Judging by Rihanna’s performance on last night’s American Idol season finale, she has no intention of killing the Illuminati rumors any time soon. If anything she’s laughing at the ridiculous conspiracy theorists by feeding them exactly what they want. In an Egyptian themed set-up, Rihanna performed her No. 1 single “Where Have You Been” from her sixth album Talk That Talk . Rocking her new dreadlock hairdo, Riri emerges from a brightly lit pyramid. She and the pyramid are guarded by shirtless men while other bare chest men beat on the drums. Dressed in all black Rihanna immerses herself into the choreography similar to that of the dance moves in the video. Vocally Rihanna’s voice sounds strong, and of course we appreciate her singing live while dancing. Read more…
We tend to like our beef on a bun or with A1 steak sauce, but if it’s rap beef, put it on wax rather than Twitter. Well, that’s exactly what Pusha T of G.O.O.D. Music did in his hot new track “Exodus 23:1″ where he disses Drake, Lil Wayne and the entire YMCMB squad. GlobalGrind.com suggests the diss is a response to Drake’s slight jab on Meek Mill’s “Amen.” On the record Drake raps, “G.O.O.D ain’t good enough, and your hood ain’t hood enough.” Although it’s not clear if Drake was throwing shade Pusha T’s, Pusha T responded on his latest track featuring The Dream. When 2 Chainz LaGuardia Airport arrest hit the news yesterday we knew, as the wise saying goes, something wasn’t clean in the milk. After finding what TSA believed to be brass knuckles in Chainz’s carry-on bag, NYPD took him to jail on a misdemeanor possession of a weapon charge. The southern rapper spoke with MTV News and said the NYPD tried to “assassinate my swag.” Turns out the alleged brass knuckles was only a four finger ring, one of the many pieces of jewelry he has custom made to complement his style. MTV News reports the rapper spent eight to nine hours in jail (according to 2 Chainz) and had all of his jewelry confiscated before he was released after eventually pleading guilty to a lesser unspecified charge. What’s with all this swagger jacking? Read more…
The mystery of 50 Cent holding cuddly stuffed animals while hospitalized has been solved. Vice.com interviewed the rapper and DJ Drama about their upcoming mixtape The Lost Tape, but the interview turned out to be much more about 50’s favorite animal and hipsters. He tells VICE firsthand why he was in the hospital. It turns out it wasn’t a publicity stunt like rumors suggested (we told you!). It was the case of eating a meal in London that didn’t set well with him resulting in food poisoning. Read more…
John Legend’s fiancee Chrissy Teigen learned the hard way that criticizing Chris Brown leads to death threats. Literally. Turns out P!nk wasn’t the only person not feeling Brown’s lipsyncing. After Chrissy tweeted, “live singing is a helluva drug” during Brown’s Billboard Music Awards performance, team Breezy got sensitive and quite defensive. His
stans fans flooded her mentions tweeting her obscenities, death threats and hurls of insults that she was irrelevant, or only relevant because of her famous musician husband to be. Teigen “clapped back” finding all the hatred amusing and sad at the same time. She sarcastically teased Brown’s fans for their incorrect grammar and overall ignorance. Mostly she was sad that there were a legion of young ladies that desperately defended Brown without having ever met him a day in their lives. Those Breezy fans are vicious!
According to Necolebitchie.com, John Legend stayed out of the drama for obvious reasons– until Chris Brown tweeted (which since has been deleted), “Team Breezy! Lets stop sending death threats! I know y’all bout that life but it’s the wrong message! Ur turning haters into victims! And that only furthers their pointless existence.” That must have been the straw that broke the camel’s back for Mr. Calm, Cool, Collected John Legend. He took to Twitter and responded, “Personally, I don’t think @chrissyteigen’s existence is pointless. Nor anyone else who dares criticize a performance.” He continued, “Every artist has to be ok with the fact that some people won’t like their work. All critics aren’t “haters.” Lastly (in our favorite response) he tweeted,”And don’t ever tell me to put my “bitch on a leash”. She’s a grown woman with her own mind and her own opinions and this is not 1950.”
Tell ‘em John! Although he never directly responded to Brown it’s crystal clear who he was referring to. We admire the chivalry of John. The fact that he’s such a nice guy with a clean cut image makes his defense of Chrissy that much cuter. Two snaps!

Trina may soon join the ranks of the slews of artists that have been accused (and sued) for bailing on a performance in which they’ve already been paid. TMZ reports the Miami rapper allegedly ditched on a St. Louis club performance she was paid $7,000 to do on May 19. And the promoter isn’t having it! Per TMZ, Trina’s no-show caused a lot of upset attendees to ask for their money back. TMZ learned the promoter plans to sue Trina for at least $16,000m which is $11,000 more than what the rapper was initially paid. Apparently the promoter wants the $7,000 fee, promotional costs and damages.
Most known for her 1998 debut album Da Baddest Bitch, Trina has struggled to remain on top as a female emcee. Just prior to Nicki Mianj’s rise to fame, Trina held it down as the only mainstream female rapper putting out music, but sustaining her spot hasn’t been easy. Her rep denies the allegations saying due to a conflicting schedule with other engagements, Trina cancelled long before the event . And in her southern belle way, the rep claims Trina even tried to return the $7,000, but the promoter refused. How noble of the rapper known for her raunchy lyrics yet soft voice. She is now lawyered up and is accusing the promoter of false advertisement. Trina isn’t the first and won’t be the last to cancel a performance. But we all know keeping the money for a job that wasn’t done is the fastest way to end up in court. People don’t play about their money.

Earlier this month the world loss a pioneer in hip-hop when Adam “MCA” Yauch died from cancer at 47. While we mourned the death of a great musician, Beastie Boys group member Adam Horovitz lost a lifelong friend. For the first time since MCA’s death on May 4, Horovitz opened up to RollingStone.com about the group’s vetoing system, MCA’s talent and fearlessness. When asked how he’s handling the pain Horovitz replied, “I’m totally numb.” He went on to reveal a time he was walking his dog and began to cry on the street. But through the grief he shares fond memories of Yauch. Read more…
It seems as if Lupe Fiasco is always in hot water over something. Per Idolator.com, legendary super producer Pete Rock is not pleased with the Lupe’s fresh new track “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” the first single from the long awaited Food & Liquor 2 . The single quickly rose to No. 3 on the Rap & Hip-Hop category of the iTunes charts, but Pete Rock doesn’t care about that. His beef is that he didn’t want anyone to sample his classic “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” that he created with C.L. Smooth where the hypnotizing horn from Tom Scott’s “Today” blares. And don’t get Pete Rock mad. He’ll unleash his unfiltered thoughts on Twitter.
In expressing his disapproval of the use of his beat being changed Rock sent a series of tweets about why T.R.O.Y. should have been left alone. He tweets, “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one!” Of course his disclaimer about liking Lupe didn’t stop the pot stirrers from trying to incite a beef between the rapper and producer causing Pete Rock to tweet, “And y’all need to stop the childish games. I’m a fan of lupe and he is a great artist and a great person.” Read more…
fun. is currently making the rounds of the European promotional circuit, where they’re pushing their excellent new album, Some Nights. Last week, during a BBC Radio 1 visit, they covered Gotye’s “Somebody I Used To Know,” a clip that unsurprisingly went viral. Proving they’re fully tapped into the cultural zeitgeist, the gents stopped by the Dutch radio station 3FM yesterday and decided to tackle Carly Rae Jepsen‘s irresistible “Call Me Maybe.” Just because the threesome are reading the lyrics off of a sheet of Xerox paper doesn’t mean that they don’t understand the song’s rhythmic structure innately; their faithful cover does an admirable job of trying to match the exuberance of Jepsen’s original. While we’re anxious for someone to give “Call Me Maybe” the kind of stalkerish flip that Travis famously gave to the Britney Spears classic “Baby One More Time”, there’s little doubt in our minds that fun.’s cover will brighten up your Wednesday morning.
UPDATE (12:05 p.m.): Sorry guys, the stream has expired. That said, we’ll be sure and keep you posted when clips from the show go live on MTV Hive.
Garbage’s highly anticipated fifth album, Not Your Kind of People, just dropped yesterday. And to celebrate its release, MTV Hive livestreamed the alt-pop foursome’s first New York City show in over seven years from Manhattan’s Webster Hall last night. Rather than standing in the back, fighting to see over those tall dudes who always seem to stand directly in front of you at concerts, you’ll be able to witness Shirley Manson in all her glory as you watch the entire Live In NYC show right here on VH1 Tuner. Be still my 1990s, post-grunge, prepubescent, beating heart! (Just remember to keep your fingers close to those Alt and Tab buttons in case your boss unexpectedly swings over…)
