Sia is one of those artists who, even if you don’t initially recognize their name, you immediately recognize their voice. Her sultry vocals were prominent in a handful of the European downtempo electronica group Zero 7‘s songs during the 2000s, and her song, “Breathe Me,” rose to international acclaim when it was used during the emotional final scene of the Six Feet Under series. And if you’ve been paying attention to the words that you see here on the VH1 Blog, you’ll no doubt remember that she stopped by for a tremendous Live At VH1 set back in September of 2010.
So, after hanging around the fringes of the music scene for the better part of the last decade, it looks like 2011 is shaping up to be Sia’s year: Sia was just named VH1′s latest You Oughta Know artist, an illustrious list that includes the likes of Bruno Mars, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and the Kings of Leon. Be sure and check out the video for her latest single, “I’m In Here,” above, and let us know what you think of her work!
A few weeks ago, we introduced you to Christina Perri, our latest You Oughta Know artist. Luckily for us, she was in town recently and carved some time out of her schedule to perform in our glamorous elevator lobby as part of our ongoing Live At VH1 series. Since we are nothing if not generous, we figured we would share her entire three-song performance with you, the VH1 Blog reader. Above, we’ve got her performing her hit single, “Jar Of Hearts,” and below, her take on “Arms” and “Bang Bang Bang.” Enjoy!
Those of us who work here at VH1 realize how fortunate we are that so many talented musicians decide to stop by our office and perform for us. As a means of sharing the love with you, our readers/viewers, we created the Live At VH1 series, which showcases artists performing right here on the 20th floor of 1515 Broadway. Just a few weeks back, Fantasia knocked our socks off. Then, a week ago Wednesday, the Australian songbird Sia stopped by our humble elevator lobby and took everyone’s breath away with her incredibly powerful, emotionally rich vocals. Above, we’ve got a clip of her new single, “I’m In Here.” And below, you’ll see her singing “Breathe Me,” the song that was famously used a few years back to score the devastating final scene of Six Feet Under. Enjoy!
Just over one week ago, Fantasia popped by the VH1 offices here in Times Square, mere days after she was hospitalized following her overdose. Late last week, we brought you a clip of Fantasia performing “Free Yourself” as part of our Live At VH1 series, and today we’ve got two brand new clips for you. Above, you’ll find Fantasia’s emotional performance of “Bittersweet,” and below you can watch “Even Angels.” Each song is a testament to the strength and resolve she has as both an artist and a person.
Everyone knows that it’s been a difficult couple of weeks for Fantasia. But, as anyone who has ever followed showbiz understands, “The show must go on!” Fantasia, the trouper that she is, popped by our offices here in the heart of Times Square on Monday and performed a few dazzling numbers for us as part of our Live At VH1 series. And, being the good people that we are, we’d love to share them with you!
Today, we’ve got a great performance of the title track from her 2004 debut album, Free Yourself. We’ll have some more cuts for you from this intimate performance here at VH1 next week. Oh, and don’t forget that her new album, Back To Me, came out on Tuesday! Enjoy.
