The Top 29 British Musical Acts That Got Snubbed During The 2012 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony

The 2012 Summer Olympics officially kicked off with an opening ceremony conceived by the Academy Award winning British film director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire,
Trainspotting, 28 Days Later). One of the sections of tonight’s broadcast bore the unusual name Frankie And June Say Thanks Tim, a love story that contained what NBC’s Matt Lauer described as “a tribute to the best British musical acts of the last 40 years.” Well, although Boyle and his musical supervisors managed to include a decent selection of bands that could be considered canon-worthy, we’d like to call your attention to this (quite undefinitive!) list of 29 highly respected bands that got royally snubbed (in alpha order*):

Culture Club
The Cure

Dream On: The Top Ten Music Videos That Take Place In Dreams

Ever since the dawn of the eighties when the music video revolution took place, musicians and directors alike have used the medium to unleash ideas and visions that often start bubbling up from the subconscious. When you think about it, this strategy makes perfect sense; since songs rarely have linear plots and generally only run 3-4 minutes in length, it’s can be a challenge to cram an entire “traditional” story into a music video. So videos tend to work best when they use music and imagery to create a mood that’s dreamlike in nature, rather than telling a story that starts at point A and definitively ends at point B.

Despite the fact that a lot of videos rely on dreamlike imagery, very few, in fact, actually literally take place in dreams themselves. However, after taking in Bon Iver‘s lush video for “Calgary” yesterday, we found ourselves really wanting to explore what other videos also took place in dreams. We admittedly fell down a bit of a YouTube rabbit hole, in a good way, and we wanted to share our results with you. So, without further ado, here is our list of the Top Ten Music Videos That Take Place In Dreams.

A woman finds weird reflections of herself as she goes about her day, because it turns out she’s having that dream where she goes about her day?you know, the one where you try to trick your brain into thinking you’re already up. Genesis: Set-List, Tour Dates, and Reissues

When our Rock Honors bash premieres on Thursday night, it will be the first time in many years that lots of Genesis fans are able to see their heroes on stage. So the quesion is, what tunes are they tackling? The mid-80s line-up of Tony Banks, Phil Collins, and Mike Rutherford have a unique rapport, and their spins through "No Son of Mine" and "Turn It On Again" should whet the appetite of anyone planning on seeing them when their world tour brings them to America in the fall. Those fans will also get a kick out of Keane‘s marvelous salute to the veterans with an update of "That’s All."

Those familiar with the superb remastering job that the Rhino label does might want to celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary with the far-reaching, 12-disc Genesis collection, 1976-1982. Between a wealth of rarities and the enhanced sound, it’s hard to resist. Speaking of rarities, check VSPOT in the next couple of days to see the on-line only performance of "Los Endos."

Genesis is a superstar band, right? For decades they’ve made records, and for decades fans around the have snapped ‘em up as soon as possible. VH1 Exclusive: Bam to Host Rock Honors

Airing on May 24th, just in time to buoy you through your long weekend, the Jackass mainstay and star of Bam?s Unholy Union will introduce to the stage this year?s honorees: the lovely ladies of Heart, the sharp-dressed men of ZZ Top, the crazy train that is Ozzy Osbourne and the no-jacket-required stylings of Genesis.
