LAURYN HILL’S TAX WOES CONTINUE
As if facing three years in prison after being found guilty for not paying back taxes wasn’t enough to make anyone pull out their hair, Ms. Hill apparently owes the state of New Jersey $440,000 in back taxes. Luckily, she has yet to be charged criminally for this particular case. [JUICY]
P!NK IS FIERCE ON THE COVER OF BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
“I felt like I was in this video game and I collected all the gold coins and talismans you could collect — I had to either move to the next level or quit,” P!nk, 32, says on the phone from Santa Monica, Calif.’s Shutters on the Beach resort. “There’s this whole techno takeover going on right now that just does my head in, and I knew I didn’t want to do that. I’d rather dance around and sing goofy songs.” [Billboard]

Already, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” the lead single off of Taylor Swift’s forthcoming Red, has climbed the Billboard 100, broken sales records, and become the anthem of strong-willed girls nationwide. And now, we get word that Taylor will give it the big-stage, live debut it deserves next month at the MTV Video Music Awards! There, she’ll be joining Green Day, One Direction, P!nk and Alicia Keys, which means all three of our strong, VH1 Storytelling women will be representing!
Taylor VMA appearances past have been nothing if not memorable, as she was the first country music star to win the award and of course there was that “I’ma let you finish” moment that so famously followed. And if Taylor’s hair-flipping and finger-wagging lip-synch of “Never Ever” is any indication, this performance too will be a show to be seen. So if you haven’t already, now would be a good time to mark your calenders: September 6 at 8 PM. We-eeeee!
During the last few seasons of VH1 Storytellers, we have been fortunate that some truly amazing artists have taken the stage and shared their stories with us. Earlier this year, Jason Mraz, Norah Jones and Grace Potter blew us all away by opening themselves up and giving us the emotional backstories to the songs in their respective catalogs. This November, though, the VH1 Storytellers franchise is taking things to the next level.
We’re excited to announce that the 17th season of VH1 Storytellers will feature appearances from bona fide music industry superstars Taylor Swift, P!nk, and Alicia Keys. Collectively, these three women have sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and have over 20 Grammys sitting on their respective shelves, and they have more more hits than we can count. We cannot possibly be more psyched to share these sessions with you in November, but before that, we have some even more exciting news: Take it away, Taylor!
In case you missed any of that, be sure to head to TaylorSwiftOnCampus.com to enter YOUR school. Who knows, maybe your vote will be the one that sends Taylor Swift to your school to record her episode of VH1 Storytellers!
And now, here’s the rest of the press release!
Anticipation for P!nk’s The Truth About Love keeps growing and growing. We’ve already adopted the album’s first single “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” as our break-up anthem and gone giddy over the news that expectant mother Lily Allen and P!nk’s cute daughter Willow will be featured on the album. And today, the word gets better still because Eminem and Nate Ruess of fun. have joined the mix, as well! Babies, rockers and rappers — is there no one P!nk can’t work with? Lily Allen, Eminem and fun. — is there no one P!nk is not not working with. Read more…

Welcome to Week 3 of VH1’s Song Of The Summer Countdown, brought to you by our good friends over at Dove Clinical Protection Deodorant. Each week from now until Labor Day, VH1 will be keeping tabs on which songs will ultimately come to define the summer of 2012, as measured by their performance across six categories: the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, Billboard‘s Hot 100, Spotify‘s most-streamed songs, the iTunes Singles Chart, YouTube’s music chart, and YOUR VOTES (which, btw, if you haven’t voted yet, you should totally vote now!).
Last week, Katy Perry outmuscled presumptive frontrunner Carly Rae Jepsen to overtake the #1 spot on our countdown, and the top of the chart remains the same this week. Buoyed by a strong number of votes from the Katycat contingent —only One Direction‘s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Pitbull and Shakira‘s “Get It Started” received more fan votes on sots.vh1.com— Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” is staying put in the #1 position this week. (Subscribe to our VH1 Song Of The Summer 2012 playlist on Spotify!)
That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have some challengers, though! In addition to Carly Rae Jepsen’s summer smash, Flo Rida’s “Whistle” lept up three spots to #7 this week, and the aforementioned One Direction climbed from #17 all the way to #7 with their irresistable hit, “What Makes You Beautiful.” Who will be on top next week? Be sure to check back with us all week for updates, and don’t forget to vote for the Song Of The Summer over at sots.vh1.com! (Oh, and if you want to see how this week’s chart was formulated, check out our super detailed/nerdy chart below.)
Always expect the unexpected from P!nk. Last night MTV debuted the video to the Song Of The Summer breakup anthem “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” from P!nk’s forthcoming album The Truth About Love (speaking of which, make sure to vote for P!nk over at sots.vh1.com). Shot in black and white by director Dave Meyers, P!nk is giving us pin-up Marilyn Monroe! All is well at the quiet picnic until her love interest answers his phone in the middle of their romantic rendezvous. It doesn’t take long for a very feisty P!nk to toss a glass of red wine in his face before walking off. The ballroom dance floor is the beginning of her plan to seek revenge. Read more…
Welcome to Week 2 of VH1’s Song Of The Summer Countdown, and boy oh boy, we’ve already got ourselves a huge upset in the making!
Propelled by a large number of user votes, Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake” overtook the presumptive Song Of The Summer favorite, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe,” as the frontrunner for this year’s crown. In fact, as you’ll see in the chart above, there was lots of movement from where we were sitting at this time last week; 15 of the 20 songs in our chart either moved up or down in the rankings, and three new songs — One Direction‘s “One Thing,” P!nk‘s “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and Carrie Underwood‘s “Good Girl”— entered the chart for the first time!
As a reminder, here’s how our Song Of The Summer countdown works.
