Watch Now: Carrie Underwood Goes VH1 Unplugged

If it’s starting to seem like we’ve got a thing for Carrie Underwood — well, we do. The girl can sing, and she truly blew us all away when she went VH1 Unplugged. Her set included all  (“Good Girl,” “Blown Away”) and the favorites (“Do You Think About Me,” “Before He Cheats”), lot’s of attitude and of course that voice. We’ve already shared a sneak peek session by way of her tremendous cover of Coldplay‘s “Fix You” and these behind-the-scenes pictures snapped while she was here in NYC back in August. Today, we bring you the rest: watch the full episode online here, and then tune-in to VH1 tonight at 7PM to watch the show on air!

“Before He Cheats” is a sleek, slinky thing on record, with guitar riffs cutting sharp and drums crashing in warning. Carrie doesn’t need all that to say “not on me,” though, as she so proved when she played her bold hit stripped down for Unplugged. Looking a tiny bit rock in her little black dress and a lot country with her blonde mane blown out big, Carrie went in with only a trill of violin and an twang of guitar behind her. Really all this song needs is her voice, strong and kicking when she generously suggests “to think next time before you cheat.” It’s these chops that helped her win American Idol, and that have kept her winning in all the years since.

VH1 Unplugged: Carrie Underwood Cures Us With Her Cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You”

We’ve been struck by a bad case of Underwood fever over here at VH1, with her Behind The Music set to air this Sunday and her Unplugged ready to go live the week following, and the only thing that can fix us is this cool cover Carrie did of Coldplay‘s “Fix You.” Carrie and her crew learned the song while in London so that they could “pay tribute,” she said, becasue “they were so nice to welcome us there, and they have so much talent right there.” Carrie’s usual country twanging is as sonically distant to Coldplay’s arena rock balladry as Oklahoma is to London, but here she has managed to turn the song so that it sounds straight from her wheelhouse. Buoyed by strings and with her ever strong vocals promising to “guide us home and ignite our bones” left us chilled.

Be sure to tune-in when Behind The Music: Carrie Underwood premieres this Sunday, September 30 at 9/8c on VH1. And then check back next week when Carrie goes Unplugged on October 2 at 4pm ET on VH1.com and 7pm ET on-air on VH1.

Behind The Song: Carrie Underwood Stretches Her Wings With “So Small”

Are you on a mobile device? Click here to watch Behind The Song: Carrie Underwood, “So Small.”

This Sunday, VH1′s Behind The Music goes long on American Idol winner Carrie Underwood and her ever ascendent country career. Before then, we went Behind The Song: “So Small,” a song that proves that Carrie’s talent goes far beyond her amazing voice.

Carrie Underwood took the country music scene by storm, releasing her record breaking debut album Some Hearts close on the heels of her American Idol win. Early hits like “Before He Cheats” and “Jesus, Take The Wheel” really showed-off her pipes, but Carrie was eager to show that she can write, too. And so into the bullpen she jumped, co-writing four songs for her second effort Carnival Ride, the album’s inspired first single “So Small” included. “You just start talking, what does this song sound like,” she says of the process, making writing a hit sound as easy as riding a bike, though Brad Paisley and others argue otherwise in the above clip. “To start my second album with a song that I co-wrote, and for it to reach number one, it was just really wonderful,” she says. “It made me feel great.”

Be sure to tune-in when Behind The Music: Carrie Underwood premieres on Sunday, September 30 at 9/8c on VH1. Still wanting more? Carrie goes Unplugged on October 2 at 4pm ET on VH1.com and 7pm ET on-air on VH1. Read more…

Carrie Underwood Treats Twelve-Year-Old To His First Kiss

Carrie Underwood really blew 12-year-old Chase away this past weekend when, while performing in Louisville, Kentucky over the weekend, she caught sight of handmade “Will You Be My First Kiss?” sign and called him on stage. “How do you want to do this?” she asked, sure to warn him that, “Just so you know, my husband is somewhere in this building and he might be looking for you later.” Ready to have his world rocked (and apparently ignorant to Carrie’s husband’s pecs), Chase requested without even a hit of hesitation that the kiss be “lip to lip.” And so in the country queen leans, granting the lucky puckered-up kid a very memorable first kiss on the lips. Aww!

Tune-in to VH1 Unplugged: Carrie Underwood on October 2nd to hear, if we’re lucky, Carrie spill about her own first kiss.

16 Musicians Who Could Quit Their Day Jobs

Labor Day has passed and the long days are waning, books and brown bag lunches packed, and it must be that time of the year again: back to school. And your parents are right — even if you spent your summer learning  guitar chords and growing out your hair so that you might be a rock star one day, it wouldn’t be un-rock star like to hit the books hard, too. After all, plenty of artists have put in the work to earn their degree (or degrees) just in case. And so it may be unlikely that these 16 musicians will ever have to rely on their degrees to make a living, but there’s nothing like a hard earned diploma to bring out the shine in your platinum record plaque.

To celebrate their academic efforts, and to inspire yours, we present: 16 Musicians Who Could Quit Their Day Jobs… Read more…

Carrie Underwood VH1 Unplugged And Behind The Music Episodes Are On The Way!

Prepare to be blown away: Carrie Underwood has both a VH1 Unplugged and a VH1 Behind The Music on the way! The shiny but tough country babe broke the good news this morning on Big Morning Buzz Live. “I’m excited,” she gushed, before sharing that she’s a little nervous, too.

We love that big voice and bold attitude of hers and we are eager to see her shine when it’s stripped down on Unplugged. “It’s really cool to have it really be all about the songs and the music and to just get and go and sing,” she says. “It doesn’t need all the extra stuff sometimes.”

And as for sharing her story with Behind The Music, she’s laughed that, “I hope mine’s not seriously boring, because I’ve had such a wonderful life, and it just seems like everything has really happened … and now I get to do the most wonderful job ever.” Which is exactly how we know it won’t be boring! The run from American Idol winner to chart-topper and Grammy winner and everything before and beyond sounds exactly the opposite. We can’t wait!

Carrie tapes her stripped down set later this week in New York, and both Unplugged and Behind The Music will air sometime this fall. And if you check back here, we will keep you up to date with info and sneak peaks until then! Read more…

Song Of The Summer 2012: Your Votes Propel Katy Perry Ahead Of Carly Rae Jepsen!

Welcome to Week 2 of VH1′s Song Of The Summer Countdown, and boy oh boy, we’ve already got ourselves a huge upset in the making!

Propelled by a large number of user votes, Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” overtook the presumptive Song Of The Summer favorite, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe,” as the frontrunner for this year’s crown. In fact, as you’ll see in the chart above, there was lots of movement from where we were sitting at this time last week; 15 of the 20 songs in our chart either moved up or down in the rankings, and three new songs — One Direction‘s “One Thing,” P!nk‘s “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and Carrie Underwood‘s “Good Girl”— entered the chart for the first time!

As a reminder, here’s how our Song Of The Summer countdown works.
