Passenger All The Little Lights Track-By-Track

The VH1 You Oughta Know family is proud to welcome the British troubadour Passenger (aka Mike Rosenberg) into the mix. His song “Let Her Go,” one of a dozen tracks that make up the All The Little Lights LP, has already gone to #1 in sixteen (!) countries, including Australia, Ireland and Sweden, and is poised to become a major hit here Stateside, too. Passenger’s body of work is already drawing comparisons to fellow UK-based singer-songwriters like Ed Sheeran and James Blunt, and we has the privilege of sitting down with him a few weeks ago to discuss the stories behind each of the songs on All The Little Lights as part of our ongoing series, Track-By-Track.

EXCLUSIVE: The Civil Wars Debut Their New Video For “Same Old, Same Old”

It’s been nearly eight months since The Civil Wars announced their “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition” and, quite frankly, we’re still gutted by the news. Even though Joy Williams and John Paul White are no longer on speaking terms, there is a small silver lining for fans of the Grammy-winning duo: August 6 will see the release of The Civil Wars, the follow-up to the duo’s much beloved 2011 debut. VH1 and CMT are excited to exclusively premiere the first video from this project, which is for the album’s single, “Same Old, Same Old.”

Stop/Watch: Sara Bareilles, “Brave”

Sara Bareilles is set to drop her highly anticipated fourth studio album, The Blessed Unrest, tomorrow. The VH1 You Oughta Know alum has been garnering near universal praise for her latest single, “Brave,” thanks in large part to its empowering message of equality. So when she dropped by VH1 headquarters recently, we asked if she would adapt the song so it could be a part of our new feature, Stop/Watch, which sees artists condensing one of their songs to fit a strict :60 second timeframe. Watch our video above to see if she was able to pull it off!

Come back to VH1 Tuner all week long to see more from Sara Bareilles, including exclusive track-by-track commentary on all of the songs her new album! Remember, The Blessed Unrest will be available everywhere tomorrow, July 16.

A 4-Year-Old Bruno Mars Was Once Interviewed By Pauly Shore

First things first: Don’t ask us why we follow Pauly Shore on Twitter. It’s not something we’re proud of, it’s just something that happened along the way. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get on with the story. Last night, Pauly sent out a tweet that piqued our interest and made our decision to follow him look prescient. The tweet? “Have you seen my interview with 4 year old Bruno Mars, bro?”

Serena Ryder Shows Off Her British, Pirate + President Obama Impersonations

serena_ryder_accents_lead

Will the real Serena Ryder please stand up? We thought we knew everything You Oughta Know about our June artist of the month, but the ”Stompa” songbird still has some tricks up her sleeve. And after the Juno-winning, singer-songwriter showed off a hidden talent, we’re not even entirely sure that Serena’s Canadian.

Turns out Serena is a bit of a mimic and often has fun impersonating friends and celebs alike. SNL cameo, anyone? So we tested her skills in a pressure challenge that Ryder accepted full on. From Jamaican to Pirate (aye, why not), Serena dropped little known facts about herself in a range of accents with hilarious results. She even added a new one to her repertoire. Holler at your girl if you need a voice dub, POTUS!

Check them all out in the clip above and don’t forget to return for more exclusive interviews, photos and performances from Serena Ryder during her last week as June’s You Oughta Know star.
