It’s been a whirlwind month for VH1’s latest You Oughta Know artist Ximena Sari?ana ((phonetic pronounciation: hi-MEN-a sa-rin-YAH-na). She’s been hitting the promotional circuit hard in support in support of her self-titled English language debut; in addition to a well-received performance on the Tonight Show, she’s been delighting audiences all across the country. She was in New York City near the end of last month, when she stopped by our office for an awesome You Oughta Know Live set, and our ace photographer Zev Schmitz was able to trail her for a day while she made the rounds all around town for our recurring photo-based series, MUSIC SEEN. We’ve got the results, as well as a few comments from Ximena herself, for you below!
“These shoes I bought while on tour in Austin. I love finding small off the beaten path clothing stores. These shoes I’ve had for over a year now but are so worn out because I wear them almost every day on tour.”
The 2011 VH1 Do Something! Awards air this Thursday, August 18 at 9 p.m. ET. We’ve already shown you what everyone was wearing on the blue carpet tonight, but we have yet to pass along any of our sartorial assessments of who wore what. So, if your name is Tyra Banks, Adam Lambert, Zach Levi, Demi Lovato, Victoria Justice, Kim Kardashian, Amy Poehler, Charity Shea, Dax Shephard or Olivia Wilde, take a deep breath: You’re either on our Best or Worst Dressed list for this year’s Do Something! Awards. With that in mind, we’d like to pass along our fond “Congratulations! or sincere “Better luck next time!” to all of our finalists.
Dozens of celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Victoria Justice and Adam Lambert, gathered in Los Angeles on Sunday night for the annual Do Something! Awards, an event in which they were able to honor their peers and some of the most devoted young people in the country committed to social change.
The award show, hosted by Jane Lynch and featuring musical performances from Demi Lovato, Foster The People and OneRepublic featuring B.o.B, is taping tonight at the Hollywood Palladium, but will air on VH1 this Thursday, August 18 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. However, you don’t have to wait that long to catch a glimpse of all the celebs in attendance who walked the blue carpet tonight —and a few shots of rehearsals, too!— in our gallery below.
We may not have been able to attend Lollapalooza 2011 ourselves, but the photographers we sent in our stead got some great shots. Yesterday, we shared their fashion roundup of attendees, but of course we wanted lenses be pointed at the stage at least some of the time, and this gallery definitely delivers. Click through for shots of performances all weekend, including shots from must-see sets like Eminem‘s, as well as some great snaps of You Oughta Know alums like Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Lissie, and more!
And our trusty VH1 News team was also on hand, scoring some awesome interviews with the likes of Tinie Tempah, My Morning Jacket, Foster The People, Christina Perri and Ok Go. We’ve got some exclusive video to share with you below.
If you attended the 2011 Lollapalooza Festival this weekend, you had to battle the elements AND a throng of 270,000 people in order to see your favorite acts. However, on Friday night at the W Hotel in Chicago, some of our most famous You Oughta Know alumni gathered for a very special VH1 You Oughta Know Night at the Belve Music Lounge. Retro soul powerhouses Fitz And The Tantrums and electro power poppers Two Door Cinema Club each performed for the fans lucky enough to score an invite (which included celebs like Twilight’s Kellan Lutz, Christopher “McLovin” Mintz-Plasse), and the one and only Grace Potter hopped on the ones and twos for an inspired DJ set. Our photogs were on hand to catch all the action, and we’d love to share the results with you!
Over 270,000 fans (!) braved the elements and attended this year’s Lollapalooza festival in downtown Chicago, which was held this past weekend. Attendees got to enjoy a wide variety of musical performances from the 100+ acts that were on the bill, but as anyone who has ever attended a musical festival will attest, that’s only one of the many benefits of ponying up the 200 or so American dollars it costs to gain entrance. Of course, there’s the whole bonding with your friends thing, there’s the life experience of sharing a collective moment with tens of thousands of strangers, and then there’s the people watching.
Each music festival we’ve attended has had its own signature sense of style. At Bonnaroo, scantily-clad hippies freely roam the grounds in Manchester, Tennessee, and at SXSW, ticketholders and performers alike opted for more “of the moment” fashions. This weekend’s Lollapalooza ticketholders, however, tended to lean more towards a casual hipster aesthetic, which made plenty of functional sense considering the variety of weather conditions (heat, dust, rain) concertgoers had to deal with. Take a spin through our photo gallery for a sample of what people wore knowing that they were going to see and be seen!
You would be forgiven if, at first, you don’t quite recognize the striking blonde above with the feathered hair. After all, we’re not accustomed to seeing pictures of Kesha Rose Sebert —better known as Ke$ha— sans copious amounts of eye shadow, glitter and day-glo face paint smeared all over her visage. However, famed celebrity photographer Terry Richardson was seemingly able to convince the garbage bag enthusiast to trade her patented Hefty Bag Chic style for something that more closely resembles Charlie’s Angels era Farrah Fawcett (if only temporarily) for an as-yet-unknown photoshoot. Nicely played, Terry!

Celebrities who emerge as teen idols rarely stay that way. It’s one of the immutable laws of celebrity nature. They get older, their fans get older, and generally, everyone eventually moves on.
That, however, has not been the case for Jordan Knight, who began his run as a heartthrob way back in 1986 and is showing no signs of slowing down. Whether performing as part of the New Kids On The Block, NKOTBSB, or as a solo artist, Jordan Knight remains culturally relevant to this day not just because he’s a handsome devil or because his falsetto instantly causes listeners’ knees to weaken, but because he continues to record songs that resonate with audiences of all ages.
Jordan popped by our offices here in Times Square not too long ago while on a publicity tour for his new solo album, Unfinished. We asked him to be the latest artist to participate in our ongoing Music Seen feature, and he kindly obliged. Enjoy!—Mark Graham
Throughout its eclectic fifteen-year run, the majority of VH1 Storytellers??episodes have been shot in sound stages in either New York City or Los Angeles. While we certainly are adept at capturing your favorite star-songwriters and musicians in their purest creative form, it?s almost unheard of that we do so on the artist?s home turf. That, my friends, is yet another reason why this season?s Storytellers premiere is SO exciting; taped in Nashville where the band actually lives, Kings Of Leon were able deliver a performance tailored for their adoring local fans. But rest assured: you don?t have to LIVE in Nashville to get a piece of the
pie action. During our journey down South to cover KOL?s regal Storytellers taping last month, we sat down with the band and decided to do a little recon of our own, all in hopes of serving up a few enticing slivers of information for all you KOL fans to sink your teeth into.
Curious as to why we’re using so much food-related imagery?! Well, we?ve already given you a behind the scenes glimpse at the band?s Storytellers shoot, and all week we’ve been releasing clips from the show that airs TONIGHT at 11 p.m. ET/PT. But what we haven?t sent your way yet is Kings Of Leon?s personal list of restaurants and bars that they themselves frequent in Music City. That?s right, we’re psyched to present to you Fare Fit For A King: The Ultimate Nashville City Guide.
Follow along for pictures and descriptions of the places where the Followill brothers ?Caleb, Nathan, Jared and Matthew? like to get their grub on when they’re not on the road.
On Monday, we introduced you to our brand new Posted artist, Miss Christina Perri. And, what do you know, she’s already chiming in with a special message for you, her fans, direct from the road, where she’s opening up for James Blunt.
So, without any further ado, we’re going to turn the floor over to Christina. Take it away!
