Will.I.Am Is Collaborating With Britney Spears, Mick Jagger… And NASA’s Mars Rover!

by (@zaragolden)

Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am released the track list for his forthcoming and very au courant album, #willpower. Over the years, will.i.am has worked in some capacity with seemingly everyone, and it looks like he’s cashing in all his favors for this fourth solo album. A newly released track list for this next effort is loaded heavy musical collaborations, all of the following making some sort of appearance: Britney Spears, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Chris Brown, David Guetta, Eva Simons, Redfoo and Nicole Scherzinger. And were that not enough, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger and Cheryl Cole, too, will be included on the album’s deluxe edition.

The collaboration doesn’t end there, though, and this next one is truly for the history books: NASA announced today that they have teamed up with will.i.am to debut the album’s next single from the surface of Mars. “Reach for the Stars” will be transmitted to Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, tomorrow at 1 PM PT as part of a special educational event that will promote science education by showing-off NASA’s Curiosity rover and its intergalactic findings — this new song apparently. “My song is finally going to be beamed back to earth from MARS,” tweeted will.i.am yesterday, excitedly because finally. Jennifer Lopez Emotionally Covers Selena’s “No Me Queda Mas”

by

As kids we almost believed Jennifer Lopez was actually Selena Quintanilla-Perez because she played the slain Tejano singer so well in the 1997 film Selena. To pay tribute to the late singer, J.Lo covered Selena’s “No Me Queda Mas” during her Dallas tour stop. In her flowing red dress J.Lo crooned the words, “no me queda mas” to screaming fans who all sung along. A seemingly emotion J.Lo pushed her vocals to a high range to thunderous applauds from the crowd. We can’t believe its been 15 years since the debut of the film. And J.Lo’s still rocking out packed shows not looking a day over 25. Read more…

by (@zaragolden)

And so Bracket Madness begins again, this time pitting your favorite artists from the last decade against each other because at competition’s end there can be but one VH1 The Greatest Artist of the 00s! First up, we have *NSYNC versus Backstreet Boys, the great boy band battle. The turn of the millennium heralded a golden age of pop, and both *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys arrived on the scene already prime boy band specimens, complete with Mickey Mouse Club alums, glossy singles, and sweet choreographed dance moves. They weren’t the same, though, and the masses were quickly divided — each with their preferred band, each with their favorite boy. And now there can only be one. Who should it be? Read more…

BRACKET MADNESS: Vote For The Greatest Artist Of The ’00s!

by (@zaragolden)

Earlier this month, after a tough three rounds of voting, we crowned Mariah Carey as The Greatest Artist Of The 90s. That settled, we are looking forward to the near past: the ’00s. The new millennium brought a whole new slew of greats, as rock and rap and otherwise broke into the Top 40 and anyone at No. 1 seemed possible. Who’s next in line for the crown?

Round One faces off the best of the boy bands *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys; leading ladies Beyoncé and Britney Spears; kings of the rap game Eminem and Jay-Z; and rockers Nickelback and Linkin Park. Eight great Aught acts to be sure, but only one can be The VH1 Greatest Artist of the 00s. Did Justin Timberlake drive you “Crazy” or did Nick Carter have it “Goin’ On”? Were you “Dangerously In Love” With Bey or a “Slave 4″ Brit? Were your 00s “99 Problems” or about cleaning out your “Closet”? Were you about Chad Kroegers arena rocking or Mike Shinoda’s rap-rock?

Usher And Chanel Iman Take A “Dive” In New Video

by (@zaragolden)

Usher doesn’t need a lifesaver, because he and Victoria’s Secret model Chanel Iman aren’t afraid to get wet together in this sepia-toned new video for “Dive.” The Looking 4 Myself ballad leaves little to the imagination — “It’s raining inside your bed, no parts are dry/ Loving makes you so wet, your legs and thighs,” “I’ll be inside when the tides are rolling, baby” etc. — and so it’s no surprise that the video goes all in on Usher’s Titanic fantasy. Out to sea, things go from steamy to soaked pretty quickly as the two get down to business on their luxury yacht. And nobody seems to mind when they are eventually submerged — Ursher Baby knows going deeper ain’t going to kill him. Read more…

Bruce! Beatle! Graceland! The Hard Rock Calling 2012 Premiere Doesn’t Disappoint

by (@JordanRuntagh)

If you heard a muffled boom tonight around 9 PM, that was just the sound of our minds being blown while watching the U.S. television premiere of the 2012 Hard Rock Calling music festival. The 2-hour special was simulcast on both Palladia and VH1, and it brought out all of the hard hitters like Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Soundgarden, Lady Antebellum and more! Never has the phrase “all killer no filler” been more appropriate, and from the moment Bruce kicked things off with an slow-burning hymnal version of “Thunder Road” we knew we were in for something special.

Now full disclosure, we were actually there on the front lines to see HRC live in London last month, but seeing it in full HD on Palladia was a totally different animal all together. When we watched former VH1 You Oughta Know artist Christina Perri perform “Jar of Hearts” and “Arms” in front of 60 thousand people, it felt just as close and intimate as when we first saw her perform in our office! It’s the magic of technology, folks.

Lady Antebellum and the Punch Brothers turned the iconic London park into a down home Nashville ho-down, while John Fogerty burnt the place down with his serious guitar shredding that left dudes half his age in the dust. Tom Morello stepped out from Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave to deliver some protest folk music aimed right at the heart of cooperate America with the Woody Guthrie song “Ease My Revolutionary Mind.” Soundgarden and Iggy & The Stooges went with the more punk tactic of assaulting the audience with bone-crushing volume.

Owl City Shows Us A “Good Time” On Big Morning Buzz Live

by (@zaragolden)

Owl City only knew about as much about Carly Rae Jepsen as you probably did when he first hooked up with her for his Song Of The Summer bid, “Good Time.” Introduced by their managers, they recorded the song in separate cities and talked mostly over the internet until they finally met in real life for to shoot the video. Adam Young told Carrie Keagen this morning on VH1′s Good Morning Buzz that “it was cool,” but admitted that their IRL meeting was also “slightly creepy.” “After studying her voice, I knew how she enunciates words and says s‘s and stuff,” he laughed. “It was creepy, I felt like I knew her, and she didn’t know I knew her, but it was good.”

Afterwards, he performed a mostly acoustic (and Carly Rae-less) cover of “Good Time.” It was down-tempo and less effervescent than the original, sounding more like the warm memory of a good time than a party starter, and it was the perfect late-August rework of a Song of the Summer contender. Check it out above!

Nicki Minaj Shows Off Her Barbie House In “I Am Your Leader” Video

by (@zaragolden)

Ah, lucky day, Barbz, as Nicki Minaj is sending us into the weekend with not just one, but two eye-popping videos! This Colin Tilley directed clip for “I Am Your Leader” finds Nicki showing off her home sweet hyper-cartoonish home, fit only for a colorful rapper like she.

“I Am Your Leader” is cut from the hard-going opening salvo of Roman Reloaded wherein Nicki unhinges and raps, something she didn’t really get a chance to do on the album’s poppier first few singles. In the video, she raps in a room that’s slime green and pink and a little bit twisted — like Pee Wee’s Playhouse or a Dave La Chapelle set — peeks through crooked windows, and then raps some more from a bubble bath, her legs hung over the edge to show off her sparkly knee-high boots. Next up, Rick Ross serves his verse from the dinning room, siting like Rick Ross does, shirtless at the head of a never-ending gold gilded table. And last comes Cam, in a stairwell hung with portraits of the three, wearing a button-up that might be considered subdued for the pink mink rocking rapper were it not throbbing colors. The home is wacky, sure, but it’s Nicki, and like she says: “If you’re not a believer, suck a big d***.” Read more…

B.O.B. And Nicki Minaj Are Off Their Rockers In “Out Of My Mind”

by

Straight jackets and padded rooms, oh my. B.O.B.‘s crazy act in “Out Of My Mind” is surprisingly naturally great. But if any rapper can play loony, and do it well, it’s Nicki Minaj. B.O.B. is trapped in a prison-like insane asylum that he desperately wants to escape. In the Benny Boom directed video he’s forced to have a Psych evaluation with Dr. Minaj after fighting from being restrained. Dr. Minaj is slightly nutty herself, so there encounter isn’t an ordinary patient/client visit. Minaj strips out of her white doctor’s coat casting no shadow of a doubt that she’s just as cookoo as him. The parole board (is this prison or an insane asylum? I’m just sayin’) hearing doesn’t go too well. The rest is, uh, madness. Any artist that does “crazy” after B.O.B. and Nicki have a hard act to follow. Everything about this video was bananas!
