A few days ago we gave you our list of the sexiest music videos of 2013. We thought it turned out pretty well, but after thinking on it some more we realized that we couldn’t possibly forget all of the super hot cover art from this past year! From album art to single sleeves, we’ve taken a look at some of the very steamiest that the music biz has to offer, and we’re pretty sure that you’ll be pleased with the results…
2013 Wrap + Up
As we type this, tens of thousands of people are flocking to Times Square to bid adieu to the year 2013 and watch the Big Ball drop. Naturally, we’re feeling a bit nostalgic for the year that was, too, and looking back at the songs that defined the year. Unfortunately, as songs achieve critical mass in terms of popularity, that’s right about the same time that they begin entering the “overplayed” stage of their lifecycles. This list is dedicated to them.
Music and sex go together like peanut butter and marshmallow fluff (A.K.A. a “Fluffernutter”). The combo isn’t immediately obvious -and both items definitely stand on their own- but when put together the results are pretty damn sweet. It’s fair to say that music videos keep getting hotter with each passing year. An unforeseen upside of Global Warming? Perhaps. 2013 boasted some of the most seriously sexy vids yet! Head down to the gallery below for 15 of our very favorites. From Miley and her wrecking ball, Nicki Minaj and her “wrecking balls”, and even Beyonce‘s last minute additions (take your pick from seventeen!), we’re sure you’ll be more than satisfied. So read onward for the sexiest music videos of 2013! You’ll come for the hot pics, but you’ll stay for the great beats!
While we like celebrating the biggest comebacks, our favorite songs and albums and all the insanely awesome GIFs, sometimes things are just a flop. This year was filled with a number failures, whether it was albums (sorry, Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake), music videos (all Kanye) or reunions (98 Degrees had nothing on the competition). Unfortunately for these artists, things didn’t work out. Here are the biggest flops of 2013:
The album, as a format, has seen better days—overall album sales dropped 6.1% this year when compared to 2012—but neither consumers nor artists have yet to come up with a better solution. That said, a number of albums by major artists this year (like Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, and Jay Z) really resonated with consumers. Let’s take a look at the year that was and countdown the albums that were released this year that sold the most copies, shall we?
Let’s get it straight: 2013 was a great year for new music. Even as the year opened with music critics lamenting the auto-tuned state of pop music and the slow death of the album as an art form, new and creative acts emerged from seemingly nowhere to revitalize the charts (and established acts reinvented themselves as musical vanguards).
2013 will be remembered as the year when a 16-year-old girl conquered the world from New Zealand, three rocking sisters from California lived up to their hype and a viral video from Sweden couldn’t get out of our heads. Oh, and it will also be remembered as the year of “new Miley.”
2013, like any other other year, had its ups and downs, surprises, snubs and WTF moments. But unlike any other year, every essential moment in 2013 was captured and preserved in GIF form. We no longer had to dig through YouTube to watch a 30-second ad before a 15-second video splice of an award show performance gone wrong. All we had to to was turn to Google and image search, “Miguel leg drop GIF.” Boom, the results were full of animated pictures showing you exactly what you wanted to see from the Billboard Music Awards.
So, let’s take a look back on this year in GIFs.
Usually rock stars tend to get offended if you label them a sell-out, but not when you’re referring massive stadium shows! Music fans were spoiled this past year with some truly awesome concert tours making their way around the world, and now we’ve decided to take a look back at some of the highest grossing of 2013. There were many to choose from, but the top earner may surprise you…
Yesterday, we successfully brought you the VH1 staff’s favorite albums of 2013 without any bloodshed, and we’re happy to report that no one’s brain exploded while trying to narrow down the amazing albums of 2013 into a concise list. However, now it’s time to talk about how most people listen to music these days: By the song.
There’s no doubt that 2013 was the year of the twerk. Partially thanks to Miley Cyrus, the dancing craze reached a new mass level prompting VH1’s own Mark Graham to write up the complete history of twerking and Oxford Dictionaries to add the word to its online database. (In case you’re curious; “Twerk, v.: dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.”) And as we close out the year, we thought it was important to look back on all the jams that made our booty clap, bounce, shake or whatever it was that you did to thrust your hips in a twerk-like manner.
Like Jay Z rapped on Magna Carter Holy Grail, “somewhereinamerica, Miley Cyrus is still twerkin’.”
