BRACKET MADNESS: JT, Lil Wayne, Lambert And MJ Face-off In Round Two!

If there is one thing that the four male artists in Round 2 in our latest edition of Bracket Madness have in common, it is that they each swept the floor with their opponent in Round 1. Justin Timberlake said “Bye Bye Bye” to Justin Bieber, getting 81% of the vote to Biebs’s 18%. Kanye West posed a bit more of a challenge for Lil Wayne, but Weezy still won his round with more than half the vote! Daughtry didn’t stand a fighting chance against Adam Lambert, who won with a whopping 77% of the votes. And Oprah’s latest Usher interview did nothing to convince voters, as he lost to Michael Jackson who got 83% of the vote.

Here’s where things get tough … Timberlake is facing Weezy in Round 2 and Lambert is taking on the King of Pop himself. So how do you decide? Aside from following your heart, here are a few facts about each of the artists that may help sway your vote …

BRACKET MADNESS: Do “U Got It Bad” For Usher Or Michael Jackson?

For our latest edition of Bracket Madness, we’re doing the unthinkable by matching up Michael Jackson and Usher. It seems almost blasphemous to pit the King of Pop against his young protégé whose career has been heavily influenced by the former. But here on Tuner, we love doing the unexpected.

There hasn’t been an artist as globally loved as Michael Jackson. Not to mention the fact that he’s recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by the Guinness World Records. His star power is seemingly unmatched. MJ’s music was so great that naming all of the records he’s broken would take a Biblical scroll and hours upon hours that no one has. His 1982 album Thriller is the greatest selling record of all-time. Classic songs like “Rock With You,” “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” and “Billie Jean” transcend generations, making a party full of early twentysomethings dance and sing wildly as if no one else were around. His dance moves (including the famous moonwalk!) have been emulated by some of today’s biggest stars, but no one does it like Mike. And his videos were epic short movies. When an MJ video premiered the family sat around the TV to watch it together. He truly was a once in a lifetime artist. Read more…

BRACKET MADNESS: Vote For VH1′s Greatest Male Artist!

This round of Bracket Madness calls forth the music’s men for a battle to the Greatest. Of all who have done it and are doing it, who do you think deserves the The Greatest Male Artist crown? The decision won’t be easy, but like with Greatest Artist of the 90s and Greatest Artist of 00s brackets before, with your votes and rallying we hope to whittle down a strong field of eight to but one. Who should it be?

Round One faces off American Idol stars Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry; rap giants Lil Wayne and Kanye West; sweet singers Usher and Michael Jackson; and pop gods Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber. Do you prefer the Idol stylings of Daughtry or Glambert? The way Lil Wayne twists his tongue or the ever innovative Kanye West? Justin Timberlake’s “Girlfriending”-ing or Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”-ing? The way MJ hits the high notes or Usher’s smooth moves?

Which of these fellas does it for you? It’s no easy choice, but with your votes it can be done. Voting for this first round closes Wednesday, September 19th at 11 a.m. Polls will then open for the second round at that time, and then close Friday, September 21 at 4 PM. The third and final round of voting opens Friday, September 21 at 4 PM and closes Monday, September 24th at 4 PM, at which point we will crown the Greatest Male Artist! Vote often and check back daily to see who’s in the lead!

2 Chainz Debuts At No. 1 on Billboard Charts

2 Chainz‘s rap game takeover has been a long time coming. The Georgia rapper that had us all screaming, “2 Chaaaaainnnnz” was a coveted feature artist in the way Nicki Minaj was in 2009. Those days are long gone and the wait was certainly worth it. His debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story topped the charts for the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200. According to Nielsen SoundScan the album sold 147,000 copies. For a little perspective: that’s almost 20,000 more units sold than pop star Chris Brown‘s Fortune. Talk about coming out the gate swinging. Read more…

Beyonce Wrote A Letter To Michael Jackson Thanking Him For His Influence

A letter writer consummate, Beyoncé has penned a sweet-as-ever note to the late King of Pop. “When I was just starting out, my first producer used to make me listen to Michael Jackson,” she wrote in the note posted to her Tumblr on the third anniversary of his death, citing a live recording of “Who’s Loving You” that she would listen to “for hours back to back.” She goes on to recall Jackson’s audible soul and unimpeachable swag, and to thank him for the influence he has had on her as a performer. No longer on earthly stages himself, Bey makes it clear that he lives on through her every performance.

“Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut and just let it go,” she writes. “Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist that I am – thank you Michael.”

Our letter from the Queen B is coming soon, we just know it. Until then, read Beyoncé’s full tribute below:

The Top 5 Most Anticipated Billboard Music Awards Performances

Billboard Music Awards 2012 Performances

The Billboard Music Awards may not be known for scandalous surprise girl-on-girl kisses like the VMAs or interesting collaborations like the Grammys, but the 2012 Billboard Music Awards is offering performances by the hottest artists of today. Carrie Underwood, Linkin Park, Nelly Furtado and Kelly Clarkson are only a few of the A-listers hitting the stage this Sunday at MGM in Las Vegas. We’re curious to find out if BMA can pull off a tribute to the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, in just three days. Watching how artists bring their songs to life at a major award show is always exhilarating, but here’s the five singers we’re most excited to see and why.

1. John Legend and Jordin Sparks honoring Whitney Houston.

Finally, a full Whitney Houston tribute. Jennifer Hudson did an amazing job at the Grammy Awards, but we were left wanting so much more. Thanks to Billboard, our wish came true in the form of John Legend and Jordin Sparks (who actually co-starred with Houston in the remake of Sparkle). It’s no easy feat to cover The Voice’s songs for even the best vocalists in the business. We’d love to hear the two sing “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” or “How Will I Know” as they are Houston’s earlier songs that are light and fun. It was announced that Bobbi Kristina and Cissy Houston are making special guest appearances to accept awards on Houston’s behalf. Will the gospel legend sing and take everybody to church? A lot is riding on this tribute, we’re hoping they nail it. Read more…
