Three Moments From The BET Awards That Outshined The Parking Lot Drama

What a blessing, that the 2012 BET Awards were pre-tapped. Lived in Atlanta on September 29, first word from people who were there was that back-stage tangles between Rick Ross and Young Jeezy and Gunplay and 50 Cent‘s G-Unit had stolen the show, giving the media something juicy to chew on until the show aired last night. And so by the time we sat down to watch the show last night, the music shined totally untarnished by the beef, which seems well behind us. There were a whole bunch of winners (spoiler: Kanye West took home a whopping six trophies), and then at least three onstage moments that were way more fun than all that parking lot drama. In Honor Of 50 Cent’s 36th Birthday: Happy Beef-day!

Happy Birthday 50 Cent! Beef-day

Go shorty, it’s your birthday, we gon’ party like it’s your birthday. Not only did 50 Cent drop 5 (Murder By Numbers) for free today, it’s the Queens rapper’s 36th birthday. Nine years ago he rose to massive fame with his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ at the age of 27. Along with his crazy story of being shot nine times and his distinctive flow from having his jaw wired shut, 50′s success was also partly due to his ongoing beef with Ja Rule that ultimately ended Ja’s very popular career. Fifty’s war with the Murder Inc. rapper eventually simmered out, but 50 saw an opportunity in beef with his peers–if he was constantly dissing others on wax then he’d remain relevant because people would be listening. Thus began 50′s countless diss records and feuds. It’s only right that we celebrate his birthday by highlighting the top 10 beefs of his career. Happy Beef-day, Fiddy! Read more…

X-Factor host and ex-Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has been working on her debut solo LP since 2006 but, apparently, it still needs some work. Fat Joe Tells A Story About R. Kelly Beating People Up
If you can grasp what actually happened as Fat Joe recounts R. Kelly beating someone up between all the expletives and sound effects, let us know. Otherwise, it’s still pretty funny, if not worryingly inappropriate. [The Awl]

Odd Future’s Syd Remixes Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans”

Fight Night: Top Ten VMA Beefs

The Video Music Awards are a celebration of the best music video work that musicians and technical personnel have to offer. They’re also a live event attended by more than a few outsized personalities, all interacting with each other in close proximity. Part of what makes the event so exciting to us is the tension that proximity creates. Sometimes, though, it boils over past professional rivalry into personal beef.

With that in mind, here is a look back at the ten most memorable VMA fights. Will anyone get into it this year? (Pitbull and Lindsay Lohan?) We’ll be tuning in to MTV on Sunday at 9 p.m. to find out.

Watch & Learn: “We Takin’ Over”

Watch & Learn: We peep a video and come up with five things nobody knew.

Boasting more "features" than the shelves of Blockbuster, the video for DJ Khaled‘s "We Takin’ Over" passes the mic between some of the hottest names in hip-hop. T.I.? Akon? Lil’ Wayne? Rick Ross? Fat Joe? Birdman? All present; and all apparently wanted by "The Man." So what happens when you cast rap superstars in what looks like an episode of "Miami Vice?" Here’s what we learned:
