Promoting his hit single “Without You,” David Guetta appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, joined by Usher, who brough some serious dance moves to the stage. Spinning, u-turning and collar-popping, Usher employed all the signature moves he’s known for, all the while singing over Guetta’s trancetastic beats. With a team of back-up dancers, flashing lights, psychedelic visualizations and shooting flames, the stage was transformed into a Euro-techno party with Usher and Guetta revving up the audience. No wonder this song is shooting towards the top of our VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown!
Top 20 Video Countdown
VH1′s Top 20 Video Countdown is premiering Kid Rock‘s video for his new song, “Care,” featuring Angaleena Presley & T.I this weekend, and it’s just in time to get you into the spirit of giving this holiday season. The video is cast in black and white and features a moody looking Kid Rock perched in front of a brick wall, crooning and playing guitar. Footage of Kid Rock jamming is interspersed with images of the everyman, and the message is clear — there are people suffering. Kid Rock’s lyrics urge us to “care” about the less fortunate, with lines like, “I can’t change the world and make things fair, the least that I can do is care.” It’s an anthem for the holiday season to give the more fortunate some serious perspective, championing hope for empathy and humanity.
If you missed this week’s VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, you’re in luck. The Fray is back with “Heartbeat,” which picks up where their hit “You Found Me” (off their self-titled, Grammy-nominated sophomore effort) left off in 2009. With such a lag time between new albums, the October release of “Heartbeat” as the first single off their forthcoming album, Scars And Stories definitely got pulses The Fray fans racing again.
Now the Denver quartet has collaborated with director Justin Francis (Weezer, Eminem, Black Eyed Peas) to create a video companion to the Billboard Hot 100-cracking track. In the clip, the guys frolic on the beach with some lovely ladies. A bonfire, night swimming and a jam session ensues. For such a moving and sweeping song—the lyrics were inspired by the despair lead singer Isaac Slade witnessed while traveling through Rwanda and South Africa—the visuals are definitely on the lighthearted side, but the ethereal loveliness of the tune definitely shines through.
So, the good news is that we’ve got a new single and a new video. The bad news? The album doesn’t drop until Feb. 7. Way to dangle a carrot, guys!
If VH1 were to have its own zodiac, it would be the year of Kelly Clarkson. Tomorrow (November 17), we’re premiering VH1 Unplugged: Kelly Clarkson on VH1.com at 7 p.m. ET. In December, Kelly returns to VH1 for a performance on VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul. And today, we’re happy to present our first-ever weekly VH1 Tuner Podcast, hosted by Jim Shearer of VH1 Top 20 Countdown fame, with an all-Kelly Clarkson edition. In this episode, Jim chats with Kelly about Stronger, her relationship status, wanting to collaborate with Adele, her video for “Mr. Know It All,” and how she feels about being our very first podcast guest. Enjoy the audio now and look for us soon in iTunes.
Like proud parents, we’re watching You Oughta Know alumna and VH1 Unplugged darling Adele attempt to maintain her chart-topping hot streak with the third single off her multiplatinum 21, “Set Fire To The Rain.” Rumor had it that “Rumor Has It” was going to be the third single, but “Fire” ended up winning out. Already a fan favorite, the mid-tempo power ballad has the potential to complete her hat trick of singles atop the Billboard Hot 100 this year.

Kelly Clarkson‘s video for “Mr. Know It All” is currently sitting atop the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, and on this past weekend’s show, she sat down with our buddy Jim Shearer to not only discuss her new record, but also her current relationship status. Jim mentioned that the guys from Gym Class Heroes were crushing on Kelly, but she quickly shot the matchmaking suggestion down. “I try not to date musicians,” she told our fearless host. “It’s all I’ve dated. Every guy I’ve dated is a musician. Obviously, it’s not working.”
Well, from our vantage point, Single Kelly is sitting pretty. As we mentioned, “Mr. Know It All” is currently blowing up on our Top 20 Countdown AND on the Billboard charts. Additionally, her VH1 Unplugged performance is getting ever closer! VH1 Unplugged: Kelly Clarkson will premiere exclusively on VH1.com at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, and you’ll be able to catch the special on your television the next night, Friday, November 18, at 11 p.m.
We dare you to think of a band that puts on a better show!
Each Friday here on the VH1 Blog, our VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown host Jim Shearer (@jimshearer on Twitter) will be sharing his Shearer?s Spotlight with us. Be sure to tune into the Top 20 Countdown tomorrow morning when it airs on VH1 at 9 a.m. ET/PT.
In conversation–because of my profession–people usually ask me if I’ve seen any good shows lately. Without hesitation, I tell them that they must see the Foo Fighters, who are currently putting on a rock show for the ages (and that’s not me speaking in hyperbole).
I’ve seen two performances from their current tour, and I can tell you for a fact that no other band is putting on a better show than the Foo Fighters right now.??You need more reasons to see them? Good, here goes:
1.) Grohl on Drums
Cage The Elephant are currently opening up for the Foo Fighters, and after their drummer Jared Champion’s appendix burst, Dave Grohl said he’d fill in on drums so the band wouldn’t have to drop off the bill.?As you know, Dave Grohl has played drums before, but whenever he steps behind a kit, its met with the same astonishment as if he’s walking on water. It’s not that miraculous, but it is still pretty freakin’ cool (especially since Cage The Elephant’s music is inspired by the decade in which Dave Grohl was a full-time drummer)!
Fitz And The Tantrums are putting in WORK to get the word out about their fantastic debut LP, Picking Up The Pieces. Since being named our You Oughta Know artist back in April, the funky soul revivalists have been touring relentlessly, earning kudos from industry insiders like Bob Lefsetz and winning scads of new fans at festivals like Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. We have no idea when they found themselves with enough time to shoot another music video, but lo and behold, we just got our mitts on the brand new “Don’t Gotta Work It Out” video.
The video begins with a curious homage to Pulp Fiction (or maybe Repo Man?), as lead singer Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick stumbles onto a briefcase of indeterminate origins and opens it up, resulting in him being bathed in golden light. He then proceeds to walk/jog through a series of urban alleyways in search of vocalist Noelle Scaggs and the rest of the Tantrums, while lens flares invade the frame at a clip that would make even J.J. Abrams blush. Along the way, a slew of feathers begin floating down through the atmosphere, which makes us think that either Sully Sullenberg was in the vicinity exacting more revenge on the geese population or there was an explosion at a nearby down pillow factory. Just when we think we might have an idea where this video might be going, Fitz falls to his knees in an alleyway and gets drenched by a raincloud that only has eyes for him.
So, what does it all mean? Well, even after watching it a few times, we’d be hard pressed to explain the video treatment, but we are certain of one thing: This song is totally boss.
