just a few weeks ago. It took sixteen weeks to rise in the charts, but it was evident to all from first listen that Carly Rae Jepsen‘s hit would be a smash. And so what, maybe she’s never actually given a guy her number. After sixteen weeks of rise and nine at number one, it seemed possible that “Call Me Maybe” beamed with a sort of pop magic that could never be dampened. But alas, here it has, and we now are forced to reckon: is the reign of “Call Me” over, maybe? Read more…

Some old outtake footage of  One Direction‘s “What Makes You Beautiful” video has picked up a bit of buzz lately. Why? The British fab-hair five sang a cover of Oasis‘ “Wonderwall!” Now take a minute to reconcile the fact that the most successful UK act between 1995 and 2005 was just covered by the tour de force of English boy bands whose members were likely between the ages of one and three when the track was first released.

Carrie Underwood VH1 Unplugged And Behind The Music Episodes Are On The Way!

Prepare to be blown away: Carrie Underwood has both a VH1 Unplugged and a VH1 Behind The Music on the way! The shiny but tough country babe broke the good news this morning on Big Morning Buzz Live. “I’m excited,” she gushed, before sharing that she’s a little nervous, too.

We love that big voice and bold attitude of hers and we are eager to see her shine when it’s stripped down on Unplugged. “It’s really cool to have it really be all about the songs and the music and to just get and go and sing,” she says. “It doesn’t need all the extra stuff sometimes.”

And as for sharing her story with Behind The Music, she’s laughed that, “I hope mine’s not seriously boring, because I’ve had such a wonderful life, and it just seems like everything has really happened … and now I get to do the most wonderful job ever.” Which is exactly how we know it won’t be boring! The run from American Idol winner to chart-topper and Grammy winner and everything before and beyond sounds exactly the opposite. We can’t wait!

Carrie tapes her stripped down set later this week in New York, and both Unplugged and Behind The Music will air sometime this fall. And if you check back here, we will keep you up to date with info and sneak peaks until then! Read more…

Nicki Minaj Spreads Love The Queens Way At Free Concert With Surprise Guests Drake, Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown And Cam’ron

Nicki Gives Free Concert at Roseland Ballroom

Nicki Minaj is a woman of her word when it comes to promises made to her Barbz. The pink wigged Queens rapper made good on holding a free concert for fans after pulling out of Hot 97’s Summer Jam concert. At the Roseland Ballroom in NYC last night Nicki was all smiles as she performed hits like “Roman’s Revenge,” “Did It on Em” and “Pound the Alarm.” For the nearly two hour set she also reached back to her mixtape days with songs from Beam Me Up Scotty. Wardrobe changes and surprises were all part of the Barbie’s production. Foxy Brown, Cam’ron, Drake and Lil Wayne joined her for what was a fun hip-hop family affair. And because her fans mean the world to her, the show was live-streamed online and broadcast on the huge screen in Times Square. Throughout the show she talked to her fans to let them know they were all that really mattered. “I just want my fans here, ’cause I don’t want people to come and observe me,” she yelled to the crowd. “If you didn’t come here to have a good time, go home!” Check out the flicks from Nicki’s Roseland Ballroom concert sponsored by Pepsi. Tuned In: Grimes Is A Vision On Jimmy Fallon

Canadian synth-pop singer Grimes made a splash in the last year, her standout album Visions and her distinctive fashion — both on show in the weird and wonderful “Oblivion” video — earning critical acclaim from Pitchfork and W Magazine the New York Times alike. Already a darling of the fringe, she made her American television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, and we have to imagine she earned herself a few more fans with her performance. Draped in a long red robe and standing in a pile of flower petals, she sang “Genesis” while two women danced behind her in jets of stream. If her etheral-coo of a voice isn’t enough to charm you, then her impressive managing of the keyboard, mixer, and mic all at the same time is sure to get you.

Nicki Minaj “Pounds The Alarm” This Morning On The Today Show

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Spiting injury and early hour, Nicki Minaj got up early this morning to “Pound The Alarm” in Rockefeller Center for the Today Show’s Summer Concert. Late last night, Nicki sent out a worrying series of tweets that suggested she was “out for the count” with a bruised vocal chord. “The doctor asked me to take 2 wks of voice rest… But…,” she wrote. But what? Nicki’s never been much for the rules, and with Jordin Sparks backstage also with a bruised vocal chord praying for her, she prevailed. Hitting the stage in a red leather-and-lace body suit and with a troupe of shirtless male dancers for backup for an excited, Nicki opened the morning with “Starships,” and then performed “I Am Your Leader” and “Beez In The Trap” for her “gritty Barbz in the audience.” She sent the hometown audience out into day with the upbeat, island flavored “Pound The Alarm.” If she was feeling less than her best, we couldn’t have known.

Check out the rest of the performances below:
