Maroon 5 And PSY Battle It Out For No. 1 Spot While Mumford And Sons Land Biggest Debut Album Of The Year

PSY, Mumford & Sons And Maroon 5 Score Big on Billboard Charts

PSY is slowly but surely becoming the next big phenomenon in music with the growing popularity of “Gangnam Style,” which climbed the charts due to its viral YouTube hit. Despite the song’s success it couldn’t ease its way pass Maroon 5‘s “One More Night” to take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. In the closest race between Nos. 1 and 2 since February, “One More Night” kept its No. 1 spot for the third week in a row. “Gangnam Style” was nearly 500 overall chart points away from the coveted head position. Considering how close it was we think PSY should still honor his promise to perform “topless in a place where everyone can watch.” Read more…

Maroon 5′s “One More Night” Is No. 1 On The Billboard, What Happened To “Payphone”?

This week Maroon 5‘s “One More Night” tops Billboard‘s Hot 100, marking the band’s third summiting of the charts, only 2007′s “Makes Me Wonder” and last year’s “Moves Like Jagger” having made it there first. The dippy and slightly ska-inflected “One More Night” is of course worthy, but we can’t help but wonder how Maroon 5′s serious Song of the Summer contender ”Payphone” didn’t make it to the top spot first. According to Billboard, “Payphone” spent 19 weeks in the Hot 100′s top 10, including six weeks at No. 2, but was never able to break through to the top. Was this summer’s batch of singles — namely a little song called “Call Me Maybe” — too hot for Maroon 5 to handle? In order to claim No. 1 this week, “Night” first had to unseat Taylor Swift‘s strong-willed “Never Ever.” And considering the record breaking force with which that song entered the charts, doing so could not have been easy. Why do you think “One More Night” was able to do what “Payphone” couldn’t?

Britney Spears Dances “Gangnam Style” With PSY On Ellen

The internet  is doing it, Big Morning Buzz is doing it, and now Britney Spears is doing it, too. Brit always did have moves.

Last week, Britney tweeted her love for PSY‘s giddy-up “Gangnam Style” dance, suggesting that, “I should possibly learn the choreography. Anybody wanna teach me?! haha.” Ellen DeGeneres saw real brilliance in the thought, and took the opportunity of Britney’s visit to Ellen yesterday to turn that dream to reality.

“Oh!” Britney twanged, when Ellen surprised her with a lesson from the man most up to the task, PSY himself. Now signed to Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy records, he made sure to introduce himself properly before moving onto the lesson. Hands soft, he instructed, and bounce like you’re riding a horse. Britney seemed a little confused that they asked her to go off program, but when the music hit, she nailed the dance like the pro she is — high heels and tight dress and all. As PSY insists, “dress classy and dance cheesy.”

Who will be next to go Gangnam? Mr. Romney, we say it’s your move. Everybody is doing it!

PSY Scooped Up By Justin Bieber’s Manager And Set To Make His VMA Debut

PSY signs to Scooter Brauns Record Label

It was just last month we reported on who PSY is and why his “Gangnam Style” video had 23 million views on YouTube in a matter of weeks. One viral hit, over 100 million views later and the South Korean singer/rapper has signed with Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records, part of Universal Republic. Braun manages Justin Bieber and also signed Carly Rae Jepsen to his label. PSY uploaded his big announcement on Monday showing both Braun and PSY chatting about making history. “And we’ve come to an agreement to make some history together,” said Braun. “[To] be the first Korean artist to break a big record in the United States.” To celebrate the moment the two cheers with South Korean alcohol soju in hand, to which Braun says tastes like rubbing alcohol. “One of two things are going to happen here. Either we’re going to have a great successful career, or I’m going to throw up and the whole thing’s over.” How’s that for a toast? Read more…
