Kelly Clarkson found love in a hopeFUL place. Before Sunday’s VH1 DIVAS rehearsal, the singer excitedly tweeted her engagement to Brandon Blackstock. Later in the evening, she delivered a lively performance of “Catch My Breath” from her recent album, Greatest Hits: Chapter One. But before any of the DIVAS hit the stage, celebrities congratulated Clarkson on her engagement while working the red carpet.
While some celebrities kept their congratulatory words brief, others offered funny advice. Our favorite is Jordin Sparks‘ reaction when asked to give the couple some marital advice. Check out the best quotes from VH1′s video of celebrities congratulating the newly engaged singer. Read more…
We’ve already shared some of our favorite behind the scenes moments, a few of our favorite GIF-ed moments and a whole slew of our favorite musical moments from last nights spectacular VH1 DIVAS show, and we’re still not through with our gushing because we just thought everyone on the bill — Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Metric, Keri Hilson, Pitbull, Ciara, Bootsy Collins, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Rowland and more! — totally killed it. And so here we are, reliving our favorite moments last night through photos. Our top twenty moments, in no particular order — because, really, it would be cruel to make us chose between them — look something like this:
1. Kelly that brand new precious stone of hers! Brandon Blackstock sure is a lucky guy.
…and she showed of her powerful and Idol-winning pipes. We are so glad she didn’t settle with a career as a backup singer.
2. Pitbull didn’t “Stop The Party” until all his dancers were flat-out on the ground.
3. Natasha Bedingfield, Bootsy Collins and Iggy Azalea’s “Grove Is In The Heart” was hands down the evening’s most funky moment. And look how cute these three looked together!
What an amazing evening! The 2012 edition of VH1 DIVAS was chock full of unforgettable moments, ones that you can fortunately watch over-and-over again thanks to the miracle of streaming video. However, for all the show-stopping performances that you saw on VH1 tonight during the broadcast, there were a plethora of precious moments you weren’t privy to that happened backstage and off-camera. To that end, we had some VH1 insiders strategically placed all around the Shrine Auditorium tonight keeping their eyes, ears and camera lenses open all night long for those special moments that our TV cameras weren’t able to capture. And, seeing that it’s the holidays and all, the giving spirit is coursing through our veins and we thought we’d share some of the highlights with you.
So now, without further ado, here are the Top 16 Things That You Didn’t See On TV During VH1 DIVAS:
1. American Idol alumnus Adam Lambert ran out to greet the original Idol, Kelly Clarkson, and the two shared a warm hug just minutes before show time backstage. Adam did a little turn showing off his duds.
2. Speaking of the newly engaged Kelly Clarkson, she showed off her sparkly yellow canary diamond ring to a friend a few moments before she performed “Catch My Breath.” We overheard her saying “He did so good, didn’t he?” and “I was freaking out when he went down on one knee and all.” A clearly emotional Kelly also admitted on her way off-stage that “I can’t believe I almost totally cried on television!”
What a weekend it’s turning out to be for VH1 DIVAS performer Kelly Clarkson! Yesterday, she revealed on Twitter that her BF of over one year, Brandon Blackstock, had just popped the question (and, we should mention, gave her a gorgeous yellow canary diamond ring).
Being the all-around pro that she is, she then headed over to rehearsals for VH1 DIVAS, where she wowed the room with a stunning rendition of her new song “Catch My Breath,” the lead single off her new collection, Greatest Hits: Chapter One. After getting some much needed rest overnight, she just turned in an AMAZING performance of “Catch My Breath,” one that’s already receiving rapturous raves on Twitter and nearly brought the house down at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Moments before heading out on stage in a stunning black, red and green gown, she shared a warm, backstage hug with her American Idol compatriot Adam Lambert.
This was Kelly’s third time performing on VH1 DIVAS; she first appeared on our 2009 show, and then she also lent her outstanding vocal chops to last year’s VH1 DIVAS Celebrates Soul show. We’re super thrilled that she was able to make the time to perform on the show again this year, and we really hope that we can get her to agree to perform at next year’s show, too (and the one after that, and the one after that, too…).
VH1 DIVAS performer Kelly Clarkson is engaged to her boyfriend of a year, Brandon Blackstock. She announced the news at Twitter early yesterday then promptly showed up to rehearsals where we all oooo’d and ahhhh’d over her new jewelry. Believe me when I say it is more gorgeous in person than the photo of the canary diamond Kelly tweeted afterward! Looks like Reba McEntire‘s step-son knows how to make sure a girl won’t “Walk Away.”
Watch Kelly’s “Catch My Breath” performance tonight live at 9PM/8C, while we try to keep from passing out over the size of that ring. Congrats, Kelly!
Adam Lambert is just like us! No, really. Okay, so, we’re not hosting VH1 Divas, selling multi-platinum records or breaking glass with our voices. But, when it comes to recalling music lyrics, Adam has the same problem we do: “I forget the words to my own songs!”
Adam tested his self-proclaimed forgetfulness in our “Name That Divas’ Song” game. He read lines from well-known hits by Whitney Houston, Donna Summer and Kelly Rowland then tried to match the lyrics to the song and artist. How did he do? See for yourself. And watch Divas live Sunday, December 16 9PM/8C to see if Adam got the words right as show host and performer.
Grab your inhalers Kelly Clarkson fans, because we have it on good authority that she will be throwing down a live version of her latest single “Catch My Breath” on VH1 Divas Sunday. Anyone who saw her perform the midtempo dance track on the American Music Awards, caught her brilliant VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul sets last year (ahem, she killed it wearing a cast on her foot) or watched her Unplugged gets why this is a BFD.
Ten years since “Miss Independent” won the American Idol crown and Kelly’s still delivering power vocals that leave us speechless. Her fierce penchant for keeping it real while being super endearing makes it almost feel like we’re totally estranged best friends. Get a little closer to Kelly with me on December 16 at 9PM/8C as we watch her smash another performance like only she can. Read more…

NEW YORK, NY –November 29, 2012 – VH1’s beloved, popular franchise “VH1 Divas” announced today additional performers to join this year’s dance music tribute. Kelly Clarkson, Melanie Fiona, Metric and Pitbull will join VH1’s dance party, along with Havana Brown as House DJ. Airing live from the L.A. Shrine Auditorium “VH1 Divas” will be hosted by Adam Lambert on Sunday, December 16 at 9PM/8c on VH1.
Did you know that Kelly Clarkson wanted to be a back-up singer? No, we didn’t either, and it’s hard to imagine her anything less than a star she is today. But she insists that ten years later she still doesn’t “fit in most environments in this industry.” “There are prettier girls or oh, there are more talented girls, or oh, there are always more things that people will tell you,” she explained when we sat down with her in LA. “To all those people, like I was totally one of those kids, like that people kind of were like, oh you’re obviously never going to make it.” And so she resolved instead to hang behind the scenes, where she could flex that gargantuan voice of hers and keep out of the spotlight.
Of course, things worked out otherwise: “Like, I love singing. You know, that’s what I love to do, so but, and ya know, life had different plans for me … People just have to be ready for whatever life is gonna present you. And embrace it, whatever that is.” And so she advices young or up and coming stars to make sure they are doing it for the right reason, because, she says, if “it’s innate in you, you know, you just feel like it’s your purpose. Like, I just feel like that can’t be wrong.”
