Whose National Anthem Rocked Hardest? [POLL]

Top 10 Rockin' National Anthems

When thrash titans Metallica took the field at San Francisco’s AT&T Park to play “The Star Spangled Banner” last week, they were but the latest in a long line of high energy decibel dealers putting their rough stamp on our hallowed National Anthem. Ever since Jimi Hendrix serenaded the Woodstock faithful that bleary August morning in 1969 with his electric-fried version of “The Star Spangled Banner,” rockers have been figuring out daring different ways to rock Francis Scott Key’s composition in instrumental form. We now present to you the 10 Most Rocking Versions of The National Anthem. Give us your feedback on vote on where you think they rank and remember to vote early and vote often.

That Metal Debate: Top 5 Facial Hair Styles of Rock

There are a few important factors that make hard rock and heavy metal music one of THE best genres in music:
1. Musicians who can head bang and hold a chord
2. The fans (that’s a no-brainer)
3. Facial Hair

I know you probably think we are crazy for even saying that, but can you imagine Ozzy Osbourne with a mustache like Tom SelleckZakk Wylde with a unibrow? Or maybe even KISS with ZZ Top beards? Strange right? (We can only imagine how long it would take to get the paint out.)

Last week on That Metal Show, we were joined by Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) and John 5 who brought nothing less than amazing riffs for the second week in a row as our guest musician. We also paid homage to the rockers with the best facial hair and counted down our TMS Top 5 Facial Hair in Rock with help from heavy metal rocker Marilyn Manson. Here’s our TMS Top 5 list of artists with the Best Facial Hair in Rock:

THAT METAL DEBATE: Top 5 Worst Album Covers (On Great Albums)

Last week on That Metal Show, we were joined by comedian/guitarist Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society) and former front man of Queensryche Geoff Tate, who talked about the betrayal that came with the implosion of the band. Also on our mini stage, we had guest shredder George Lynch joining in on the action.

This week’s TMS Top 5 is different from the rest. Instead of choosing a list based on just the music, we decided to combine music and looks to come up with the Top 5 Worst Album Covers, but the albums have to be great. (We are superficial, we know.) Here’s what we came up with.

TMS Top 5 Worst Album Covers on Great Albums

1. Riot – Fire Down Under

Eddie, Don, and Jim all agree it’s an amazing record, but Riot has had a series of horrendous album covers so we can’t really say we’re surpised by it being #1.  Jim also said it makes him want to club a baby seal. (Don’t worry PETA, no seals were harmed during the filming of That Metal Show).

Road Tales: What’s With the Water?

Our ramp-up to Rock Honors (May 24) always includes revealing chats with the music’s stars. Road Tales focuses on some the silliness that goes down when bands are on tour.

Ozzy Osbourne is known for all sorts of stage shenanigans, but when he’s heaving water all over the crowd and into the PA wiring, he puts a few people at risk. How do you like your rock shows, freezing or in flames? Zakk Wylde explains.
