VH1 will be at Austin City Limits music festival this weekend interviewing some of your favorite bands — and we’re relying on you to help us capture the best moments of the three-day fest — from crowd-surfing singers to mud fights in the crowd.
If you’re lucky enough to be at ACL this year, simply follow @VH1 on Twitter, tweet a photo using #ACLtop20, and you’ll be entered to win a trip on VH1′s Best Cruise Ever, which features non-stop performances by Train, Lifehouse, Colbie Caillat, The Script and more than a dozen others.
And don’t forget to check back on Monday to see The Top 20 Greatest Moments of Austin City Limits.
One of the most underrated moments of the 2010 Video Music Awards was Linkin Park’s dazzling performance of “The Catalyst” in front of the famed Griffith Observatory. Even those who had questioned whether there was still a place for n? metal in today’s AutoTuned musical landscape were won over by the band’s heavy and still formidable sound. The success of “The Catalyst” helped the band’s latest LP, A Thousand Suns, debut at #1 on the Billboard charts, but now it’s time for the guys to release their second single. Enter “Waiting For The End,” which sees the band trying a ballad out for size. The full video won’t be debuting until Friday, but until then, enjoy this 30-second teaser clip.
Above is the first entry in what will be a weekly highlight reel of entries for Dance Cam Slam, VH1′s upcoming dance show (premiering Tuesday, October 26 at 10/9c). As previously reported, Dance Cam Slam is an all new VH1 original TV series where individual dancers and groups compete live via their home web cam for a chance to win a weekly prize of $5,000. The way to get on the show is simple: dance in front of your webcam and then upload your video to the Dance Cam Slam casting site. We’ll also be going through the entries to fill our weekly highlights reels. As you can see, foolishness is encouraged. Come on everybody, all together now: do the viral!

We just introduced you to our newest VH1 “You Oughta Know” artist, Christina Perri, but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about our last one, Bruno Mars! His new album, Doo-Wop & Hooligans, just dropped today, and his single “Just The Way You Are” is currently sitting atop the Billboard 100 (it’s #6 on our Top 20 Video Countdown). We just caught up with Bruno and were able to corral him long enough to ask him 5 Questions, a session in which he reveals his desires to collaborate with Prince AND his addiction to Kriss Kross videos. Enjoy!
It’s not everyday that an unknown and unsigned musician is on the receiving end of a big break from a multi-billion dollar television network, you know, but that’s exactly what happened to VH1′s latest You Oughta Know artist, Christina Perri. Earlier this summer, Perri’s powerful ballad “Jar Of Hearts” was used to score a moving dance routine on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, which led thousands of viewers to seek out the song in the iTunes store. Realizing that they had struck a chord with their viewers, the producers of the show invited Perri to perform the haunting, piano-driven ballad live on the show a few weeks later and, as they say, a star was born.
With that in mind, we here at VH1 are very excited to introduce Christina Perri as our latest You Oughta Know artist, a club that includes the likes of Amy Winehouse, Kings of Leon and Bruno Mars. She’s currently hard at work on her first album for Atlantic Records, the details of which are still being kept under wraps. Of course, we’ll keep you up-to-date on its progress and will be sure to let you know as soon as we hear about its release date. But for now, check out her video above and, surely, on our weekly Top 20 Video Countdown. Be sure to let us know what you think!
We believe it was Billy Shakespeare who once said “Parting from Travie McCoy is such sweet sorrow.” Yes, that’s right, check your calendar, it’s October 1! As we wave buh bye to our September Posted Artist of the Month, Travie McCoy, we could not be any more psyched to say hello to 30 Seconds To Mars, who’ll be spending the rest of the month with us! Or, more accurately, with YOU.
Jared Leto and the guys are coming off one of their biggest months ever, a month that saw them play in front of tens of thousands of adoring fans and capture a Video Music Award for Best Rock Video for “Kings And Queens.” And as they continue to tour in support of their 2009 LP This Is War during the month of October, they’ll be giving us an inside look at their lives exclusively at posted.vh1.com.
As we have done in past months, we encourage you to leave any questions you have for the band in the comments section below and we’ll be sure that they see them. So go ahead, fire away and enjoy spending October with 30 Seconds To Mars.
One of the hardest working women in showbiz will work a little harder come November 4, when Fantasia kicks off her first headlining tour in Richmond, Virginia. Over the course of 30 shows, the Fantasia for Real star will play all over the U.S., landing in St. Louis, Missouri for her tour’s final concert on January 1, 2011. Hopefully, Fantasia’s moves onstage will be as exciting as they are on screen:
The first round of pre-sale tickets (for subscribers of Fantasia’s newsletter) go on sale tomorrow (Thursday, September 30) at 10 am ET. The sale opens up to the general public the day after.
Fantasia’s full itinerary is below…
Shakira, Shakira! On Monday, we gave you a 30-second glimpse of Shakira’s latest hip-shaking anthem “Loca,” but now we’ve got the whole enchilada for you. There isn’t much in the way of plot, but considering the manner in which Shakira is able to connect with the camera (and, by extension, the viewers of the video), who cares? But, if you’re looking for a summary, here goes: Under some seriously foreboding Barcelona skies, Shakira straps on a pair of old school roller skates, boogies her way down a beachside boardwalk, climbs on the back of a motorcycle and then shimmies so saucily that we found ourselves surprised that the ominous clouds above didn’t shoot out bolts of lightning in response.
As we’ve come to expect from Shakira, the song is filled with catchy choruses, worldly horns and charmingly broken English. She’s also joined by the UK grime legend Dizzee Rascal, who contributes some spirited raps to the song. Speaking of raps, Shakira even takes the time to spit out a few verses in this song, which, we believe, is a first for her. Enjoy this video on your computer monitor for the next few days, but be sure to tune into VH1′s Top 20 Video Countdown this weekend to catch it in the comfort of your own living room.
While it may not be as catchy of a nickname as “The Situation,” there’s no denying that Trey Songz’s self-given moniker, Mr. Steal Your Girl, informs his work on wax. After bragging that he “invented sex” just a little over a year ago, Trey is back on the scene with a whole set of sexually driven material on his fourth studio album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure. Right out of the gate, his collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Bottoms Up,” blew up on the club circuit — Rest in peace, Anna Nicole Smith! — and now his second single, “Can’t Be Friends,” is also starting to climb the charts. We caught up with Trey here in NYC a few days ago and asked him 5 Questions; take a look at the video above to find out what songs are in heavy rotation on his iPod and who his dream collaborator would be.
So you thought that videos didn’t get any sexier than Shakira’s “She Wolf”? It’s entirely possible that you’re right, but then again, we haven’t seen the entire video for her new single “Loca” yet! Based on the :30 sneak preview that we’ve got for you above, though, it’s going to be a close race (which, really, makes us all winners). In these thirty quick seconds, Shakira is seen on rollerskates, dropping trou in a crowded Barcelona street corner before changing into skintight leather pants, riding a motorcycle in a bikini top and frolicking in a water fountain. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we need to catch our breath. Look for the full video to debut online at midnight on September 29 and on our VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown show this weekend.
