Pharrell Williams Drops A Truth Bomb: Jay-Z Was Working On “Glory” Before Blue Ivy Was Even Born

When you first heard Jay-Z‘s “Glory,” did you imagine Jay-Z penning the track as Beyoncé pushed and groaned, tiny baby Blue screaming as she emerged from the womb? Or did you imagine the little bundle of joy, peacefully sleeping in the nook of her glowing father’s arm as he whispered lyrics to her? Whatever fantasy you had, forget it, because “Glory” collaborator Pharrell Williams has just dropped a truth bomb, revealing that Jay-Z was working on the track before baby Blue was even born. Pharrell said, “[Jay-Z and Beyoncé], they live a different lifestyle, and it was important for him to stop everything that he had going on and just sort of make statement to his baby and his wife.” He added that when they wrote the song, they had Stevie Wonder‘s “Isn’t She Lovely” in mind, and that Jay-Z underwent a similar process for his first son, but that he’s “more quiet and private about his life”. We don’t think the dream need be entirely shattered though — now we’re imagining Hova in the evening, maybe by a fireplace, resting his head on Bey’s full belly while he jots down words about the bundle of joy inside.

Gwyneth Paltrow Gushes Over Baby Blue Ivy: “She Is Going To Be An Entertainer”

Remember when you were a baby and your mom’s bestie, Gwyneth Paltrow, said you were going to be a star one day? No? Neither do we. Probably because it never happened. But when baby Blue Ivy Carter learns to read and starts perusing Tuner, she’ll be able to answer, “Yes, yes! I remember that! That happened to me!” Gushing aunt Gwyn has told Hollywood Life that Blue Ivy “Is going to be an entertainer. She just has this glow around her like her mother.” Phew. We’re glad we’re not the only ones who thought Beyoncé looked a little bit radioactive. Gwyneth also added that “Beyoncé is doing great… She’s just a natural at being a mom. And Blue Ivy is stunning, she has the most beautiful eyes.” Before we deem Gwyneth to be a future-teller, however, we should note that Blue Ivy is already a star, with the most hyped birth since that one by that virgin in the manger that time, and already making history as the youngest ever “artist” to chart after she lent her vocals to dad Jay-Z‘s track “Glory”.

SNL: Nicki Minaj, Bon Iver And A Very Surprised Taylor Swift Drop By Jay-Z And Beyonce’s House

Maya Rudolph and Sleigh Bells were the host and musical guest, respectively, on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live. The standout sketch of the evening involved the world’s most famous new parents, Jay-Z (played by Jay Pharoah) and Beyoncé (Rudolph) welcoming a slew of famous musicians to their crib to welcome the newest member of the Carter family, Blue Ivy Carter (see: Photos of Blue Ivy Carter). Their guests at their Scarsdale, NY home included the mystery wrapped inside of a riddle wrapped inside of an enigma that is Prince (played to perfection by Fred Armisen), 2012 Grammys host LL Cool J (played by Kenan Thompson, a comedian whose many strengths do not include the ability to do a spot-on impression), a rambunctious Nicki Minaj (played more than adequately by Nasim Pedrad), Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (Taran Killam and Abby Elliott, respectively), and a VERY surprised Taylor Swift (Kristen Wiig).

There was one other surprise visitor to see the Notorious B.I.C. — the 2012 winner of the Best New Artist Grammy, Bon Iver! Frequent SNL cameo actor and former musician Justin Timberlake turned in a hilarious impression of the notoriously shy indie frontman, which included singing a parody version of “Holocene” that served as a lullaby that put both Blue Ivy AND Bon Iver himself to sleep. Justin (unnecessarily) went out of his way at the end of the show to make peace with the bearded Wisconsin native, holding up a sign that read “I (Heart) Bon Iver” as the show credits rolled, but we’re pretty sure that the recent SNL musical guest didn’t care. After all, unlike Snooki and Skrillex, everyone managed to pronounce his name correctly.

Beyonce And Jay-Z Post The First Photos Of Blue Ivy Carter … ON TUMBLR!

Blue Ivy Carter Photos

Glory, indeed! Proud parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z capped off a historic week by releasing pictures of their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on their brand new HelloBlueIvyCarter Tumblr site (!!!) this evening. “We welcome you to share in our joy,” the couple posted in a hand-written note on the site. “Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives.”

The photos are undated, but they appear as if they were taken from the couple’s luxury birthing suite at New York City’s Lenox Hill Hospital, where Baby Blue was born back on January 7. Thankfully, The Notorious B.I.C. looks nothing like 50 Cent insinuated, but she certainly does have a thick head of hair!

We think that it’s pretty cool that Bey and Hov, who could’ve raked in close to $2 million if they had sold these photos to one of the tabloid magazines, decided to release the photos on a Tumblr site where everyone is free to enjoy them. Considering all of the scrutiny and bad press they encountered after their controversial hospital stay back in January, though, it was a very savvy move to get the fans (and the press alike) fully back on their side. As we alluded to above, these baby pictures are the icing on an incredible week for the Carter family: Not only did Jay-Z perform two historic shows at Carnegie Hall, but Bey stepped out in public for the first time since Blue Ivy’s birth to universal praise. SWAG!

Beyonce’s Alleged Miscarriage, Aaliyah’s Death And Other Insights Into Jay-Z’s New Song, “Glory (Featuring B.I.C.)”

The Internet has pretty much come to a standstill this afternoon thanks to Jay-Z’s new track “Glory”, which features vocals from the youngest MC in the game, his 2-day-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter (aka The Notorious B.I.C.). In the halls here at Video Hits One, the song is pumping out of offices, tinny laptop speakers and even iPod earbuds, and has driven all of the women (and even some grown ass men) to tears. Well, your friendly VH1 Tuner editors have managed to keep the tears at a minimum and stay focused on the task at hand, and we’re happy to bring you this close reading of “Glory”:

BEYONCÉ SUFFERED A MISCARRIAGE … OR DID SHE?
Lyrics In Question: “False alarms and false starts, all made better by the sound of your heart / All the of the pain of the last time, I prayed so hard it was the last time” and “Last time the miscarriage was so tragic / We was afraid you’d disappear but nah baby, you magic”
Translation: Everyone in the media is inferring that this lyric is about Beyoncé, but there’s a pretty good chance that it isn’t. In Jay-Z’s song “This Can’t Be Life,” he makes reference to a stillborn baby (“Baby came out stillborn / So I gotta move on”) from a previous relationship, a fact that was also confirmed in his book Decoded. Now, this isn’t to say DEFINITIVELY that the reference isn’t to something that happened between Jay-Z and Beyoncé —as we know, these two are nothing if not tremendously private— but rather that all of the media speculation attributing this reference to Bey is a bit premature.

THAT SH*T CRAY: BLUE IVY CARTER WAS CONCEIVED IN PARIS
Lyric In Question: “You don’t yet know what swag is / But you was made in Paris / And Mama woke up the next day and shot her album package.”
Translation: Step off, Beyoncé birthers! Much has been made of the legitimacy of Beyoncé’s pregnancy, and the inclusion of this line is a not-so-subtle “Eff you” from Jay-Z to the haters. Because we’re nothing if not sticklers for the truth, we did some research and discovered that Bey and Jay took a 9-day trip to Paris from April 19, 20102011 until April 28, 2011. During this time, they recorded the vocals to “Lift Off” (which appeared on Jay and Ye’s Watch The Throne collaboration) and, apparently, made sweet, sweet love. If you do the math, that trip was eight months and some change ago.

Jay-Z Features Vocals From His Baby Daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, On New Track “Glory”

Well, that was quick! Earlier today, we predicted that Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z and Beyoncé‘s brand-new baby daughter, would make her recording debut when she turned 11 years-old. Well, it turns out she simply couldn’t wait that long for her shot at chart glory; the 2-days-old’s “vocals” are featured on Hova’s brand new track, “Glory”, which was just posted on his website LifeAndTimes.com. She’s credited here as B.I.C., which is an obvious tip of the cap to Jigga’s old friend, The Notorious B.I.G. Also, if you’re curious, the song was produced by Pharrell of The Neptunes.

For an artist who has built his entire career on his honest, confessional lyrics, this might just be the most candid and emotional song that Hov has ever put on wax. In it, he confesses that he and Beyoncé may have suffered through a miscarriage at some point in the past (“Last time the miscarriage was so tragic / We was afraid you’d disappear / But nah baby, you magic”) and ecstatically describes the joy at becoming a father (“Baby, I paint the sky blue / My greatest creation was you”). Being Jay-Z, though, he can’t help but get a bit braggadocious on the cut; in it, he sings “You don’t yet know what swag is / But you was made in Paris / And Mama woke up the next day and shot her album package.”
