Jordin Sparks WERKED that VH1 Divas stage during her cover of “I’m Every Woman” for the Whitney Houston tribute. But Whitney’s not the only singer the American Idol winner has been covering lately. Backstage, Jordin revealed her Top 40 radio obsessions including Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” But with plans to drop a single sometime early 2013, Jordin is most excited to sing along to her own songs. “A lot of [the music] is different from what people have heard from me or would expect,” she said. We’re intrigued, Jordin. Way to switch it up in the new year!
Speaking of New Year’s, Jordin is sure to be lip-locking with pop-star boyfriend Jason Derulo at midnight. Ever the dutiful boo, the other half of Jadin showed up at Divas to support his woman. I’m sure Jordin appreciates the love but the American Idol winner couldn’t help poking fun at Jason’s signature singing name check. Watch her adorable impersonation below! Read more…
Kelly Clarkson found love in a hopeFUL place. Before Sunday’s VH1 DIVAS rehearsal, the singer excitedly tweeted her engagement to Brandon Blackstock. Later in the evening, she delivered a lively performance of “Catch My Breath” from her recent album, Greatest Hits: Chapter One. But before any of the DIVAS hit the stage, celebrities congratulated Clarkson on her engagement while working the red carpet.
While some celebrities kept their congratulatory words brief, others offered funny advice. Our favorite is Jordin Sparks‘ reaction when asked to give the couple some marital advice. Check out the best quotes from VH1’s video of celebrities congratulating the newly engaged singer. Read more…
If you didn’t know who Iggy Azalea was before, you do now after the Aussie MC hit the VH1 Divas stage with Natasha Bedingfield and Bootsy Collins in that gem and fringe bustier for a brilliant cover of “Groove Is In The Heart.” Besides her fire spitting skills, T.I.’s Grand Hustle rookie’s drop-dead gorgeous form was on full display. How does Iggy stay looking so fresh while sweating and grinding on stage? Well, because she’s a sweetheart (and probably pitied my own ragged appearance) the blonde beauty shared some of her makeup secrets. It may not get you a modeling contract like Iggy, but you can at least resemble a diva in under three minutes.
The final result.
Can’t get enough of Iggy’s look? Check out head-to-toe photos of the outfit Iggy was rocking during her down time at Divas rehearsals below and try your best to keep up with “Boss Lady’s” style. Read more…
We’ve already shared some of our favorite behind the scenes moments, a few of our favorite GIF-ed moments and a whole slew of our favorite musical moments from last nights spectacular VH1 DIVAS show, and we’re still not through with our gushing because we just thought everyone on the bill — Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Metric, Keri Hilson, Pitbull, Ciara, Bootsy Collins, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Rowland and more! — totally killed it. And so here we are, reliving our favorite moments last night through photos. Our top twenty moments, in no particular order — because, really, it would be cruel to make us chose between them — look something like this:
1. Kelly that brand new precious stone of hers! Brandon Blackstock sure is a lucky guy.
…and she showed of her powerful and Idol-winning pipes. We are so glad she didn’t settle with a career as a backup singer.
2. Pitbull didn’t “Stop The Party” until all his dancers were flat-out on the ground.
3. Natasha Bedingfield, Bootsy Collins and Iggy Azalea’s “Grove Is In The Heart” was hands down the evening’s most funky moment. And look how cute these three looked together!
How much fun was VH1 DIVAS last night? While we were blown away by performances from the likes of Miley Cyrus (“Rebel Yell”), Ciara (“Billie Jean”/”Got Me Good”) and host Adam Lambert (“Ray Of Light”, “Let’s Dance”), there was just as much fun happening off-stage in our special Old Navy GIF Booth. Presenters NeNe Leakes and Ellie Kemper, Big Morning Buzz Live host Carrie Keagan, performer Paloma Faith and many more celebs stopped by to say hello, so be sure and check out the funny faces they made by heading over to our Old Navy GIF Booth Flipbook now!
What an amazing evening! The 2012 edition of VH1 DIVAS was chock full of unforgettable moments, ones that you can fortunately watch over-and-over again thanks to the miracle of streaming video. However, for all the show-stopping performances that you saw on VH1 tonight during the broadcast, there were a plethora of precious moments you weren’t privy to that happened backstage and off-camera. To that end, we had some VH1 insiders strategically placed all around the Shrine Auditorium tonight keeping their eyes, ears and camera lenses open all night long for those special moments that our TV cameras weren’t able to capture. And, seeing that it’s the holidays and all, the giving spirit is coursing through our veins and we thought we’d share some of the highlights with you.
So now, without further ado, here are the Top 16 Things That You Didn’t See On TV During VH1 DIVAS:
1. American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert ran out to greet the original Idol, Kelly Clarkson, and the two shared a warm hug just minutes before show time backstage. Adam did a little turn showing off his duds.
2. Speaking of the newly engaged Kelly Clarkson, she showed off her sparkly yellow canary diamond ring to a friend a few moments before she performed “Catch My Breath.” We overheard her saying “He did so good, didn’t he?” and “I was freaking out when he went down on one knee and all.” A clearly emotional Kelly also admitted on her way off-stage that “I can’t believe I almost totally cried on television!”
All hail Whitney Houston! The world lost a huge talent last February when The Voice passed away unexpectedly in her hotel room in Los Angeles. While Whitney was reigned supreme as the queen of ballads, she just as much ruled dance songs. VH1 DIVAS honored the incomparable legend with a show-stopping performance by Jordin Sparks, Ledisi and Melanie Fiona. Their make-you-want-to-dance tribute had the audience on their feet clapping along. As one of the greatest vocalist to touch a microphone, Whitney is not an easy diva to cover, because if you can’t sing her notes right, why bother? Thankfully, Jordin, Ledisi and Melanie all have the chops to belt out the range of notes Whitney mastered. And they worked the stage while doing it. Read more…
Adam Lambert took a break from his VH1 DIVAS hosting duties to channel his inner Queen of Pop for smashing performance of Madonna‘s “Ray of Light.” Last week, he told us that he was “really excited” about performing a Madge song because he’s a “proud Madonna fan.” She is “somebody that knew how to put on a number,” he raved, and — oh boy! — did he show that he can do just that tonight. Lambert performed the 1998 hit in a graphic tunic get-up that would certainly make Madonna proud (seriously, we could not have predicted anything so wild as this robe, and will definitely be doing some decrypting in the coming days!), and he managed to capture all the song’s emotions just right. Between this, his best Bowie and that Donna Summer, he might need an entire VH1 DIVAS show to himself next year!

Madonna fans, did he do alright? Lambert fans, were you prepared for that diva-tastic robe? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter using the hashtag #VH1DIVAS.
The music world lost one of its most soulful voices this May when Donna Summer unexpectedly passed away at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. Because you can’t think about Donna Summer without also thinking about dancing to one of her many classic songs, it was of utmost importance that this year’s VH1 DIVAS program paid tribute to the recent Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee and artist who racked up 20 Billboard Top 40 hits over the course of her illustrious career.
Paying tribute to the late, great Donna Summer tonight were VH1 DIVAS 2012 host Adam Lambert, the always amazing Kelly Rowland, and the divine Keri Hilson. Their medley of “I Feel Love,” “Bad Girls,” “She Works Hard For The Money,” (Hilson solo) “Love To Love You Baby,” (Rowland solo) “Hot Stuff,” (Lambert solo) and “Last Dance” was an appropriately energetic tribute to the woman whose disco-infused sounds dominated the charts in the late 70s and early 80s. Donna Summer will always be missed, and while we’re sad that the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame didn’t get around to inducting this legendary performer until after she passed away, we’re very much proud to have honored her this evening and look forward to her RRHOF induction in the spring of 2013.
Yesterday afternoon, we presented to you with 5 Reasons Why Miley Cyrus Was Born To Cover Billy Idol. At only 20 years old, Miley Cyrus was not even born when the sneertastic Billy Idol first released “Rebel Yell” in 1983, but it’s safe to say that after tonight’s explosive performance on VH1 DIVAS, the song belongs to her now! (At least for tonight, that is…)
Miley came out wearing an ensemble clearly inspired by the British punk/pop legend: Black leather jacket and pants, each adorned with the metal studs that Idol was rarely seen without. It goes without saying that Cyrus showed off way more midriff than Billy ever did, but hey, SHE’S JUST BEING MILEY! As she wrapped her pyro-laden performance, she said “That was for you, Lila,” paying tribute to her puppy that sadly died earlier this week. In a moment you didn’t see on TV, she came off the stage with her fists pumped screaming “YEAH BITCHES!!!”
So, Smilers, what did you think of Miley’s performance tonight? Be sure to let us know in the comments, or you can always tweet your love for Milers on Twitter using the hashtag #VH1DIVAS.
