After a week or so of “will she, won’t she,” Britney Spears has decided to give us another piece of herself. In a non performance appearance, the singer will open the 2008 edition of MTV’s VMAs show Sunday night at 9 ET. You’ll recall that things went a bit wrong last year when her dance routine seemed a bit “wan.”
Here’s what she says about her decision. “MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.”
Here’s a song list of several nominated videos and artists.
Here’s Britney’s Box Set, a blend of videos and interviews.
MTV’s big show is taking place this Sunday night at 9 pm ET, and every year there’s been something outrageous that goes down on the VMAs stage. Whether it’s Courtney Love crashing Kurt Loder‘s Madonna interview, Dennis Miller trying to talk to cosmonauts, or Nirvana‘s Kris Novoselic knocking himself out during “Rape Me,” there’s a three-ring circus in effect.
We made up a list of 10 VMAs moments that stick in the minds of many longtime viewers. See if your fave – like parolee Lil Kim showing up in chic jailhouse orange – is part of our collection.

She ruled the world. She spun out of control. She crashed onstage at last year’s MTV Video Awards. But Britney Spears is seeming alot more sane than she did 12 months ago, and the rumor that she’s busting a move this Sunday night on the 2008 VMAs is on lots tongues. Could she truly redeem her off-kilter career is she showed up looking hot a did some cool comedy stunt? Perez Hilton thinks that it would be wise for her to play ball.

Check out 10 memorable moments from the entire history of the VMAs – you do remember Brit playing with her python, right?
Yep, LaLohan has signed up for a fun evening at the MTV VMAs show in L.A. on Sept 7. Can’t say if her honey-bunny constant companion Samantha Ronson will be tagged along, but ‘cmon, when aren’t these two together? If you’re a sports freak rather than a gossip hound, perhaps you’re more impressed by the fact that Michael Phelps (kingpin Olympian, beer pong genius, and Saturday Night Live host), is scheduled to present awards, too. And if you’re 14-year-old girl, you’ll be giddy to know that Ms Miley will participate.

A couple of years ago we were interviewing Fonzworth Bentley – currently serving as the judge on G’s To Gents, and then known as the dude who dresses Diddy. We asked him if he had a favorite piece of clothing and he explained himself well.
“Probably this double faced scarf. I had this made in Italy at a shop, a shop called J. Cross. I picked out the fabric and you know this side of this maize, not yellow, with, I call this color tobacco, colored polka dots. But it?s double faced so it?s silk on one side and then 200 percent cashmere on the other side. So this is like my favorite scarf. It cost $300. I wear it often.”
Nice to see someone passionate about his chosen profession. Bentley’s known for keeping it dapper, so we put together a gallery of his 15 sharpest looks. Which one do you think he looks best in?
The list of artists slated to get onstage at this year’s VMAs show stretches from Lil Wayne to the Jonas Bros. Kid Rock, whose “All Summer Long” has been dominating the charts this season (watch his video in our Summer Songlist) is going to be there as well.
But with a week and a half left until the show, new names are bubbling in…and they’re big. Rihanna, T.I., Pink, and Paramore are all down to participate on September 7. There’s even talk of Michael Jackson moonwalking through the moonmen to give his scandalous sister an award. We’ll keep you up to date on all the changes and additions that come along.
And you recall that wildman Russell Brand is the host for the evening, yes? Here’s a list of 20 Things you should know about the guy before the big show.

Always best to get someone a little outrageous to host a party as unpredictable as MTV’s annual VMAs show. Russell Brand is a little outrageous. In fact, he’s a lot outrageous. The British actor-comedian likes to indulge his impulsive side; the last several years have found him earning a rep as a carousing stud, a crazed drug abuser, and a rabid football fan. No wonder the Brit tabs flock to him. Happily, only the outrageous side remains these days (though the stud thing may linger a bit). Without question, that’s the part we’re likely to see when he hosts this year’s VMAs show on MTV (September 7).

Arson investigators in Long Island are complaining that they can’t get an interview with 50 Cent about the “suspicious fire” that destroyed the house his son and ex-girlfriend were living in. The MC was trying to evict them at time of the blaze.
