We’re not over how disappointing Cruel Summer was. Imagine our relief when Common squashed all the rumors of a G.O.O.D. Music Cruel Winter album in the works. In theory a collective project of G.O.O.D. Music’s finest–Big Sean, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor and 2 Chainz–sounded marvelous. And it bares mentioning Kanye West has yet to create a less than stellar album in the nine years since his first debut. Unfortunately Cruel Summer was mostly forgettable. You played it over and over hoping it’d get better. It never did. Read more…
I Am Not A Human Being II has been the long-awaited album from Lil Wayne featuring the lead single “No Worries.” Kanye may not be contributing any music to the project, but he is trying his hand at designing. Ye is packaging Wayne’s album, which means he’s designing the cover art, inside booklet and the visuals for I Am Not A Human Being II. He’s taken jack of all trades to another level. Read more…
Last night while he and his beau Kim Kardashian were out and about making New York Fashion Week rounds, Kanye West‘s long dreamed of, often delayed and highly anticipated G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer found its way onto the internet. So, if you were looking for something more substantial than those preview-snippets and are good with Google, now’s the time to go forth to Cruel Summer! If otherwise, the album’s soaring opening track, “To The World,” featuring Kanye and his fellow Chicagoan R. Kelly, should be enough to keep you lifted until the album hits shelves next Tuesday.
One of the fall season’s most anticipated releases, G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer is just a few days away, ready to drop on September 18. Already, the all-star compilation’s lead singles, “Mercy,” “New God Flow,” “Cold” and “Clique”, have our G.O.O.D. music fever burning hot. The star-studded tracklist suggests that we’ve only known the beginning of it, because Kanye West is readying to drop another monster of an album on us. In the mix are G.O.O.D. Music men Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, D’Banj, Cyhi the Prynce, Kid Cudi and John Legend, G.O.O.D. Music’s first lady Teyana Taylor, as well as a handful of unexpected others summonsed from Kanye’s thick rolodex, like Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah, The-Dream and Ma$e. No big deal, you know?
Can’t wait until Tuesday to hear all that new G.O.O.D. Music? Check out a preview now below or via iTunes. First up? The biggest R. Kelly hook calling on you to put your middle finger up. Okay! Until Tuesday, we leave you with that typically climactic, middle finger-flicking R.Kelly hook on the opening track, “To the World.” Read more…
SNOOP DOGG TO RELEASE REGGAE ALBUM AS SNOOP LION
New sound, new name: Snoop Dogg will be reborn as Snoop Lion, the reggae star, on his next and twelve album, Reincarnated. And, Jah permits, there will be some sort of documentary to follow. Check out his first effort, “La La La,” below. [Billboard]
It’s raining G.O.O.D. Music news today. Earlier today the official release date (September 4th) for Cruel Summer was announced. Not only can we start marking off calendar days for the label’s first compilation album, 2 Chainz‘s “Birthday Song” featuring Kanye West is being streamed by Fader magazine right now. Tonight at midnight the song from 2 Chainz’s forthcoming Based On A T.R.U. Story will be available on iTunes. In the meantime listen to the potential breakout artist of the year rap, “all I want for my birthday is a big booty gul” (that’s his southern pronunciation of girl). This southern gal knows. Looks like it’s going to be a Cruel Summer, and then straight back to work for Kanye West! Speaking with MTV News, Def Jam VP and long time Kanye collaborator No I.D. let slip that he has been working with Kanye on a new solo project that is slated to follow-up the G.O.O.D. crew project. “It’s what you expect and everything you don’t expect,” he teased, reminding also that Kanye “hasn’t missed yet.” Besides greatness, though, what exactly do we expect?
Of course, every breathe Kanye starts a rumor. Based on a few of the things we know, and a few of the things we have heard, a few things you might considered when deciding what to expect of this sixth studio album:
Just a day after he debuted his verse a capella at the BET awards, Kanye has graced us with the full “New God Flow” track. The song builds a sample of Ghostface Killah‘s “Mighty Healthy” to a piano-driven beat that is about as spare as the one Ye banged out on the BET stage with his foot. It’s patient, too, providing plenty enough space within for West and his guest Pusha T to stack their boasts high while dreaming of piles higher. For these two, G.O.O.D.’s not enough — they want that new god flow. The track is available for full stream or download on West’s website. Read more…
Speaking with DJ Funkmaster Flex last night on New York City radio station Hot 97, Clipse and G.O.O.D. Music rapper Pusha T let it slip that Cruel Summer — the G.O.O.D. Music all-star compilation that Kanye West has been teasing since last fall — is set to drop later this summer. “August 7, G.O.O.D. Music compliation coming August 7,” he said. “So fitting, right? Cruel! Stifling!” Pusha, tell us more!
Be warned that, as we learned last summer with Watch the Throne, these sorts of album releases don’t always go as planned. That said, Kanye has been teasing this album since last fall, and the lead single “Mercy” has seen heavy-radio rotation already this summer. A summer without the rest of Cruel Summer would be cruel indeed.
Falling head over heels in love with Kim Kardashian isn’t the only thing Kanye West is up to. According to MissInfo.TV, West is screening his short art film “Cruel Summer” at Cannes Film Festival in France, which is open to the public on May 24 and May 25. As if being a super producer, rapper and fashion designer weren’t enough to keep the superstar busy, he’s moving forward full throttle with his interests in filmmaking and directing. He’s taken a stab at directing before with his 35 minute video to “Runaway” from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. What exactly “Cruel Summer” will be about was left a mystery. But it’s Kanye West, so we’re confident it’s going to be an explosion of abstract art following a concept that is provocative. It will get the people going!
Per the Def Jam released press release, Kanye and his creative collective DONDA are screening the film out of competition. It promises to deliver something unlike anything we’ve seen from Yeezy before. The press release stated, “Inspired by the new G.O.O.D. Music album of the same name, CRUEL SUMMER is a fusion of short film and art installation; an immersive ‘7 Screen Experience’ for the eyes and ears unlike anything West has attempted before.” If you’re in France, the RSVP details are on Mr. West’s website.
For those of us that can’t make it to Cannes, France, we’ll have to live vicariously through YouTube (at least we hope it ends up on there anyway). The possibilities of what Yeezy will do are endless. And considering he’s working on an upcoming album of the same title makes it all the more sweet. Let the “Cruel Summer” begin.
