Daughtry swung by VH1′s Big Morning Buzz to treat us to an intimate performance this morning. Just back from some magical looking “Dune Smashing” adventures in Dubai, the guys looked fresh and tan and sounded more than “something good.” They performed “The Start Of Something Good,” the latest single off of their album Break The Spell, but they stripped it down to just acoustic guitars so that it felt especially intimate when Chris sings, “I’m starting to believe that this could be the start of something good.” Daughtry can rock a big arena as hard as anyone, and they can fill a tiny space just as well. What do you think of Daughtry stripped?
One thing that’s for sure is that it takes more than just a little bit of talent or luck to make it to the Top Ten on American Idol. Year in and year out, the show has churned big stars who have been super successful in the music industry, whether or not they actually won the show. No worse for their early exits, Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert are two such Idol alumni who have proven themselves winners beyond the competition, racking up album sales and Grammy nods galore. Daughtry and Lambert have already proven themselves worthy competitors on Idol, but how will they fare in the battle for VH1′s Greatest Male Artist? This first round of voting pits the two Idol alums against each other, but only one can move on to the next round. Who should it be? Read more…
This round of Bracket Madness calls forth the music’s men for a battle to the Greatest. Of all who have done it and are doing it, who do you think deserves the The Greatest Male Artist crown? The decision won’t be easy, but like with Greatest Artist of the 90s and Greatest Artist of 00s brackets before, with your votes and rallying we hope to whittle down a strong field of eight to but one. Who should it be?
Round One faces off American Idol stars Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry; rap giants Lil Wayne and Kanye West; sweet singers Usher and Michael Jackson; and pop gods Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber. Do you prefer the Idol stylings of Daughtry or Glambert? The way Lil Wayne twists his tongue or the ever innovative Kanye West? Justin Timberlake’s “Girlfriending”-ing or Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”-ing? The way MJ hits the high notes or Usher’s smooth moves?
Which of these fellas does it for you? It’s no easy choice, but with your votes it can be done. Voting for this first round closes Wednesday, September 19th at 11 a.m. Polls will then open for the second round at that time, and then close Friday, September 21 at 4 PM. The third and final round of voting opens Friday, September 21 at 4 PM and closes Monday, September 24th at 4 PM, at which point we will crown the Greatest Male Artist! Vote often and check back daily to see who’s in the lead!

Last week, Phillip Phillips became our new American Idol. As confetti fell and bright lights shone upon his face —one that doesn’t look much different from last year’s winner, Scotty McCreery— a dark, Sasquatch-sized monster peaked through the curtains of the Kodak Theater.
The creature has no name, but is commonly referred to as the American Idol Shadow. Besides a few select performers, the Shadow haunts winners, losers, runners-up and even judges. Read more…
We’ve all been there: You see a pretty girl at a sidewalk café, but before you can muster up the nerve to give her your digits, she abruptly takes off, which then leads you to totally ignore some friends of yours, nearly get run over by a blue haired grandmother while jaywalking, and finally commandeer a tasty Mustang so you can chase the girl down. Wait, that’s never happened to you? Then your name must not be Chris Daughtry.
Daughtry’s new music video for “Outta My Head”, the third single off the Breaking The Spell LP, is a real hoot. Directed with verve by Shane C. Drake, the video’s got something for everyone: a hot babe, a renegade hero (Daughtry, duh!), a car chase through the freeways and sidestreets of Los Angeles, a healthy dose of intrigue, a reminder that chivalry is not dead, and even a surprise plot twist! It’s one part “Bittersweet Symphony”, one part Drive, and all parts awesome.
If you liked this video but wish you could watch it in high-definition on your flatscreen while sitting on your couch, you’re in luck: Tune into this weekend’s Top 20 Video Countdown to catch the television premiere of Daughtry’s “Outta My Head” video.
VH1 is getting ready for a chilly winter by cozying up with some good tunes; to wit, check out our neat new promo video for the holiday season. Set to the sounds of The Black Keys‘ “Lonely Boy,” the video is a fast-paced, energetic montage of all your favorites from You Oughta Know‘s Bruno Mars to Daughtry. The best part is watching the stars transform from humans into illuminated cartoons — our favorite is “Countdown” Beyoncé finger clicking as a fluorescent illustration.

Daughtry visited our New York offices to hang out and perform as part of VH1′s Top 20 Live (all the while being captured on film by our photographer Lauren Weissler). The band played an awesome acoustic set, including a raw, powerful cover of The Black Crowes’ “She Talks To Angels”. And they also gave us sparkling renditions of their own songs, in an atmospheric, intimate setting. One of your favorites was their new single, “Crawling Back To You,” which you can watch below.
As part of VH1′s Top 20 Live series, Daughtry recently performed an intimate acoustic set at our New York City offices. Covering the Black Crowes classic “She Talks To Angels,” Daughtry stayed true to the original, in what was an emotive, moving performance. Powerful and heartfelt, the gravelly vocal translated the Black Crowes’ sentiment perfectly, while the acoustic instrumental offered a pared back version of the song, allowing the earnest lyricism to shine. Daughtry also performed some other songs for us, including their new single “Crawling Back To You,” and all we can say is that they were just as magical as their wonderful cover, but you’ll just have to watch this space… We’ll be posting more Daughtry live performance videos for your listening and viewing pleasure this week!
