Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee + Mick Mars Talk About The Band’s “Final” Tour

“Farewell tours are for those band’s that lie to their fans and come back in about 5 or 10 years.” So says Tommy Lee, drummer for the long running heavy metal band Motley Crue, in the wake of the band announcing their final tour. Final, not farewell. The band is so adamant that their upcoming ‘All Bad Things Must Come To An End’ tour is the absolute last Motley tour ever they’ve signed a binding “cessation of touring document,” which makes it official they will never hit the road under the name Motley Crue ever again. Seriously. VH1 News caught up with Lee and guitarist Mick Mars shortly after their press conference announcing the tour. See what they have to say about their upcoming final act and find out why they have no regrets.

It may seem like a distant memory now, but at the time 1984 was a very foreboding year. Whether in the dystopian George Orwell novel of the same name or the punk rock exploitation thriller Class of 1984, it had ominous connotations and the reality of it wasn’t much better. The threat of nuclear war between The United State and The Soviet Union hovered in the air, especially that summer when U.S. President Ronald Reagan glibly joked “My fellow Americans, I’m pleased to tell you today that I’ve signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes.” Reagan was the perfect And the soundtrack to such a bleak year, from Zurich, Switzerland to California’s San Fernando Valley, was heavy f**king metal. Read more…

11 Heavy Songs By Bands That Weren’t That Heavy

not_heavy_art_1
While Black Sabbath blew the doors wide open for heavy metal, many of their peers (and predecessors) were experimenting with their own signature brand of rock n’ roll. And though a lot of these artists were a little, well OK, a lot tamer than Ozzy and company, they did occasionally venture into some hard rock and even heavy metal territory. Their music helped influence and lay the foundation for future rawk and metal artists. You may be familiar with some or even all of these tunes (damn…really?), but it’s an interesting reminder that although these classic bands tended to favor the mellower stuff, there were a few select songs in their respective catalogues that actually cranked the amps to 11. From Pink Floyd to Chicago to The Beatles, they all had at least one killer heavy tune. Here’s a list of 11 heavy songs by bands that aren’t very heavy. Or are they??? (Dun dun dunnnn.) . Read more…
