Top 20 Video Countdown
It’s that time once again. Another year has flown by, and we’re sitting here in New York City on a frosty winter eve taking stock of the year 2013 as it pertains to music videos. It was not only a year in which stars transformed into superstars (we’re looking at you, Bruno Mars and Miley Cyrus), but one where newcomers like Lorde, Imagine Dragons and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were able to flip the script and dominate their seemingly unstoppable peers. So sit back and enjoy the ride as we count down VH1′s Top 40 Videos Of 2013!
You gotta hand it to The Goo Goo Dolls. If you were to take a time machine back to the year 1992 and predict an alternative rock act that would still be commercially viable 20 years from now, few would’ve selected Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac. Yet here we are in the fall of 2013 and the Goos are still going strong.
Travie McCoy has the best of both worlds, it seems. When he’s in a collaborative mood, he gets to work with his best buddies as part of Gym Class Heroes, but when he’s got a creative itch that he has to scratch, he can pivot and go solo, too. The latter strategy worked very well for him when he teamed up with Bruno Mars on “Billionaire” a few years ago, and now he’s partnered with Jason Mraz on a new track called “Rough Water.”
Recent You Oughta Know artist Passenger is still climbing his way up the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown with “Let Her Go,” a song that has gone to #1 in 13 different countries. His plaintive ditty is currently sitting at #14 on the countdown, but a few months before that track took hold, he spent an afternoon with us here at VH1 headquarters in Times Square.
K.Michelle is currently best known as one of the hilariously volatile stars of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, but if early word about her fierce new LP Rebellious Soul is any indication, she’s on the verge of becoming one of the biggest stars that R&B and soul music has to offer.
Peep the relaxing simplicity brought forth in Jack Johnson‘s new clip for his single “I Got You,” a Top 20 premiere this week!
It’s the moment Shinedown fans have been waiting for. Catch the video for the band’s single, “I’ll Follow You,” a Top 20 Premiere this week.
Watching the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown has been a weekend ritual for many of you for as long as you can remember. For some of our younger fans, the show has been on longer than they’ve even been alive. The show made its VH1 debut way back in 1994 —Melissa Etheridge‘s “Come To My Window” was the first #1!— and this weekend, the program is celebrating the airing of its 900th episode.
Michael Bublé is riding high this week, scoring the #1 spot on the album charts with his latest release, To Be Loved. The Canadian crooner is the special guest on this week’s episode of the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, which airs tomorrow starting at 9am and again on Sunday at 8am, and we caught up with him for a few minutes after he spoke to our own Jim Shearer. We taped the interview at midtown Manhattan’s Pulse Karaoke, so we couldn’t resist asking him what song he would sing with his buddies over a few beers. And, much to our delight, he broke out a few lines from Frank Ocean‘s “Super Rich Kids”!!!
