Hyper sexualization in pop music is nothing new, but in 2014 we saw the booty at the forefront of sexuality in performance. When Nicki Minaj is rapping about her butt and Beyoncé is getting drunk in love, it follows that that the stage wear for these performances match subject matter with its risqué, bare-all derriere and cleavage.
Music’s biggest stars faced off this year, throwing shade through social media, interviews, and even inside elevators. What were 2014’s most heated music feuds? Snoop Dogg sparked a verbal war with Iggy Azalea before T.I. became a peacemaker and squashed the beef. Jack White accused The Black Keys of hijacking his style, while Bette Midler slammed Ariana Grande’s sex appeal.
Ed Sheeran loves Ariana Grande‘s dirty sense of humor. The two pop stars were hanging out in between performances at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show when Grande, who is currently dating rapper Big Sean, decided to crack a joke about loving “big black balls”. Yes, that’s right– “big black balls”.
It’s no doubt that the Victoria’s Secret Angels are completely mesmerizing at the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Seriously, how can legs actually be that long? But there are rare occurrences that the stellar and sometimes hilarious performance easily distract us from thinking about what these girls eat all day. Like the time when Rihanna made pearl-rimmed sunglasses cooler than angel wings. Or when Adam Levine gave a ginormous public eff-you to former on-again-off-again girlfriend and current wife Behati Prinsloo. With this year’s headliners, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Ed Sheeran, we know there are more of these moments to come.
Let’s be real with ourselves for a minute— “Bang Bang” is probably the greatest pop tracks of the year (if not of all time). So the energy was already running high when Jessie J belted those first high notes during a concert in San Jose last night. But the singer took things to a different level when she brought out Demi Lovato to take Ariana Grande‘s verse on the hit song.
It may sound like fun to perform a concert while lingerie models parade around, but it’s not without hazards. Ariana Grande learned this the hard way yesterday when she had a close call at the 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show!
Ariana Grande released a new Christmas single, “Santa Tell Me,” today, and it’s as “kewt” as she said it would be. The festive love song doesn’t quite show off her vocal prowess as much as her performance at last night’s American Music Awards did, but the pop princess is nevertheless prepping us all for the holiday season. Though “Santa Tell Me” radiates her happy-go-lucky style, we can’t help but compare the single to the untouchable Christmas anthem “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by her idol, Mariah Carey. Is Grande coming for Carey’s long-term reign as Christmas Queen?
2014′s darling pop star Ariana Grande transitioned to full-blown diva at the 2014 American Music Awards, which aired Sunday on ABC. And, trust us, it’s a beautiful thing. Dressed in a sophisticated black dress and a classic movie star hairdo (and that bedazzled earpiece), Grande wowed with jazzed up versions of her hits “Problem” and “Break Free” before going into her new single “Love Me Harder” featuring The Weeknd. Here’s hoping Grande’s team officially releases these renditions. Read more…
Coming off a 1.287 million sales week for her latest studio effort 1989, Taylor Swift uploaded an Instagram video of herself as a token of appreciation to her fans and other humans who decided to purchase the album. (THE. WORLD. IS. SO. GREAT. SOMETIMES.) Taylor expressed her immense gratitude the way that any pop star would – you know, by lip-synching to Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle”. Taylor is so good to us, fam. Expressing herself in the form of hip-hop isn’t new to Tay. Heck, she was even dubbed ‘T-Swizzle’ by T-Pain. While she may be the reigning champ of non-rapping entertainers who have fun rapping sometimes, Taylor isn’t alone. The genre (?) is comprised of so many greats. Surprise! Even Madonna thinks it’s cool.
Sam Smith says his experience “coming out” was a great one, Lorde and Jennifer Lawrence hit it off at the Hunger Games premiere, Nicki Minaj‘s “Only” video director admits to using Nazi-inspired emblems and more on Last Lap.
