Grammys 2013: Who Should Win Song Of The Year? [POLL]

If an artist wins the Grammy for Song of the Year, they’ve immediately been granted permission to stunt on everybody for at least a year with “Hi, I’m Grammy winner [insert name], and my song was, well, better than any other song that year.” It’d be pretty obnoxious but the Recording Academy acknowledging your song as the best one for the year is clutch. 10 Famous People Who Don’t Care If Beyonce Did Or Didn’t Lip-Synch At The Inauguration

Beyonce Lip-Synch Controversy

Beyoncé definitely lip-synched during her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Monday’s presidential inauguration. Er, maybe she didn’t? No, she most certainly did. Hmmm. Better ask an expert. The constant back-and-forth over whether one of our most beloved national treasures sang a sacred, patriotic tune live or with assistance from a pre-recorded backing track has hijacked most of our attention at a time when we should probably be focusing on Barack Obama‘s second term, or complaining about the sudden frozen tundra we’re forced to walk across just to check the mail. Everyone has an opinion–and Beyoncé has remained quiet– so if you’re conflicted about what to feel about the Beyontroversy, perhaps your allegiance to some of these famous folks will help you out.

ALICIA KEYS
“The one thing that you cannot doubt is that she can sing. She absolutely can sing,” Keys told Capital FM. “All the rest of the ‘whys’ or ‘whatever,’ we know that she can deliver and she did deliver that song really beautifully.”

BETTE MIDLER
After inadvertently getting wrapped up in a misunderstanding between Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep obsessives following the Oscars, Midler was quick to remind us (and nearly 400,000 Twitter followers) of what’s important: “Ok #beyonce fudged. Get a grip. Men are raping and urinating on young girls in Steubenville Ohio. Priorities, people!”

ARETHA FRANKLIN
“I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather… she did a beautiful job with the pre-record… next time I’ll probably do the same,” the Queen of Soul, who performed at Obama’s 2009 inauguration, told ABC News.

PATTI LuPONE
The legendary Broadway star fielded only the toughest of questions (how could one possibly say something mean about Mandy Patinkin?!) from Bravo’s Andy Cohen. “SHE WAS SINGING LIVE I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS!” she said on Wednesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live.

Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys Put On A Show For Barack Obama

Beyonce Performs at 2013 Obama Biden Inauguration

Yesterday was indeed a day to celebrate American political traditions and tremendous achievements in civil rights, but there were also plenty of fashions to covet and musical performances to look forward to in between the peaceful transfer of power. Capping off a long week of celebrity events in support of Barack Obama‘s second term, Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor had the honor of performing during the official inauguration ceremony, live from the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. Taylor kicked things off with “America the Beautiful,” defending the right to wear fleece in public (and later providing astute political analysis for NBC), while Kelly dazzled and impressed the likes of Senator Chuck Schumer with her powerful version of “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.”

“Wow” is right! Season 12 American Idol hopefuls take note: the AI OG remains the gold standard.

VH1 DIVAS Behind The Scenes: The Top 16 Things You Didn’t See On TV

VH1 DIVAS Behind The Scenes

What an amazing evening! The 2012 edition of VH1 DIVAS was chock full of unforgettable moments, ones that you can fortunately watch over-and-over again thanks to the miracle of streaming video. However, for all the show-stopping performances that you saw on VH1 tonight during the broadcast, there were a plethora of precious moments you weren’t privy to that happened backstage and off-camera. To that end, we had some VH1 insiders strategically placed all around the Shrine Auditorium tonight keeping their eyes, ears and camera lenses open all night long for those special moments that our TV cameras weren’t able to capture. And, seeing that it’s the holidays and all, the giving spirit is coursing through our veins and we thought we’d share some of the highlights with you.

So now, without further ado, here are the Top 16 Things That You Didn’t See On TV During VH1 DIVAS:

1. American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert ran out to greet the original Idol, Kelly Clarkson, and the two shared a warm hug just minutes before show time backstage. Adam did a little turn showing off his duds.

2. Speaking of the newly engaged Kelly Clarkson, she showed off her sparkly yellow canary diamond ring to a friend a few moments before she performed “Catch My Breath.” We overheard her saying “He did so good, didn’t he?” and “I was freaking out when he went down on one knee and all.” A clearly emotional Kelly also admitted on her way off-stage that “I can’t believe I almost totally cried on television!”
