Justin Bieber Pranked Us! And Then Threw A Killer Pool Party With Nicki Minaj For “Beauty And A Beat” Video

We’ve been pranked!

Earlier this week, Justin Bieber set off a frenzy when he lamented on twitter that a bunch of his stuff had been taken, including a computer and camera with “a lot of personal footage.” Like a dog whistle, the tweets sent the media scrambling for whatever sorts of goods that “personal footage” might include. “Evidence” of underage drinking and a possible naked-pic surfaced almost immediately, as did rumors of a sex tape. And we were just about to reveal that scandalous generations-old Bieber family “spaghetti and milk” recipe we found, but! It turns out that this whole “stolen” stuff business is but stunt, initiated by Bieber himself to promote this sexy new video for “Beauty And A Beat,” featuring Nicki Minaj.

The video begins with a slate that tells it all: “In October of 2012 three hours of personal footage was stolen from musician Justin Bieber. The following footage was illegally uploaded by an anonymous blogger.” Okay, Biebs, you got us good. Read more…

Ladies Night: Rihanna And Nicki Minaj Lead American Music Awards Nominations

Done up like a peacock in an a curve-hugging purple dress and her blonde locks dip-dyed pink, Christina Aguilera spent her morning reading off the nominees for the 2012 American Music Awards. Because AMA nominations are based on sales, airplay, social buzz and video streams, nominations tend to hue Top 10-centric, and this year proves no exception. Lady dynamos Nicki Minaj and Rihanna lead the pack with four nominations a piece, and will have to duel it out with Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson for  the Best Female Artist: Pop/Rock honor. Otherwise, Drake, Justin Bieber, Usher, Maroon 5 and One Direction trailing closely behind with three nods each.

It’s a little disappointing to see that some of the year’s most exciting acts — like Mumford & Sons, who broke records with their album; like Frank Ocean, who swelled-hearts with his; like Kanye West, who’s forever changing his game –  were left off the list, but we’re happy to take consolation in imagine all the fun photo-ops that will happen when all these superstars join together in one big room.

The award show airs live from Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET on November 18. Check out all the nominees below: Read more…

Topping the charts, launching a global phenomenon, topping the charts, breaking records, and today the New York Daily News informs us that K-pop’s unassuming star Psy is working miracles now, too. Because, babies they just love him! As The New York Daily News has found, babies go “gaga for Gangnam,’” and so parents the world wide have turned to the satirical video to calm their cranky kids. As evidence, they present two such babes: the adorable Benjamin of London, who seems to figure lunch is best served with a little giddy-up; and little Claire of West Virginia, above, who knows that tears are a major “Gangnam Style” faux-pas. It’s hard to say what exactly these kids like — the bounce, the bright lights, the sharp satire of Korea’s nouveau riche — because the parents in the story seems most interested in the fact that it works, and every time. And who could blame them?

Because there’s nothing better than getting your groove on and your kid quiet at the same time, we’ve found five other artists that seem to possess the same magic that calms a cranky baby. Like all the parenting manuals say: YouTube, a real modern parents’ helper!

Not Just For Tweens Anymore, Celebs Skip The Presidential Debate For Justin Bieber Concert

Justin Bieber‘s Believe tour has gotten off to a shaky start, Justin letting bad milk get the better of him onstage the first night — twice. But that didn’t stop a sold-out and star-studded audience from swarming  his show at L.A.’s Staples center last night, potential for vomit disregarded. Everyone from Katy Perry to Khloe Kardashian, Lena Dunham to Heidi Klum showed up, ditching the evening’s wine-and-presidential debate parties to brave a stadium’s worth of screaming tweens for the Biebs. And from what we can tell, they have no regrets. Justin Bieber concerts are no longer the province of the young, and everyone seemed to have a great time: Read more…

Maroon 5 And PSY Battle It Out For No. 1 Spot While Mumford And Sons Land Biggest Debut Album Of The Year

PSY, Mumford & Sons And Maroon 5 Score Big on Billboard Charts

PSY is slowly but surely becoming the next big phenomenon in music with the growing popularity of “Gangnam Style,” which climbed the charts due to its viral YouTube hit. Despite the song’s success it couldn’t ease its way pass Maroon 5‘s “One More Night” to take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. In the closest race between Nos. 1 and 2 since February, “One More Night” kept its No. 1 spot for the third week in a row. “Gangnam Style” was nearly 500 overall chart points away from the coveted head position. Considering how close it was we think PSY should still honor his promise to perform “topless in a place where everyone can watch.” Read more…

Popdust’s No. 1 Pop Star Justin Bieber Reveals His “Favorite Things,” Likes Michael Jackson And Porcupines

Popdust has gone ahead and done the impossible: ranked the world’s greatest pop stars. Sure to account for the inspiring, bewildering, hilarious, and the naughty, they’ve created a comprehensive list they call the Popdust 40, described as “artists whose music we love and love lives we find fascinating, who shoot the videos and tap out the tweets that amuse us and who employ stylists to create the globe’s most interesting hair.” Included in their mix are fan nominated K-Pop sensations Big Bang to 2Chainz, Glambert  to Madonna, P!nk to Carly Rae, Skrillex and Ellie Goulding to Jay-Z and Beyonce, and so and and so forth. The list is thorough and exhaustive, and try as we might, we can’t think of anyone more deserving than these forty. And most of all we like that, instead of simply stopping when they hit Number One (spoilers ahead!), they went ahead and asked their No. 1 artist Justin Bieber to rank a few favorites of his own. Turns out Popdust’s King of Pop is a fan of that other King of Pop! Read more…

BRACKET MADNESS: Which Justin Does It Better, Timberlake Or Bieber?

This new bout of Bracket Madness finds your favorite male artists going head to head — or maybe hit to hit — for the Greatest title, and this first round pits two of pop’s best against one another. When it comes to pop, none have done it — the singing, the dancing, the heart breaking — better than the Justins. Justin Timberlake came first, and Justin Bieber is growing as fast as he can to fill the shadow Timberlake left when he shifted gears to acting and also to create a mark of his own. Surely, both these men are great male artists, but if only one Justin can be the Greatest Male Artist, which should it be?

BRACKET MADNESS: Vote For VH1′s Greatest Male Artist!

This round of Bracket Madness calls forth the music’s men for a battle to the Greatest. Of all who have done it and are doing it, who do you think deserves the The Greatest Male Artist crown? The decision won’t be easy, but like with Greatest Artist of the 90s and Greatest Artist of 00s brackets before, with your votes and rallying we hope to whittle down a strong field of eight to but one. Who should it be?

Round One faces off American Idol stars Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry; rap giants Lil Wayne and Kanye West; sweet singers Usher and Michael Jackson; and pop gods Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber. Do you prefer the Idol stylings of Daughtry or Glambert? The way Lil Wayne twists his tongue or the ever innovative Kanye West? Justin Timberlake’s “Girlfriending”-ing or Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”-ing? The way MJ hits the high notes or Usher’s smooth moves?

Which of these fellas does it for you? It’s no easy choice, but with your votes it can be done. Voting for this first round closes Wednesday, September 19th at 11 a.m. Polls will then open for the second round at that time, and then close Friday, September 21 at 4 PM. The third and final round of voting opens Friday, September 21 at 4 PM and closes Monday, September 24th at 4 PM, at which point we will crown the Greatest Male Artist! Vote often and check back daily to see who’s in the lead!

Tuned In: Justin Bieber, Big Sean and Ne-Yo Show Battle Lasers On America’s Got Talent Finale

This season of America’s Got Talent went out with a great big and certainly talented bang last night, with Canadian Justin Bieber and Big Sean hitting the stage for a monstrous performance of their “As Long As You Love Me” and Ne-Yo battling lasers to show us why he should “Let Me Love You.”

Justin’s stage set looked like O-Town’s “Liquid Dreams” set (or maybe a little like a Bose iPod doc), and — lasers, an army of dancers, and metallic galore — the performance was a real event. Justin has been performing “As Long As You Love Me” since Believe‘s release back in June, and at last he seems comfortable nailing the dance moves and hitting the high notes at the same time. They also let him have a moment with one of the female dancers. #stillkidrauhl, maybe, but Kid Rauhl’s growing up. Read more…

Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” Is The 2012 VH1 Song Of The Summer

Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" Is The VH1 2012 Song Of The Summer

For the last 8 weeks, VH1 and our friends at Dove Clinical Fresh Deodorant have been keeping close tabs on the tracks in the running for the 2012 Song Of The Summer crown. We monitored SIX different data sources —the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, the Billboard Hot 100, Spotify‘s most streamed songs, the iTunes Singles Chart, YouTube’s Music Chart, and votes from you guys, THE FANS, to determine what song will go down in history as this summer’s most memorable song. Well folks, after crunching the numbers, we have ourselves a winner…

A huge congratulations goes out to Katy Perry, whose relationship rebound anthem “Wide Awake” bested all of the competitors for the 2012 Song Of The Summer title! You might remember that Katy took home the 2011 Song Of The Summer prize, too, for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” And, just like last summer, we have a very special acceptance speech from Katy herself, in which she accepts our supremely summery VH1 Snow Cone Trophy and thanks all the Katycats out there.

Continue along for more details about the Song of the Summer voting!
