Billie Joe Armstrong Joins The Mix On The Voice

by (@zaragolden)

The competition show talent shuffle continues today, with word that Billie Joe Armstrong has signed on to The Voice as a mentor on Christina Aguilera‘s team. The Grammy winning Green Day frontman explained in a statement accompanying the announcement that he chose The Voice because it is “not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.” Which is to say that it is, by his figuring, as close to punk as these sorts of shows come. Aguilera’s not exactly Kathleen Hanna or even Haley Williams, but that’s not really been Armstrong’s thing for a while now, and he assures that the two are having fun together. And if this means more “Longview” on the tube, well, we’ll go ahead and look the other way. Read more…

Chelsea ‘Lately’ Sits On Rick Ross, Considers Sex With Him

by

Leave it to Chelsea Handler to sit on Rick Ross‘ lap and declare, “I love big black men.” Rick Ross was welcomed with an unusual greeting–a too tight for TV hug and lap saddle– when he stopped by the Chelsea Lately show to promote Tuesday’s release God Forgives, I Don’t, which leaked Wednesday night. “Last time I saw you I was sitting on you too, remember?” she asks. “At the VMAs I got to ride him on a scooter.” Since she’d already delved in with a reference to riding him, Ricky Rosay reminds her that she promised him sex. Where’s The Love? Madonna Gets Booed And Called A “Salope” In Paris

by

Madonna Gets Booed

Madonna has no effs left to give. The controversial MDNA tour had its fair share of controversies with nip slips, tears and the superimposed swastika on French right-wing politician Marine Le Pen. As if that wasn’t enough drama for Madge, she was recently booed after her club gig performance at Olympia in Paris. Fans were not pleased when Madonna’s set ended after 45 minutes. Loud boos filled the room quickly, which were followed by water bottles thrown onto the stage. To really show their disappointment the attendees united with chants of “salope,” the French word for slut. The show was livestreamed on YouTube for all of the world to see, but none of the fans’ pleas were enough to get the Queen of Pop to return for an encore. Madonna marches to the beat of her own stilettos. Read more…

Covers to Catch: Lana Del Rey Does Nirvana, Kelly Clarkson Does Katy Perry

by (@zaragolden)

It’s Friday, and the internet has so kindly graced us with two worthy covers to drive us into the weekend:

Last night in Sydney, Lana Del Rey gave Nirvana‘s “Heart Shaped Box” a stormy and orchestral cover. Nirvana has come to be considered sacred territory, just ask Miley Cyrus, who took serious flack for her “Smells Like Teen Spirit” cover, but Lana’s haunting voice makes for an interesting tribute. Her obsession with fame is not without understanding of Kurt Cobain’s obsession with escaping fame, and her belts of “Hey, wait, I’ve got a new complaint” feel almost as tortured as Kurt’s devastating originals, and she somehow managed to make the brutal “I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black” line sound feminine and delicate. This was a risk, but it seemed to work.

Kelly Clarkson‘s cover of Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” was far less of a stretch, and great nonetheless. Read more…

Matchbox Twenty Risk Third-Degree Burns For That “She’s So Mean” Girl

by (@zaragolden)

Though Rob Thomas and Paul Doucette have been doing this for years now, it’s still not easy. VH1 News caught up with the boys from Matchbox 20 on the set of the video for the first single off of their fourth studio album, North, and Thomas confessed that he still “feels silly” sometimes. “She’s So Mean” is the classic pop-song ode to a guilty-pleasure girl, the kind who invites you to the club than leaves with her friends, who “makes you so blind but you don’t mind.” Like “a drug,” Thomas says. “Everybody’s been in that relationship.”

Not everybody, though, would risk actual third-degree burns for it, like the guys did for their fiery new video. “Psh-sha, forget that, we’re just going to set him right on fire,” Thomas joked of their fire marshal mandated fire retardant gear. “I’m just going to take a Bic to his leg and light him up.” They sure don’t call them matchbox for nothing!

Watch the full interview above, and check out the racy “She’s So Mean” lyric video below. North is out September 4th. Read more…

P!nk’s Revenge In “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” Is How You Successfully Breakup With Someone

by

Always expect the unexpected from P!nk. Last night MTV debuted the video to the Song Of The Summer breakup anthem “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” from P!nk’s forthcoming album The Truth About Love (speaking of which, make sure to vote for P!nk over at sots.vh1.com). Shot in black and white by director Dave Meyers, P!nk is giving us pin-up Marilyn Monroe! All is well at the quiet picnic until her love interest answers his phone in the middle of their romantic rendezvous. It doesn’t take long for a very feisty P!nk to toss a glass of red wine in his face before walking off. The ballroom dance floor is the beginning of her plan to seek revenge. Read more…

Tuned In: No Doubt Shake Up Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

by (@zaragolden)

Steady on the comeback, No Doubt returned to late night last night with a stop on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, and not that he ever seems otherwise, but Jimmy seemed extra excited to have them. The band’s return has so far been amazing in that they haven’t seemed to age a bit — their energy is still high and they miraculously all look exactly as they did the last time they had new music to promote ten years ago. Last night’s performance of “Settle Down” was more of the same — Gwen’s 90’s mall-swag was especially turned-up, her studded harem pants tucked into her patent leather Docs — except for the fact that they all wore blazers, because they are adults now. They aren’t buttoned-up, though, and everyone looked and sounded great as they spun around the stage. Comebacks are never easy and not often successful, but it seems evident that No Doubt’s return was a great idea. We can’t wait to hear what else they’ve got when Push And Shove drops out on September 25th.

Last Lap: Green Day Wrote A Song About Amy Winehouse

by (@zaragolden)

GREEN DAY PAY MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO AMY WINEHOUSE IN NEW SONG
The track will close their upcoming album ¡Dos! And appropriately so, according to Billie Joe Armstrong, who feels connected to the fallen star though they never met. “It’s interesting because if you think about ¡Dos!, it’s a party record, and so at the end of it ‘Amy’ kind of comes across as the consequences of the party,” he says. Intriguing! [NME] Read more…

Madonna Is Now Defending Her Use Of Nazi Imagery On MDNA Tour

by (@zaragolden)

Madonna is the queen of scandal, to be sure, but nipples and tears past pale in comparison to this latest MDNA tour controversy. Despite the criticism and legal threats drawn, Madonna refuses to remove the swastikas — including one superimposed onto French right-wing politician Marine Le Pen (as seen at 1:05) — or Hitler imagery from the video projection that accompanies her “Nobody Knows Me” tour performance. Rather, she’s defending the offending footage. As Madge explained in an interview with Brazil’s Fantastico, the American Life track is about “how much we judge people before knowing them,” and she therefore feels that the inclusion of controversial imagery fits her message about “the intolerance that we human beings have for one another.” “Music should be about ideas, right? Ideas inspire music, right?” she said. That’s a slippery slope of logic. Do you think she’s has taken it too far this time?

Rick Ross’ Health Scare Inspired “Diced Pineapples” Featuring Drake And Wale, But It’s Not About The Fruit

by

Rick Ross' album leaks

No artist is exempt from the sometimes beastly Internet where leaked albums are downloaded frequently. Yesterday Rick Ross‘ highly anticipated God Forgives I Don’t leaked six days early, but Ross was very chill about the leak. Hey, why be mad when you’re a boss? After realizing fans were already jamming to his fifth album he tweeted, “#GFID out there so vibe to it..enjoy it..buy it Tuesday!!!” Ross may be busy cultivating his Maybach Music Group squad, but for his own project he enlisted a few heavy hitting MMG outsiders like Jay-Z, Andre 300 and Dr. Dre. But it’s “Diced Pineapples” featuring Wale and Drake that caught our attention. Read more…
