Jon, Jordan, Donnie, Joey and Danny are back, and it’s pretty obvious that their audience couldn’t be more excited. VMAs 2008: Sex, Drugs, and Russell Brand

Always best to get someone a little outrageous to host a party as unpredictable as MTV’s annual VMAs show. Russell Brand is a little outrageous. In fact, he’s a lot outrageous. The British actor-comedian likes to indulge his impulsive side; the last several years have found him earning a rep as a carousing stud, a crazed drug abuser, and a rabid football fan. No wonder the Brit tabs flock to him. Happily, only the outrageous side remains these days (though the stud thing may linger a bit). Without question, that’s the part we’re likely to see when he hosts this year’s VMAs show on MTV (September 7).

If you want to know more about the guy, like why one paper called him “Shagger Of the Year” and why he did battle with Sir Bob Geldof, take a stroll through our 20 Things You Should Know About Russell Brand feature.

Is Avril Lavigne Too Sexy For Malaysia?

Will Avril Lavigne get to sex up Malaysia? On Thursday concert organizers will meet with ministry officials, who decided the planned date for her performance (August 29th) was too close the country’s independence day. Earlier, politicians complained that Lavigne’s act was “too sexy,” what with all the bare armpits and hopping.

Madonna Turns 50!!!

Sure, it’s debatable whether Madonna still has that same provocative firepower she had back when she was in her prime. But let’s face it, there still lots of zingggg coming from the old girl. “If it’s against the law, arrest me/if you can handle it, undress me,” she coos while writhing and prancing in the recent video for Hard Candy‘s “Give It 2 Me.” Lots of people probably, you know, actually couldn’t handle it. So hats off, Madge. We love you for the scandals you generate, the great poetry you inspire, and the music you make. We even love you because you deny reality. Happy Birthday!
