Linkin Park Is Bringing Heavy Back With “The Catalyst”

For better or worse, most of the songs that have topped the pop charts during the Obama presidency have been of the light, fluffy variety (think “I Gotta Feeling,” think “Single Ladies,” think “California Gurls”). However, if you’ve been craving a return to Bush-era heaviness on the radio, look no further than Linkin Park’s new video for “The Catalyst,” the first single off their upcoming A Thousand Suns LP. We showed you a :30 sneak earlier this week, but now we’ve got the whole, mega-intense 4 minute and 42 second clip for you to watch above!

In it, Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda and the rest of the boys in Linkin Park warn that “We’re broken people living under loaded gun” and that “We’re oceans bleeding to the sky” against a backdrop of violent floods, ominous smoke-filled rooms and crumbling cities. So much for “Yes We Can”, right?

So, do you think that it’s high time that nu metal jams like these returned to the top of the charts, or do you prefer your music to be catchy and carefree? Either way, be sure to tune into the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown this and every weekend to find out what music videos are ruling the roost.

T.I, the proclaimed ?King of the South,? got personal last night during VH1?s Storytellers taping saying, ?Even when I lose faith in myself there is something in me that speaks through and says I am not finished yet? as he hit the stage of New York City?s Hammerstein Ballroom and kept the capacity crowd on their feet the whole night as he blazed through a set of career hits. Sneak Peek: Linkin Park’s “Catalyst” For A Comeback

Last week, we gave you a taste of what Linkin Park’s video for “The Catalyst” would look like by way of a few still photos (which, if you missed them, are also included below). Now, in advance of the video debut of their first single off their forthcoming A Thousand Suns LP on Thursday at midnight, we’ve got a thirty(ish) second sneak peek of this super intense video for all of you Linkin Park fans out there. We’re still trying to figure out the concept for the video, but we now know that our prediction that it would be a tribute to Gotcha! was off the mark. Instead of a lighthearted romp featuring a friendly game of paintball, this clip shows Chester and the boys passionately trying to communicate to a hoard of hoodie-clad teens while surrounded by scary-looking dudes in gas masks. While we’re still not quite sure what’s going on here, we know one thing for certain — “California Gurls” this ain’t!

Also! Don’t forget to tune in to the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown this weekend to see what Linkin Park’s new video looks like on something larger than your computer monitor!

Sneak Peek Taylor Swift’s “Mine”

The last time we sneak peeked a Taylor Swift video, it was for “The Best Day,” a warm and fuzzy song about her relationship with her mom. Now it’s for “Mine,” a warm and fuzzy song about a boy — a boy who “made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter.”

Like “The Best Day,” this video cycles through images that highlight the relationship. But an engagement ring is the most important prop here, not baby toys. Yep, country’s brightest little star is all grown up.

The single “Mine” is from Taylor’s new album, Speak Now, to be released October 25. Check back Friday, Aug.25, at 8:30PM EST to watch the video’s full world premiere.

Linkin Park Prepares For Their Comeback With “Catalyst” (Photos)

lpark7

Of all the bands that were born during the mid-90s nu metal era, few would have predicted that Linkin Park would one day be recognized as the genre’s most successful act. While Korn and Limp Bizkit grabbed all of the early headlines, both bands found themselves with rapidly declining followings by the time the early 2000s rolled along. Linkin Park, on the other hand, has managed to stay artistically and commercially viable to this date.

The band is preparing to launch their fourth studio album, A Thousand Suns, on September 14. We’re still a few weeks away from the video debut of the album’s first single, “Catalyst,” but we managed to get our paws on a few stills from the video and wanted to pass them along to you. It’s tough to tell exactly what’s going on here, but based upon the presence of exploding paintballs in a few of these shots, our fingers are crossed that they found creative inspiration from the movie Gotcha!

Train’s Comeback Continues With A Special Unplugged Performance

If the Grammys gave out a Comeback Performer Of The Year award (and, really, why don’t they?), the guys from Train would have to prepare themselves an acceptance speech. After all but disappearing from the music scene for nearly five years, last October saw the release of their album Save Me San Francisco. Although expectations weren’t high for the band to reclaim their former position as hitmakers, the song “Hey, Soul Sister” came out of nowhere to be a massive smash not only on radio, but also in our Top 20 Video Countdown. And now, the band’s second single, “If It’s Love,” is connecting, too; it’s currently sitting in the #7 spot in our countdown this week. And that’s not all!

Patrick Monahan and the rest of the fellas in Train recently took time out of their touring schedule to sit down for their first Unplugged session. The band performed six songs, two of which you can see in this post, the rest of which are available on Train’s Unplugged page. Above, you can watch them perform their monster single, “Hey, Soul Sister.” And below, watch them cover Rihanna’s “Umbrella” with the help of some very lucky audience members.

Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” Video (30-Second Sneak Peek)

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” is, without a doubt, the song of the summer of 2010. Not only has it been perched near the top of the Billboard charts since June, it’s also still sitting high atop our weekly Top 20 Video Countdown. That said, there’s only a few weeks left until the release of her new LP, Teenage Dream, and the best way to get fans excited to go out and purchase the new album is to release another catchy single and another sexy video. As you’ll see, the future Mrs. Russell Brand really delivers on both fronts; the Max Martin produced song has one of the year’s most bangin’ choruses (right up there with Ke$ha’s “Your Love Is My Drug”) and, well, Perry has never looked better than she does in this video. You’ll have to wait until next week to see the whole thing, but hopefully this snippet will tide you over until then.

“It’s short and it’s fun, it counts down from 10 to 1, it’s The Short List,” goes the theme to VH1′s new, abbreviated countdown show. And so it does, and so it is. The premiere episode ran down the list of Lady Gaga‘s 10 Craziest Fashion Moments. Check out the clip above and the entire tally below…
