Coachella 2013: Blur, Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Stone Roses To Headline This Year’s Festival

Coachella 2013 Lineup

After lots of speculation and one cruise, the lineup for this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been announced. Blur, the Stone Roses, Phoenix and Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to headline the three-day fest that spans two weekends (April 12-14 and April 19-21) for the second consecutive year, which is very exciting but also a little underwhelming. Don’t get us wrong, the top of the lineup is an interesting combination of legendary acts and artists with upcoming release we can’t wait to hear, but after l2012′s even greater mix of genres closing out each sweltering day, we can’t help but feel this year’s fest is dominated by the WGWGs.

That’s not to say that the second and third (and fourth and fifth) tier acts aren’t fabulous: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, and, oh yeah, Wu-Tang Clan, plus the return of the Postal Service (!) and VH1 favorites like Tegan and Sara, Jessie Ware and our January You Oughta Know artist, Allen Stone. Well done, friends!

The Weeknd Cancels ACL Show Hours Before His Scheduled Performance

The Weeknd Cancels ACL Performance Hours Before Scheduled To Perform

For new artists like The Weeknd, Austin City Limits music festival is the perfect venue to play for thousands of adorning fans while also gaining the attention of potential new ones. Unfortunately, those looking forward to watching the “Wicked Games” singer perform today may be disappointed. Hours before his 5:15 p.m. set, The Weeknd cancelled his show due to doctor’s orders. His vocals need to rest, which means we won’t get to sing along to his sounds of seduction.

A statement was released apologizing for the no-show. “Regrettably The Weeknd will not be performing at ACL Festival today. Early this morning, under Doctors instructions, Abel has been put on a rest period to help with recurring vocal, aural and respiratory issues. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to fans. We hope he will recover quickly. There will be a personal statement later today.” DJ Mel was called in to perform in The Weeknd’s slot. New artists can’t afford to cancel shows, especially not one as large as the ACL Festival. Oftentimes bailing on performances doesn’t sit well with fans or the hosts of the festival. But since it was for medical purposes, hopefully the strength of his eargasm baby-making music will help folks get over his absence quickly.

ACL 2012 Day Two: The Roots, Gotye, Metric And Big Krit

A music festival attendee’s worst nightmare is overcast in the sky that threatens to unleash a torrential downpour upon thousands of concertgoers. Unfortunately, we weren’t spared from the rain that descended upon Zilker Park on Saturday off and on for the entire day leading well into the night. But resilient music fans aren’t scared off easily, especially not by water falling from the clouds. The show must go on. And it did. Read more…

ACL 2012: Florence + The Machine Steal The Show Opening Night, Plus Esperanza Spalding, Tegan And Sara, The Black Keys

Tens of thousand of people set-up blankets or folding chairs on the grass throughout Zilker Park in Austin, Texas for the first day of Austin City Limits Music Festival. For the music lovers without either, they stood surrounding one of the eight stages for that one of a kind feeling of a live performance by their favorite artist. The sweltering heat was an obvious topic of conversation among attendees and performers. Sara from Tegan and Sara worried she may pass out. However, a beaming sun didn’t deter the determined legion of fans from bouncing cheerfully from one end of the park to the other, stage to stage, with water in hand. Read more…

Prince and Mary J. Blige Team Up For Unexpected Duet At iHeartRadio Music Festival

Prince and Mary J Blige - iHeartRadio Music Festival

Please forgive us if this post is only moderately coherent. Last night, the  iHeartRadio Music Festival came to a close by showcasing some of the best artists ever to enter the game. And one of the most jaw-dropping performances came from a guy — a legend, really — who wasn’t even in the lineup.

When Mary J. Blige announced she was going to perform a cover, the audience went into a frenzy when it realized the song in question was “Sweet Thing,” Blige’s cover of the Chaka Khan classic. But heads nearly exploded when Blige turned to stage right and introduced her friend Prince. Immediately, every person in the MGM Grand Garden Arena gasped and then screamed. The sound was deafening, the excitement palpable.

P!NK and Gwen Stefani Perform “I’m Just A Girl,” One Of Many Surprises At iHeartRadio Music Festival

How does one even begin to recap a concert that lasted five and a half hours and featured 10 of the biggest names in music today? The second annual iHeartRadio Music Festival kicked off it’s two-day extravaganza yesterday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and fans weren’t disappointed. Usher, Rihanna, Green Day, No Doubt, and P!NK were just a few of the artist who brought hits, both old and new, to the stage.

The first major surprise of the night belonged to No Doubt.

When we heard from a few insiders that No Doubt would open the show with a little help from our friend and Storytellers subject P!NK, we had no idea how our wildest dream would actually come true. Would P!NK fly through the arena on her magic scarves and join Gwen and the crew for a revamped version of “Don’t Speak” or would she simple walk out on stage during the chorus of “Spiderwebs?” Neither one of those things happened. P!NK actually didn’t join No Doubt until midway through their set.

Billie Joe Armstrong Smashes Guitar, Declares He’s Not “F–king Justin Bieber” At The iHeartRadio Music Festival

Green Day - iHeartRadio Music Festival

We don’t know what happened before Green Day took the stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival last night, but whatever it was sure put Billie Joe Armstrong in a mood. From the moment he spoke his first words into the mic, Billie Joe was in full rock star mode.

Billie Joe greeted the audience with, “Get your f–king lazy a–es in the air!” And they listened like obedient little rockers overcome with the intoxicating air of a band that is just as influential today as they were when they first started a couple of decades ago (more on that later). The crowd was dancing, singing, and playing along with Billie’s I-don’t-give-a-f–k attitude. Nearly every other word he spoke was a certain expletive that begins with an “f” and rhymes with “duck”. There wasn’t a person in the arena who didn’t feel sorry for the poor guy manning the dump button. The MGM Grand Garden Arena was electrified.
