OMA Report: The Flaming Lips Break The World Record!

It is Guinness World Record official: The Flaming Lips have broken the record for the most concerts in different cities in one day. With about forty minutes to spare, the Flaming Lips took the stage at the House of Blues in New Orleans for the eighth and last time to play “Do You Realize?” Balloons and confetti fell from the ceiling, and Wayne Coyne sounded no worse for the wear of his epic journey. “Finally!” he yelled, urging the crowd to sing along. “Come on come on come on!”
“I feel like I could go another f***ing 24-hours,” Coyne joked as he accepted the record from to Guinness World Record officiants with a half-hour to spare. “I think I’ll get that call from Jay-Z pretty soon.”

OMA Report: The Flaming Lips Perform With Karmin, Get Tied Up By Grace Potter
The O Music Awards are full speed along and, 15 hours in, everyone still seems to be having fun! Don’t believe me? Tune in now: the team is currently in Biloxi, Mississippi, poolside with a bunch of bikini clad girls and the Neon Trees, waiting for the Flaming Lips to set up for their sixth performance. Just nine hours, two cities, three more shows, and the record is theirs!
The Lips and friends seem, so far, to be having a blast. After kicking things off with a performance of their own (Show #1) and before bouncing from Memphis to city two, Wayne Coyne dropped in on Sun Studio where Karmin performed a stripped down version of their “Brokenhearted.” Unlike the host, he did not know all the words, but the huge grin on his face suggests that he will soon enough. The Flaming Lips Will Attempt To Make History Tomorrow On OMusicAwards.com
Jay-Z, hold onto your hat, because the O Music Awards kick off tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. ET and that means the Flaming Lips are gunning for your record. Over the next day, in conjunction with the awards ceremony and with the help of a few friends and a bus named “Endeavor,” the Flaming Lips will attempt to best Hov’s record for most concerts performed in multiple cities in a 24-hour time period by playing eight shows between Memphis, TN and New Orleans. Along the way, they will be joined by Jackson Browne, Karmin, Neon Trees, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Grimes, as well as a slew of other artists and hosts.
And you can watch the whole thing, as it goes down. The record breaking attempt and the awards ceremony that will be broadcast on VH1, as well as on our sister stations MTV and CMT; and the full 24-hour record-breaking attempt will stream live on Omusicawards.com.

Let’s Get Ready To Rumble: Wayne Coyne Says He Knew Erykah Badu Was An ‘Unpredictable Freak’
Upsetting Erykah Badu, again, must be the furthest thing from Wayne Coyne’s mind. In an interview with Rolling Stone he had a few choice words about the feud between him and Badu that played out quite interestingly on Twitter. If you don’t dabble in the world of social media here’s a brief recap: Badu and The Flaming Lips teamed up for a remake of Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” Coyne directed the video, which featured Badu, her sister, nudity, glitter and some thick (questionable) substances. Badu initially seemed excited until the video received backlash and criticism for its content. E. Badu took to Twitter to slam Coyne for allegedly releasing the video prematurely and eventually released an official statement telling Coyne to “kiss her glittery a–.” Read more…
