Adam Lambert is just like us! No, really. Okay, so, we’re not hostingVH1 Divas, selling multi-platinum records or breaking glass with our voices. But, when it comes to recalling music lyrics, Adam has the same problem we do: “I forget the words to my own songs!”
Adam tested his self-proclaimed forgetfulness in our “Name That Divas’ Song” game. He read lines from well-known hits by Whitney Houston, Donna Summer and Kelly Rowland then tried to match the lyrics to the song and artist. How did he do? See for yourself. And watch Divas live Sunday, December 16 9PM/8C to see if Adam got the words right as show host and performer.
Ten years since “Miss Independent” won the American Idol crown and Kelly’s still delivering power vocals that leave us speechless. Her fierce penchant for keeping it real while being super endearing makes it almost feel like we’re totally estranged best friends. Get a little closer to Kelly with me on December 16 at 9PM/8C as we watch her smash another performance like only she can. Read more…

NEW YORK, NY –November 29, 2012 – VH1’s beloved, popular franchise “VH1 Divas” announced today additional performers to join this year’s dance music tribute. Did you know that Kelly Clarkson wanted to be a back-up singer? No, we didn’t either, and it’s hard to imagine her anything less than a star she is today. But she insists that ten years later she still doesn’t “fit in most environments in this industry.” “There are prettier girls or oh, there are more talented girls, or oh, there are always more things that people will tell you,” she explained when we sat down with her in LA. “To all those people, like I was totally one of those kids, like that people kind of were like, oh you’re obviously never going to make it.” And so she resolved instead to hang behind the scenes, where she could flex that gargantuan voice of hers and keep out of the spotlight.
Of course, things worked out otherwise: “Like, I love singing. You know, that’s what I love to do, so but, and ya know, life had different plans for me … People just have to be ready for whatever life is gonna present you. And embrace it, whatever that is.” And so she advices young or up and coming stars to make sure they are doing it for the right reason, because, she says, if “it’s innate in you, you know, you just feel like it’s your purpose. Like, I just feel like that can’t be wrong.”
Forget that American Idol win, the records gone multiple times platinum and Greatest Hits — Chapter One collection, her duets with Reba McEntire and Vince Gill and music’s most esteemed; more than anything else her gargantuan voice has earned her, Kelly Clarkson admitted to us when we spoke with her in LA last week that she counts falling in love as her biggest accomplishment to date. “Prepare yourself,” she said, warning that things were about to get “really cheesy.” “My biggest accomplishment has nothing to do with my work, it’s finding love. I never thought it existed or was going to happen, I never thought I would be this happy,” she says. “The high from a Grammy does not compare, to even close, to how you feel when you’re in love. You float. I’m so cheesy. Sh*t.” All together now?
American Idol‘s longest sitting judge, Randy Jackson, appropriately introduced Kelly Clarkson tonight at the American Music Awards. Clarkson performed a medley of her biggest hits ever — “Miss Independent,” “Since U Been Gone,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Catch My Breath” — in front of a fake panel of judges and with a bib boasting her winning American Idol contestant number, 2311. There were also lots of feathers and sequins on her dress and a pillow fight seemed to break out during “Since U Been Gone,” though we hardly noticed so captivated by her belting as we were. Not many can sing like Kelly and her Chapter One really was a great one — let’s send her to the next round?
At last, the third of Kelly Clarkson‘s three new songs from her forthcoming Greatest Hits–Chapter One, out November 19th, has leaked. First came the gripping “Catch My Breath,” then “No Rush,” a slow burning duet with country OG Vince Gill; and today “People Like Us,” a throbbing outsiders anthem, makes three. Clarkson’s catalog is not short this sort of inspiro-pop songs — “Stronger,” “Breakaway,” and we thought “Catch My Breath”was pretty inspiring, for three — but “People Like Us” finds Clarkson cuing her inner Lady Gaga and belting “Born This Way” levels of encouragement.
Kelly Clarkson is a lovely lady of the elements in her new video for “Catch My Breath,” the first single from her upcoming Greatest Hits–Chapter One compilation, which is finally out next Tuesday. The video’s premise is pretty simple, as it finds Kelly looking extra-svelte in a floor length dress and with her new bottle-blonde hair, calling forth wind, water and fire with her voice so powerful. No one can get her down, it’s all so simple now. Oh mighty Idol, hear ye roar!
Katy Perry was a show stopper last night. And not because of her performance. The celebrity endorsements for the presidential election are rolling in with the election only weeks away. President Obama has racked up his share of artist/celebrity endorsements including staunch supporter, Katy Perry. Perry showed her support by performing hits like “Teenage Dream,” “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake” at the president’s rally in Las Vegas last night. The president shouted out the pop singer and her grandmother who is a long term resident of Nevada. What an early birthday gift for Ms. Perry who turns 28 today. She tweeted, “So tonight was a great night! The PRESIDENT gave grandma and I unforgettable shout outs & now I am officially 28! Best. birthday. ever.” Read more…
