Ryan Lochte Gets Gold And Then A “Call Me” Of His Own

Maybe it’s too soon to call, but our money is on Carly Rae Jepsen winning the 2012 London Olympics MVP, as “Call Me” fever has been spiriting medal winners Canadian and otherwise. Last week, the so-far winning U.S. Olympic swim team won our affection with a spirited, lip-synch to the song that just won’t quit. And now, the team’s breakout star has earned himself a “Call Me” cover as good as his gold.

Ryan Lochte upset Michael Phelps in the 400m IM on Saturday, and emerged from the pool one of the most fawned over U.S. Olympians this round. He atop the podium, the internet went ahead and declared him “King of the Pool” with this hilarious “Call Me Lochte” paradoy. “It’s hard to swim right by Phelps, baby/ But this is my year, so call me Lochte,” the rework riffs, swapping the original’s indecisive “maybe” for the more confident kiss-off of a winner. Finally! Somebody Has Made That Gotye/Carly Rae Jepsen We Needed

Somebody hit that button they maybe shouldn’t have and all we can do now is thank them. That somebody is the indie band Pomplamoose, and what they did was combine the year’s two biggest hits into one, quite lovely mash-up. If you thought that the lush melodies of Gotye‘s  “Somebody That I Used To Love” and Carly Rae Jepsen‘s bouyant “Call Me Maybe” could not be combined — hit play above — you are wrong. And if you worried that maybe they shouldn’t be, if only for the sake of a YouTube viewership already all too happy to spend their summer watching only those two videos — well, it’s too late. There’s only one video we need now. Because here we have it: the “Somebody That I Used To Know Call Me Maybe” mash-up of our dreams. Finally!

Carly Rae Jepsen Has A “Good Time” With Owl City

While watching the Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards the other night, we wondered if Carly Rae Jepsen might be in danger of running herself into a rut. That night, she took home three awards and was on stage many more times than that. She performed “Call Me Maybe” and sounded great, and then she joined Flo Rida for “Wild Ones” and sounded great again. For many of us, though, that was a first chance to hear her sing something besides “Call Me Maybe,” and we sort of wished she could have tried something new so we could really see what she’s got.

Well, today we get our wish: here’s a new song that features Carly Rae Jepsen that is not named “Call Me Maybe”!

As Carly Rae Jepsen Hits No. 1, We Count Down Our 4 Favorite “Call Me Maybe” Mashups

Does the world look a little clearer today? Because yesterday, after 16 weeks on the charts, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s seriously infectious “Call Me Maybe” took its deserved place atop the Billboard Hot 100. Accepting the honor, Jepsen told Billboard that she feels “so blessed” because “life keeps surprising me lately,” but we are pretty that anyone with ears and a heart has known since that first listen that this would happen. And, thank you Justin Bieber co-signs and Katy Perry lip synchs and Carlos Pena productions, it finally has!

In honor of the inevitable — and because, really, we still can’t get enough — we’ve rounded up a few new ways for you to listen to America’s favorite song:
