Poor cowbell. The once-celebrated percussive instrument that has since been dragged through the comedic mud (albeit hilariously) by Will Ferrell, Christopher Walken and company on Saturday Night Live. But back in the day, some hard rock and heavy metal bands actually held the ole ‘bell in high regard (well, sorta). Whether used as the foundation for the song, in one particular section, or just for the intro, many legendary bands have utilized the percussion instrument – from Mountain to Led Zeppelin to Judas Priest to of course – Blue Öyster Cult. We fell for Adele when she was chasing pavement back in 2008, and it seems like this British beauty is still running. She can crank out hit single after hit single, and she barely breaks a sweat. How DO you do it, woman?! Aside from her catchy tunes, which have enough grit and passion to fill the seats in any (and every) music venue, this You Oughta Know alum gives performances that will knock your socks off – and this one is no exception. She’s wowed us many times before, included her heart-melting appearance on Unplugged, but that friends merely skims the surface.
While Adele’s heart-wrenching lyrics might put you into a lovesick tizzy and pull on your heavy heart, her smile, radiance and sensational riffs will bring you right back to where you need to be. Palladia is airing her full Live From The Artists Den concert Wednesday March 5 at 9/8C. We’ve got a sneak of the U.K. sensation rocking her hit “Rolling In The Deep” at the Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club in Santa Monica, CA. But before you press play, here’s a look back at the times Adele made us completely sob – and herself. Ya know, if you’re in the mood for wallowing in some glorious misery.
It’s been said that rock ‘n’roll is a hazardous business. Too many of music’s best and brightest have fallen victim to drug overdoses, murders, plane crashes and other unfortunate events. But then there are those deaths that are so unexpected, so unpredictable, so bizarre, that we’re left scratching our heads even after all these years.
He’s collaborated with Miley Cyrus and gone reggae, and now the artist sometimes known as Snoop Lion is adding nail art enthusiast to resume. While you were deciding between whether or not to stick with winter colors or dive into some lime green, Snoop Dogg was getting a manicure (his first to our knowledge) in the comfort of his own home. Hey, Nice Nails! made a house call for the King of the LBC, adorning his digits with appropriate decals (a marijuana leaf, dollar sign). Snoop opted for a duo-chrome French manicure, a modern take on a reliable classic.
With comedic actor Fred Armisen taking on the role of bandleader for Seth Meyers’ Late Night show, many fans of the Portlandia star get to remember that he’s quite a pretty versatile musician. He actually played in various bands before ramping up his acting career, and as we can tell, the music has never really left him. In the video above, watch him show VH1 some vocal love with Portlandia co-star Carrie Brownstein.
Everyone knows That Metal Show is the only place for all things hard rock and heavy metal but this Saturday the show focuses on two legends of classic rock. Ed, Don and Jim are joined by Mick Jones, guitarist and primary songwriter for FM radio staples Foreigner, and hallowed king of syrupy guitar tones, Leslie West of Mountain. And if that ain’t enough, the lovely and legendary Lita Ford breaks down the barriers as the show’s first ever female guest musician, and it’s about time! Check out pictures from this week’s taping and tune in Saturday night at 11/10C to watch the whole show and also see the boys address the latest Kiss controversy surrounding their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction, only on VH1 Classic.
