Summertime is (finally) here, and with it comes the 5th annual Hangout Music Fest in Gulf Shores, Alabama! How is it more awesome than all of the other open-air fests this season? Well, first of all, this one is ON A BEACH! But most importantly, Hangout boasts an amazing array of the best bands in the biz. The three-day extravaganza will be headlined by musical titans The Black Keys, The Killers, the newly reformed Outkast, and Jack Johnson! But we’re just getting started…
Listen up, fans of The Killers. We’ve finally got a reason for you be glad it’s Monday, because Brandon Flowers and the gang are comin’ atcha with a stream of their brand new single, “Just Another Girl,” right here on VH1 Music!
As we come the end of a wonderful week spent reminiscing about McMansions and Mischa Barton death scenes via the 10-year anniversary of The O.C. premiere, we’d be remiss not to mention the music. For four years, Josh Schwartz and music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas saved you the trouble of making your own collection of tunes essential to the teenage experience with a series of official soundtracks from the show. This new video for “Here With Me,” a heart-tugging ballad off The Killers recent Battle Born, really is something. With it we get the band performing an epic show in an empty concert hall somewhere, and then we also get a second and more uncanny subplot that stars Winona Ryder as a wax mannequin and the object of a beady-eyed kid’s (played by Craig Roberts) affection. Said kid sneaks her Winona out of her museum for a long walk on the beach, a trip to the movies and a home cooked meal, only to find in the end that he too is made of wax. All of this may seem odd, until you consider the video’s director: Tim Burton. How, um, illuminating?
The Killers are only just back and running away already. In the moody new video for their The Boss-cribbing new single, “Runaways,” Brandon Flowers and company return from their two year absence to a great abyss. For a song so big, they really kept the visuals spare. There are stormy skies above, and an empty road passing behind that recalls the flying fret in the Guitar Hero video games. And all the while, the darkness hangs around them like the far reaches of the arenas they’ll soon be filling if the rest of their forthcoming album, Battle Born, is so big as this first single.
Now that we’re done with reflecting on 2011, it’s time to start projecting into 2012. With the reign of Adele perhaps taking a brief hiatus, and buzz building around several newcomers, some legendary reunions and highly anticipated sophomore albums, 2012 is already shaping up to be a year filled with some pretty amazing music. We’ve put together a list of 20 of our most anticipated albums for 2012 — what are you looking forward to in 2012?
Lana Del Rey – Born To Die (Expected Release Date: 01/27): Possibly the most hyped artist of 2011, we’re excited for the record to finally come out so we can stop judging the hype and start judging the material! She landed a highly coveted spot as the musical guest on the January 14th episode of Saturday Night Live, so expect the clamor to grow.
Van Halen – A Different Kind Of Truth (Expected Release Date: 02/07): Aside from a couple of songs that made it onto the band’s 1996 Best Of set, the band hasn’t cut any new material in the studio with original lead singer David Lee Roth since 1984, so anticipation for this project is through the roof. After a blistering reunion set at Cafe Wha? in New York City last night, there’s a good chance the boys still have it in ‘em.
Sleigh Bells – Reign Of Terror (Expected Release Date: 02/14): After Sleigh Bells’ killer debut with Treats, we’re biting our nails to find out whether their sophomore effort will be just as good. If the release of the first single off the new album, “Born To Lose”, is anything to go by, we won’t be disappointed.
Nicki Minaj – Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (Expected Release Date: 02/14): Since Nicki Minaj Tweeted that the new album will feature all new material (as opposed to a re-release), we’ve been painting everything pink in anticipation. Barbz at the ready!

Paris Hilton Is An Expert On DJs And Raves
Perennial party girl and offensively rich human, Paris Hilton, is now also a music expert. She says, “There are just so many great DJs right now… And I should know — I’ve been to over 100 raves in the past year, so I’ve heard every type of music.” Of course you have Paris. [US Weekly]
Good Charlotte rocker (and alleged Nicole Richie babydaddy) Joel Madden has finally put everyone’s mind at ease and addressed the biggest rumor that’s circulating these days: he’s never even heard of the baby boutique Petit Tresor. The boutique was early on cited as the source point for the the near-hysterical speculation as to whether Madden’s waifish girlfriend Nicole Richie is pregant or not. Madden goes on to mention he hasn’t smoked in a week. Thanks for nothing, Joel.
In actual baby news, Killers frontman Brandon Flowers became a dad on Saturday when his wife Tana gave birth to a boy, whose name has not been released. Both mother and baby are reportedly doing well, and Flowers is said to be "thrilled."
