Tuned In: The Black Keys Rock Saturday Night Live

Die hard Black Keys fans the world over are wide-eyed in disbelief as the unassuming band is skyrocketing their way to rock superstardom, mainly because we’re just so used to their defiant, organic sound flying ever so slightly under the radar. But the attention is well deserved, as the Black Keys’ dedication to rock’n’roll is completely unwavering, their music consistently inspiring. Since they made meme status with the “Lonely Boy” dancer, it only makes sense that the next logical step is a second appearance on Saturday Night Live. Performing “Lonely Boy” and “Gold On The Ceiling,” the Keys shine, upping the ante for their contemporaries and giving rock authenticity a much needed renaissance. If you like what you saw on SNL, be sure to tune in tonight for MTV Hive’s‘s live stream of the Black Keys in concert from New York City, at 9 p.m ET/6 p.m. PT.

Tuned In: Nickelback Burn Jimmy Kimmel To The Ground (With Music, Not Fire)

We’ve had Nickelback fever since we previewed the band’s video for “When We Stand Together” last month. Nickelback’s performance last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live did nothing to abate our fever, either — with Chad Kroeger‘s raw vocal and a stage literally set alight by theatrical flame throwers, Nickelback burned the house to the ground. With their awesome performance of “Burn It To The Ground,” not because they actually set fire to anything (other than our hearts, figuratively speaking). Nickelback’s roaring, metal sound was decidedly harder than their post-grunge beginnings, and even from behind a screen we couldn’t help but do a sneaky head bang.

Sneak Peek: Nickelback, “When We Stand Together”

Next month, the Canadian rock quartet Nickelback will be releasing their first new studio album in over three years, Here And Now. We’ll be debuting the complete video for the first single off the album, “When We Stand Together,” on Big Morning Buzz Live next Wednesday, November 2. However, to whet your appetite, we were able to get our hands on this special 30-second sneak of the video that’s filled with more lens flares than a J.J. Abrams fever dream. And, we might be way off base here, but the combination of the magic hour footage, swaying wheat grass and majestic views in this video reminds us more than a little of the location where Spike Jonze shot Weezer‘s iconic “Island In The Sun” video. We’ll be sure to ask them if that is indeed the case when they swing by our offices here in Times Square later this week!

Nickelback?s Fortune Cookie Rock: Watch Videos

What would you do if you woke up one morning and found out you had one day left to live? That?s the question Nickelback asks in their latest video. Yes, Chad Kroeger?s voice is always full of raspy drama, creating an ominous vibe, but instead of stressing gloom, the guys give their fans a message of hope about the end of the world – while rocking themselves silly, of course.

The clip kicks off with a bunch of kids darting through the streets. Documenting their every step with video cameras, and buzzing around in secret, the squads look they?re preparing for some city-wide attack. And they are. But as ?If Today Was Your Last Day? unfolds we discover they?re actually spreading an uplifting message.

?Tomorrow is too late.? ?Reminisce old memories.? ?Forgive your enemy.? All sorts of thoughtful prompts are printed on jackets handed out in Times Square, and confetti poured onto pedestrians from above. There?s even a dude distributing cash to the needy. The simple phrases are like fortune cookie messages, intended to remind us of life?s important things. Know what? They succeed. – Lacey Seidman
