The rising British soul singer and VH1 You Oughta Know artist for the month of June is proud of his homosexuality, and we’re proud of him! Already this year, Sam Smith has seen major success in the US pop charts, following his triumph across the pond in the U.K. In addition to his incredible year, Sam will be joining the ranks gay, lesbian, and bisexual musicians who serve as beacons for the LGBT community.
Halloween fell on a weekend Halloween fell on a Thursday, which means that our famous friends have been sporting costumes for nearly a week now. During that time, we here at VH1 Music have been keeping our eyes on what our favorite musicians—names like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Adam Lambert, Demi Lovato & more—were dressing up as. We’ve collected some of the most memorable looks—be they spooky, sexy, or straight up scary!—in the gallery above and now we’re turning it over to you, the fans. Which musician WON Halloween 2013? Vote in our poll below!
We’ve loved Adam Lambert ever since we saw him kill it in his very first audition for American Idol all those years ago, so we’re especially sad to find out that he and his long-time love, Sauli Koskinen have split up.
Lambert revealed the two had parted in an interview with SFGN, adding that “Sauli and I remain really good friends, and I know it’s a cliché thing to say. But it’s totally true. I just gave him a coffee and bagel earlier today. He’s a great person and we’ve had an amazing couple of years together. Things have just run their course.”
Whether you’re for or against same-sex marriage, you can’t escape the Supreme Court case rocking the United States right now (thanks, Beyonce’s Tumblr). We’re all for opinions, no matter what they are, so this week’s Face-Off is between Ricky Martin and Adam Lambert – two acts who put their music ahead of their sexuality while remaining…ahem, sexy! It’s so much more than a weirdly tropical Hump Day here in New York City. The funny minds over at Saturday Night Live are letting you–yes, you–make a case for the musical guest you think deserves a shot on the late-night program. No promise on whether they’ll listen, but #SNLMusic Suggestion Day, as you’ve always dreamed, is finally here.

While they present very logical arguments–and we fully support celebrating any anniversary with china–we have a few ideas of our own. Read more…

We’ve already shared some of our favorite behind the scenes moments, a few of our favorite GIF-ed moments and a whole slew of our favorite musical moments from last nights spectacular VH1 DIVAS show, and we’re still not through with our gushing because we just thought everyone on the bill — Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Metric, Keri Hilson, Pitbull, Ciara, Bootsy Collins, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Rowland and more! — totally killed it. And so here we are, reliving our favorite moments last night through photos. Our top twenty moments, in no particular order — because, really, it would be cruel to make us chose between them — look something like this:
1. Kelly that brand new precious stone of hers! Brandon Blackstock sure is a lucky guy.
2. Pitbull didn’t “Stop The Party” until all his dancers were flat-out on the ground.
3. Natasha Bedingfield, Bootsy Collins and Iggy Azalea’s “Grove Is In The Heart” was hands down the evening’s most funky moment. And look how cute these three looked together!
What an amazing evening! The 2012 edition of VH1 DIVAS was chock full of unforgettable moments, ones that you can fortunately watch over-and-over again thanks to the miracle of streaming video. However, for all the show-stopping performances that you saw on VH1 tonight during the broadcast, there were a plethora of precious moments you weren’t privy to that happened backstage and off-camera. To that end, we had some VH1 insiders strategically placed all around the Shrine Auditorium tonight keeping their eyes, ears and camera lenses open all night long for those special moments that our TV cameras weren’t able to capture. And, seeing that it’s the holidays and all, the giving spirit is coursing through our veins and we thought we’d share some of the highlights with you.
So now, without further ado, here are the Top 16 Things That You Didn’t See On TV During VH1 DIVAS:
1. American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert ran out to greet the original Idol, Kelly Clarkson, and the two shared a warm hug just minutes before show time backstage. Adam did a little turn showing off his duds.
2. Speaking of the newly engaged Kelly Clarkson, she showed off her sparkly yellow canary diamond ring to a friend a few moments before she performed “Catch My Breath.” We overheard her saying “He did so good, didn’t he?” and “I was freaking out when he went down on one knee and all.” A clearly emotional Kelly also admitted on her way off-stage that “I can’t believe I almost totally cried on television!”
Adam Lambert took a break from his VH1 DIVAS hosting duties to channel his inner Queen of Pop for smashing performance of Madonna‘s “Ray of Light.” Last week, he told us that he was “really excited” about performing a Madge song because he’s a “proud Madonna fan.” She is “somebody that knew how to put on a number,” he raved, and — oh boy! — did he show that he can do just that tonight. Lambert performed the 1998 hit in a graphic tunic get-up that would certainly make Madonna proud (seriously, we could not have predicted anything so wild as this robe, and will definitely be doing some decrypting in the coming days!), and he managed to capture all the song’s emotions just right. Between this, his best Bowie and that Donna Summer, he might need an entire VH1 DIVAS show to himself next year!
Madonna fans, did he do alright? Lambert fans, were you prepared for that diva-tastic robe? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter using the hashtag #VH1DIVAS.
The music world lost one of its most soulful voices this May when Donna Summer unexpectedly passed away at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. Because you can’t think about Donna Summer without also thinking about dancing to one of her many classic songs, it was of utmost importance that this year’s VH1 DIVAS program paid tribute to the recent Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee and artist who racked up 20 Billboard Top 40 hits over the course of her illustrious career.
Paying tribute to the late, great Donna Summer tonight were VH1 DIVAS 2012 host Adam Lambert, the always amazing Kelly Rowland, and the divine Keri Hilson. Their medley of “I Feel Love,” “Bad Girls,” “She Works Hard For The Money,” (Hilson solo) “Love To Love You Baby,” (Rowland solo) “Hot Stuff,” (Lambert solo) and “Last Dance” was an appropriately energetic tribute to the woman whose disco-infused sounds dominated the charts in the late 70s and early 80s. Donna Summer will always be missed, and while we’re sad that the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame didn’t get around to inducting this legendary performer until after she passed away, we’re very much proud to have honored her this evening and look forward to her RRHOF induction in the spring of 2013.
