Ke$ha Gives “Many F***s” About Her New Album

It’s been two years now that we’ve been brushing our teeth with a bottle of Jack and slathering on glitter each morning, because waking up feeling like Ke$ha sounds at least as much fun as waking up feeling like Diddy. 2010′s platinum Animal LP, and the same year’s Cannibal EP, have so far assured a steady drip of half-rapped and crass to pop radio. As sure as we are that we’ll listen “We R Who We R” until the end days, we are eager also to see what more the shock-pop queen’s got.

There have been whispers about a new album, but save for that snippet Dr. Luke leaked about sexy-time with the supernatural and something about a new genre called c*ck pop is about all she’s afforded the subject. Until now: In an interview in the new issue of Rolling Stone, the wild star talks at length about the project, and promises that, “about 90 percent of the time, I don’t give a f*ck. But I give so many f*cks about this album.”

So there will be no messing with that spirit of hers. Instead, it sounds like she plans to employ her wonderfully unhinged energy for the better. “I said ‘Let’s leave the tricks to a minimum and let me wail,’” she said. “I want it to be a mix of what works on the radio and what I listen to in my spare time,” she added, citing a “steady diet of T. Rex and Iggy Pop.” Fellow weirdo Wayne Coyne might make an appearance, as could The Black Keys‘ drummer Patrick Carney; and according to Rolling Stone‘s report, the 17 songs she’s started work on are “all stomping, ultracatchy dance tracks.” And unlike her records past, things could might deep this time around. “The first two records talked more about partying, which is a great, magical part of life. But some songs on the new record are more personal and vulnerable,” she said. More personal than her illicit morning routine? Until the album’s release, set tentatively for later this year, we can only hope.

Katy Perry Is “Wide Awake” After Her Divorce From Russell Brand

At the moment, there is no more formidable team in music than Katy Perry, Bonnie McKee, Dr. Luke and Max Martin. During the 2009-2010 writing/recording sessions for Perry’s Teenage Dream album, this group wrote four songs together — “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and “Part Of Me”. All four of those songs went to #1.

So when it came time for Katy to put together Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection earlier this year, she made sure to enlist the help of her dream team when it came to writing the sole “new” track for the record, which ultimately was titled “Wide Awake.” Back in March, she told our friends over at MTV News that the team wrote and recorded the track over the course of just four days. “I can’t wait eight months to be able to put out this feeling that I’m feeling right now,” she explained. “Not only did I write the song because I needed to flush that out of my system, but I wrote it for the film as well.”

Katy debuted “Wide Awake” at the Billboard Music Awards last night, and then dropped a brand new lyric video for the emotional track after the show. There is a “real” video for the track on the way, but as a way to satiate the masses until its release, this lyric video was released. It does not refer to the lyrics of the song directly — lyrics in which Katy comes to painful grips with her recent divorce from Russell Brand — but is notable in that it’s the first video to take on the look and feel of Facebook’s new(ish) timeline feature. And hey, if you pay close enough attention, you’ll see that VH1.com even gets a shout-out in it. Look ma, we’re finally famous!

Ke$ha Has Created Her Own Music Genre But Be Warned, It’s NSFW

Leave it to Ke$ha to declare that she’s invented a new genre of music called “C*ck Pop”. She doesn’t even have one of those, but it looks like that’s what her style is regardless, although we’re not entirely sure what it means. Music that comes out of a man’s genitalia? Or music as, er… played by a man’s genitalia? We’re very sorry for the disturbing mental imagery you might be getting right now, but Ke$ha said it, not us! Ke$ha Tweeted about the new genre regarding a collaboration with Dr. Luke and Benny Benassi, which we’re guessing is going to be something of a club anthem, and we’re intrigued by the anatomy of it all…

Adam Lambert Describes His New LP As “Nine Inch Nails Meets Saturday Night Fever

American Idol runner-up and super duper pop star supreme Adam Lambert has revealed he’s pulling out the big guns for his next album, Trespassing. Enlisting the services of A-list producers Pharrell Williams and Dr. Luke, Lambert is taking his music in a new direction, and we’ve been warned — there will be dancing.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lambert describes his new musical direction as a bit of dubstep, a bit of electronica, and even some “Nine Inch Nails meets Saturday Night Fever” sounds mixed in there. It’s not all about partying and clubbing, though, as Lambert makes it patently clear that his album will retain his trademark depth and boundary-pushing material. “There’s party music, sex music, f****d-up-relationship S&M music,” he tells RS. “But every song explores something real.”

Although his sophomore effort has been delayed a few times now, things seem to be on track for the album to come out sometime early next year. As much as we love the holiday season, 2012 can’t get here quickly enough! After all, we love us some Glambert!

Can Katy Perry’s New Video For “The One That Got Away” Take Her Song All The Way To #1?

Katy Perry‘s Teenage Dream has been one of the more unstoppable albums to hit record stores since the music industry’s heyday in the 1990s. Released way back in August of 2010, it has been firmly planted in the Billboard 200 for an astounding 63 weeks and counting, and has produced five, count ‘em, five #1 singles so far, the first album since Michael Jackson’s 1987 smash Bad to accomplish that feat. Not content to simply tie this record, Katy Perry has just released a sixth single, “The One That Got Away,” complete with another high-production-value video.

So, will the gamut work? Quite frankly, the road to #1 looks pretty daunting at this point. The song is currently sitting at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and will have to find a way to eclipse heavy hitters like Rihanna‘s “We Found Love,” Adele’s weepy “Someone Like You,” and the red-hot David Guetta/Usher collabo “Without You” over the next few weeks to hit the top spot (not to mention Lady Gaga‘s “Marry The Night,” which promises to be a huge hit during the holidays). Additionally, the song does not benefit from its striking sonic similarities to Ke$ha‘s “Animal”; the choruses of both of these songs share virtually the same melody, and the vocal inflections of Katy and Ke$ha are also remarkably similar, which makes sense considering that Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald was a credited writer on both tracks. Nor does it benefit from covering the same thematic territory as the aforementioned “Someone Like You” in an arguably less emotionally resonant fashion.

Album Preview: Rihanna’s Talk That Talk Is The Dirtiest Pop Record Since Madonna’s Erotica

Actually, scratch that. Rihanna‘s new record, Talk That Talk, is the dirtiest “pop” record we have ever heard. We listened to the entirety of the 11-song album, which will hit stores on Monday, November 21, earlier this afternoon here at our Times Square headquarters and can confirm that everyone in attendance left the room with flushed cheeks after experiencing extensive periods of blushing.

Now, this is not to say that Rihanna has gone out and recorded the female As Nasty As They Wanna Be; it’s not simply a sexually-explicit affair (although, at one point during The-Dream produced track “Birthday Cake,” she does proclaim “I wanna f*** you right now”). Rather, Talk That Talk continues the conversation that Rihanna began with her single “S&M” (off Loud) and, if you’ll pardon the Spinal Tap reference, turns it up to 11. Rihanna and her chief partner-in-crime, songwriter Ester Dean (who either wrote or co-wrote at least six songs on the LP), have put together a record that not only oozes sex, but also revolves almost exclusively around it.
