12 Songs From 2012 That We Hope We Never Hear In 2013

Psy Dances Gangnam Style On The View

As Times Square gets ready for the influx of hundreds of thousands of revelers here to celebrate the arrival of 2013 Anno Domini, the Korean sensation PSY is plotting to retire his massive YouTube hit, “Gangnam Style.” “Being in Times Square on New Year’s Eve is already special — it’s the biggest stage in the universe — plus it’s my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of ‘Gangnam Style,’” PSY told our friends over at MTV News. “I mean, what better way to do it?”

We couldn’t agree more! As much as we loved “Gangnam Style” when we first saw it appear on YouTube, we have no reservations whatsoever about retiring the song in 2013 because, let’s face it, the song is #PLAYEDOUT. In that spirit, here’s our list of other songs from 2012 that we hope to hear tonight and will always recall fondly, but honestly hope to never hear again once the sun rises tomorrow morning.

12 SONGS FROM 2012 THAT WE HOPE WE NEVER HEAR IN 2013

12. The Lumineers, “Ho Hey” – After thousands of listens, “Ho! Hey!” is starting to turn into “No! Way!”
11. Neon Trees, “Everybody Talks” – It started with a whisper, but when we hear this song on the radio now, it makes us wanna shout “CHANGE THE CHANNEL!”
10. One Direction, “Little Things” – We can’t remember a more passive-aggressive song ever getting this much airplay. #cringeworthy

The 8 Most Viral Music Sensations Of 2012

The days of summer beach hopping and brunching outside of lofty restaurant patios in the sun seem like only days ago. Now Christmas is two weeks away, which means 2012 is winding down and 2013 is on the horizon. VH1 Tuner is excited to present to you with a myriad of fun end-of-year lists for the rest of December, as we reflect back on the year that was. And what would 2012 be without the music YouTube phenomenons that made us laugh, scratch our head and dance? Without further ado, here’s to the rising crop of music stars (or at least popular for the moment) who can credit “going viral” for their success.

8. Austin Mahone, “Say Somethin”

He’s not the next Justin Bieber. We’re only writing it because the comparison has been made a zillion times. Austin’s teeny bopper song “Say Somethin” spread quickly in the cyber world after his popularity grew from his covers of pop stars’ hit songs. The kid’s YouTube page of 90 million views and over 500,000 subscribers ultimately led to one of his biggest opportunities to date. From YouTube sensation to opening for Taylor Swift’s her RED tour, another one bites the good ol’ YouTube dust.

7. Rap Battle Royale: Loaded Lux vs. Calicoe

One rap battle, two MCs, lyrically spar for bragging rights as the dopest rapper. This year’s most noteworthy battle birthed the infamous quote: “You gon’ get this work.” Loaded Lux and Calicoe battled for over 30 minutes in front of an anxious crowd vigilantly waiting to decide which rapper would hold the championship belt. The video quickly made its way to hip-hop sites galore where Loaded Lux’s “you gon’ get this work” had even Jay-Z tweeting the line. Shoutout to Lux for one of the hottest catchphrases of 2012.

Maroon 5 And PSY Battle It Out For No. 1 Spot While Mumford And Sons Land Biggest Debut Album Of The Year

PSY, Mumford & Sons And Maroon 5 Score Big on Billboard Charts

PSY is slowly but surely becoming the next big phenomenon in music with the growing popularity of “Gangnam Style,” which climbed the charts due to its viral YouTube hit. Despite the song’s success it couldn’t ease its way pass Maroon 5‘s “One More Night” to take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. In the closest race between Nos. 1 and 2 since February, “One More Night” kept its No. 1 spot for the third week in a row. “Gangnam Style” was nearly 500 overall chart points away from the coveted head position. Considering how close it was we think PSY should still honor his promise to perform “topless in a place where everyone can watch.” Read more…

Britney Spears Dances “Gangnam Style” With PSY On Ellen

The internet  is doing it, Big Morning Buzz is doing it, and now Britney Spears is doing it, too. Brit always did have moves.

Last week, Britney tweeted her love for PSY‘s giddy-up “Gangnam Style” dance, suggesting that, “I should possibly learn the choreography. Anybody wanna teach me?! haha.” Ellen DeGeneres saw real brilliance in the thought, and took the opportunity of Britney’s visit to Ellen yesterday to turn that dream to reality.

“Oh!” Britney twanged, when Ellen surprised her with a lesson from the man most up to the task, PSY himself. Now signed to Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy records, he made sure to introduce himself properly before moving onto the lesson. Hands soft, he instructed, and bounce like you’re riding a horse. Britney seemed a little confused that they asked her to go off program, but when the music hit, she nailed the dance like the pro she is — high heels and tight dress and all. As PSY insists, “dress classy and dance cheesy.”

Who will be next to go Gangnam? Mr. Romney, we say it’s your move. Everybody is doing it!
