One of the most dynamic new rock bands on the face of the Earth is HAIM, who just so happens to also be VH1′s current You Oughta Know artist. The band is made up of three sisters—Alana (bass + vox), Danielle (lead vox + guitar), and Este (keys + guitar + vox)—who have been making music together over their entire lives. Being sisters and bandmates means that the three members of HAIM spend a ton of time together, which is why we decided to play a round of Sibling Superlatives with them when they popped by VH1 headquarters recently. In this installment, we’ll find out which member of HAIM is the biggest flirt, who’s the most athletic, and which one has the most talent. Enjoy!
You Oughta Know
HAIM is VH1′s You Oughta Know artist for the month of October, and the trio of Californian sisters will also be part of the lineup of the first ever You Oughta Know In Concert special that airs on VH1 next month. We got to spend some QT with Este, Danielle and Alana last month when they dropped by VH1 headquarters for a round of Sibling Superlatives, in which we learned which which of the Haim sisters is least likely to put up with bullsh*t, who’s the most likely to be up until 4am, and who is the most competitive of the bunch. (Hint: One of them “left their soul on that soccer field” … but WHO?!?)
After all that twerking, sledgehammer licking and naked wrecking ball riding, Miley Cyrus‘ Bangerz finally arrived in stores and made its presence felt. But could it touch Cyrus’ previous efforts? We’re looking at that and plenty of other new debuts in this week’s #SoundScanner.
Earlier this week, we got to know the three sisters that make up HAIM—Este, Alana, and Danielle—during the latest installment of Sibling Superlatives. The band is VH1′s latest You Oughta Know artist, and is scheduled to play the inaugural You Oughta Know In Concert special that will air on VH1 on November 21 at 10PM/9C. Before that, though, let’s get to know these ladies a little bit better, shall we?
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are one of the most dynamic live acts that you’ll EVER see perform, which is just one of the many reasons that they were selected to be one of VH1′s You Oughta Know artists back in 2011. It’s been a minute since their last album release, but in January of 2014, they’ll be back with their new LP, Give The People What They Want. The album’s completion was delayed by a few months to allow lead singer Sharon Jones time to deal with a recent cancer diagnosis, but her recovery efforts are going amazingly enough that the band just released a new video for “Retreat” (which you can watch above) AND an upcoming concert.
In the entire history of the You Oughta Know franchise, Delta Rae have emerged as one of our favorite alums. Their debut LP, Carry The Fire, dropped in June of 2012 and we’re still spinning it on the reg. Their chief strength as a group is their versatility, as evidenced by their brand new video for “If I Loved You,” which showcases the powerhouse vocals of Elizabeth Hopkins.
HAIM is VH1′s You Oughta Know artist for the month of October, and the promising new act just released their debut LP, Days Are Gone (which debuted at #6 on last week’s album charts). If you’re wondering how they chose their band name, well, Haim is also the last name of the three sisters who make up the group: Este, Danielle and Alana. In order to help get to know these hilarious ladies, we asked them to play a little game of Sibling Superlatives with us.
Okay, so there’s sort of a cliché that women can’t resist a guy with a guitar, but when a gorgeous woman thrashes through a guitar solo, it’s twenty times hotter. Don’t believe us? Then check out our rankings of the top 20 hottest female guitarists in music today.
HAIM is the latest addition to VH1′s You Oughta Know family, and has signed on to be part of the first ever You Oughta Know In Concert special that’s airing on VH1 on November 21 at 9PM/8C. The three Haim sisters just released their debut LP, Days Are Gone, which will debut in the Top 10 this week when final numbers are released, and have gone from complete unknowns to selling out New York City’s Webster Hall in less than a year.
VH1′s September You Oughta Know artist Lorde visited VH1′s Big Morning Buzz Live today to perform her smash hit “Royals.” The Kiwi teen looked chic and simple in an adorable black turtleneck and skirt ensemble and repeatedly played with her most famous asset: her glorious locks.
