Thirty Seconds to Mars fans have cause to rejoice today. Not only did lead singer Jared Leto win a Golden Globe last night for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, but today he showed up on famed photog Terry Richardson‘s blog wearing nothing but a towel. That’s right, he came dangerously close to showing off his own golden globes… That’s one way to celebrate!
The very first line that is uttered by Miley Cyrus in her new MTV documentary, Miley: The Movement is “I don’t apologize for anything.” So, we’re just going to go ahead and assume that there won’t be any mea culpas forthcoming after pictures of her latest photoshoot with the notoriously raunchy Terry Richardson (who, we should note, also convinced her to fellate a sledgehammer in the “Wrecking Ball” video) appeared online this afternoon.
Puff, puff, pass. YOLO. No effs to give. Lately Rihanna‘s living out each of those mottoes to the fullest in everything she does including her Rolling Stone cover story. And now Lena Dunham will have one more reason to disapprove of bad girl Riri.
Terry Richardson released the photos via his website and they are as expected. Rih shows off her hot tattooed body while blowing smoke from a cigarette that she probably wishes was a joint. Lena better get to clicking the unfollow button on Instagram because Rihanna’s not here to make others comfortable. While critics and her peers stay mad on the sidelines scoffing about her lack of role model behavior, Riri is blowing smoke in the haters’ faces. Read more…
It was a Merry Christmas indeed for Lady Gaga‘s monsters who were gifted with the news of a Gaga documentary. On Christmas morning the larger than life pop star tweeted her 26 million followers the exciting news of her teaming up with renowned photographer Terry Richardson for what’s going to be a grand extravaganza, hopefully very different than Katy Perry: Part of Me.
Heavy as our hearts may be with the news, R.E.M. are still broken-up. They haven’t let their split mean the end, though, and Michael Stipe himself has launched the Collapse Into Now Film Project, divvying up songs from their last album to a group of artists and filmmakers who will create accompanying visuals. Amongst the hand picked group is James Franco, who was given the album’s closer to work with. And boy — tragic starlets, tragically hip photographers, and the ever-congested 405, oh my! — did he deliver.
Here we have “Blue,” a James Franco-directed video that and stars Lindsay Lohan and features the song “Blue,” off R.E.M.’s final album Collapse Into Now. There’s hazy fly-over footage of Los Angeles and sludgy guitars here, Terry Richardson shotting photos of of Miss Lohan in a slinky black tank and Patti Smith singing there — and zeitgeist-y as it may be, the song is very good and the visuals pleasant. And so we let go of the who’s-who’s and how did this happen’s and, lo and behold, turns out it’s a pretty good video! What do you think?
Frank Ocean‘s summer in the spotlight continues today with the release of photos from a new sitting with photographer to the hip and powerful, Terry Richardson. Ocean has joined his Odd Future brethren on visits to the studio past, notably the time they shot their epic and free-whiling “Oldie” video (super cute best-friend stuff, but probably NSFW if you’re without headphones today), and more recently to shoot the XXL spread that resulted in these beautiful and intimate pre-Channel Orange shots of Ocean. Back in New York again last week for a coupling of Odd Future and Frank Ocean shows, the boys sure enough showed up once more at Uncle Terry’s for another raucous free-style session and shoot. Today, Richardson posted some of that day’s outtakes to his Diary. Ocean in his new favorite red, white and blue handkerchief, a shirtless Tyler making mischief, and Earl Sweatshirt back in the mix — Wolf Gang’s all there! And two things are for sure: these boys have a ton fun together, and Richardson knows how to capture it all.
Check out their freestyle below (Ocean comes in at the end, leaving us to wonder what he was up to that whole time! And again, we warn: lots of “mature” language), and browse the gallery of images below or on Terry’s Diary.
She was a young 27 when she passed away a year ago today. Amy Winehouse was the bluesy soulful British singer, songwriter who was already being considered a musical genius, or at least on her way to becoming one. Only two albums in she became a household name–one that rappers collaborated with and singers admired. Her second album Back to Black led to five Grammy awards making her the first British female singer to win that many. There were definitely some troubled days in Amy’s life as she battled with drugs and alcohol. However, in Spin’s rare behind the scenes footage of Amy during a photo shoot in 2007 shot by then-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, her troubled days seem to be washed away with nothing but remnants of happiness. Drake Is Being Sued Over “Marvin’s Room”
Drake is being sued for royalties by Ericka Lee, his ex-girlfriend and ex-collaborator, who is responsible for the “Are you drunk right now?” part on his song “Marvin’s Room.” Poor Drake, no luck with the ladies! [NME]
Chicago Starts A Soul Train Dance Line To Pay Tribute To Don Cornelius
This is pretty touching, so maybe don’t watch if you tear up easily. In Wicker Park, Chicago, residents hit the streets en masse to pay their respects to the late legend, Don Cornelius, the only way they knew how — with a Soul Train inspired dance line. [Pop Dust]
You would be forgiven if, at first, you don’t quite recognize the striking blonde above with the feathered hair. After all, we’re not accustomed to seeing pictures of Kesha Rose Sebert —better known as Ke$ha— sans copious amounts of eye shadow, glitter and day-glo face paint smeared all over her visage. However, famed celebrity photographer Terry Richardson was seemingly able to convince the garbage bag enthusiast to trade her patented Hefty Bag Chic style for something that more closely resembles Charlie’s Angels era Farrah Fawcett (if only temporarily) for an as-yet-unknown photoshoot. Nicely played, Terry!
