This season on That Metal Show we decided to go behind the stacks and interview some of your favorite TMS guests about their musical gear and find out how they got started playing their instruments in our That Metal Gear features. This week we’re proud to take That Metal Gear to the next level and present an exclusive online interview with heavy metal‘s leading lady, the legendary Lita Ford.
Lita got her start at the age of 16 with groundbreaking all-female hard rock group The Runaways which set the stage for her ‘80s career as a platinum-selling solo artist. Watch Lita walk us through her set up, talk about her love of Black Sabbath and share amazing stories about touring with the Ramones and how Deep Purple and Rainbow guitar god Ritchie Blackmore forever influenced her playing! Pharrell Williams became the talk of the Grammys last month with his, errr, “distinctive” Vivian Westwood “mounties” hat. And now on the biggest night in film, Pharrell made headlines once again by auctioning off the hat on eBay. That’s right: you had the chance to be the owner of this historic/hilarious headgear…provided you were willing to shell out a truly bonkers amount of money.
A Great Big World‘s “Say Something” has been on everybody’s tongue since its release last fall — a song so heart-wrenchingly honest (a la Adele’s “Someone Like You”) that pop diva Christina Aguilera asked to feature on its re-release. It raced to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, because, duh. But if you thought the ballad was touching with full orchestral arrangement clocking in at 3 minutes 49 seconds, you’re wrong. Prepare to run through a box of tissues in one minute while watching Ian Axel’s solo on a keyboard truncate the track for VH1′s Stop/Watch (reducing us to tears in the process).
If you haven’t accepted that Pharrell is OG yet, it might be time to start. With his Oscar performance set for this weekend’s award show, you’d be remiss to think anything less about the rapper/producer/all ’round chill guy. He’s an ultimate bas ass, and both his production and performance discographies are a testament to his prowess in the music world and ongoing impact on popular culture.
There’s gonna be some partying today in New Jersey, because today is the birthday of one of its favorite sons No, NOT Bruce Springsteen -it’s Jon Bon Jovi! The arena rock legend turns 52 today, and the crazy part is…he looks younger than we do! There’s definitely a reason he won the honor of being named the Sexiest Music Man Under 40 (by a whopping 46 percent). He hasn’t changed a bit from when he first burst onto the scene with the rest of Bon Jovi nearly thirty years ago. Don’t believe us? Head up to the mega-gallery above and check out the hair, the ripped jeans, the gorgeous models, and other hallmarks from his ’80s heyday!
They say March roars in like a lion so it’s only fitting that today, March 1st, happens to be the 70th birthday of the lion-manned singer of one of rock’s greatest bands and possessor of one of music’s greatest roars, Roger Daltrey of The Who. Whether as a young, hard-nosed mod, the many-curled icon of the Tommy musical or the tight-shirted, muscular arena rocker, the singer is known for belting out some of the most throat-shredding known screams in hard rock history. And while the years of larynx abuse have brought his range down some recently, anyone who’s seen The Who live in the past couple years, knows he’s still a riveting frontman and powerful vocalist. So in honor of his 7 decades on thie planet, check out 7 of Roger Daltrey’s greatest screams! Read more…
