Grace Potter Sees “Stars” On Big Morning Buzz Live

This morning, Grace Potter (sans the Nocturnals) broke from her tour to drop by Big Morning Buzz Live once again to talk share Grace’s new Grace Under Fire chocolate bars and to perform a stripped down and particularly stunning version of “Stars.”

“Stars” is one of The Lion the Beast the Beat‘s more solemn tracks, with a piano line so languid and Potter singing about on of Potter’s childhood idols who “always did take it a little bit too far,” as she recalled during their VH1 Storytellers. It’s the sort of song that sits heavy in the gut, but she insists that the tears it inevitably summons not be she for her sake. “As much as I wrote it for myself about a friend who I lost, one of my favorite things about the song is seeing how other people react to it,” she told Carrie Keagan this morning. “I am glad to get it out their to the world.” And though we might have something in our eye after watching this clip, we too are feeling very glad that she got this song out into the world.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Promise To “Never Go Back” On Jimmy Kimmel

Our favorites Grace Potter and the Nocturnals burned the midnight oil on the late night circuit last night, making promises to “Never Go Back” on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Potter has called this cut off their new record The Lion The Beast The Beat “one of those great rock and roll moments”, and on a stage set like a dark basement rock club — complete with red lights and But Light banners — that rock and roll cool rings extra loud. Riveting with her blonde hair whipping along with the come-hither guitar riffs, Potter did double duty on her Flying V guitar and vocals while the Nocturnals behind her kept energy high enough to keep us up all night.

And if that left you yearning for more, you are in luck! Hop on over to Jimmy Kimmel’s website to see their bonus performance of “Turntable.”

OMA Report: The Flaming Lips Perform With Karmin, Get Tied Up By Grace Potter

The O Music Awards are full speed along and, 15 hours in, everyone still seems to be having fun! Don’t believe me? Tune in now: the team is currently in Biloxi, Mississippi, poolside with a bunch of bikini clad girls and the Neon Trees, waiting for the Flaming Lips to set up for their sixth performance. Just nine hours, two cities, three more shows, and the record is theirs!

The Lips and friends seem, so far, to be having a blast. After kicking things off with a performance of their own (Show #1) and before bouncing from Memphis to city two, Wayne Coyne dropped in on Sun Studio where Karmin performed a stripped down version of their “Brokenhearted.” Unlike the host, he did not know all the words, but the huge grin on his face suggests that he will soon enough. (Watch the video above.)

VH1 Storytellers: Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Has The “Medicine” We Want

Grace Potter of Grace Potter & The Nocturnals really does have the medicine that everyone wants; and this devastatingly good outtake of “Medicine” from their VH1 Storytellers session that aired tonight (PS: If you missed it, you can watch it online right now!) is everything that’s got us spinning. Over classic rock drum rolls and a come-hither guitar hook, Potter first weaves an alternative world wherein a gypsy woman with dark brown eyes and long black hair has put a spell on her man. “She’s crossing me with magnetic sand / She hypnotizes with her mojo hand,” she wails. Then, two-thirds of the way through, voice hushed, she shares her plan to take the other woman down “deep in the night, when no one’s around” and off we go!

The whole band comes together at the drums for an epic precision-jam break-down, from which Potter returns even more powerful than before. “I’ve got the medicine,” she shrieks as the song returns, even bigger and badder than before. How, really, could anyone compete with a vocalist and performer as riveting as Potter?

It’s eight-minutes long, but really, not long enough. And so it’s good that there is more where that came from.

VH1 Storytellers Stars Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Will “Never Go Back”

Here at VH1, we are letting Grace Potter & The Nocturnals drive us into the weekend.

This morning, the band dropped in Big Morning Buzz Live. Performing “Never Go Back,” the first single off of their fantastic The Lion the Beast the Beat. The song, as Potter has explained, was written with The Black Keys‘ Dan Auerbach in 45 minutes and is “one of those great rock and roll moments that I’ll never forget.”And probably neither will we, thanks to Potter’s cooly powerful vocals and those almost dangerous sounding guitars. Alive with rock and roll and glamor, their performance has us amped for the weekend when we will never go back to work no more (until at least Monday).

And tonight, you’ll want not to miss VH1 Storytellers: Grace Potter & The Nocturnals when it premiers tonight at 11 p.m. ET/PT. Check out the sneak-peak of them playing “Never Go Back” below and you’ll see why.

Music Seen: Grace Potter & The Nocturnals Rock The Socks Off Storytellers

While Grace Potter & the Nocturnals have been melting the faces off audiences all over the country for a decade, they didn’t hit the mainstream until last year’s sexy single “Paris Ooh La La.” From their start on the jam band circuit to being a VH1 You Oughta Know artist in 2010 to collaborating with The Black KeysDan Auerbach on their latest album The Lion The Beast The Beat, the tight-knit, fun-loving, ridiculously talented band has plenty of stories to tell.

As a GPN superfan, it was a test in my professionalism to contain my excitement as I trailed them all day, camera in tow, from the Lucerne Hotel on NYC’s Upper West Side to Metropolis Studios in Harlem for rehearsals and what turned out to be one hell of a rock show. Insidery highlights of the day included Grace singing Nicki Minaj‘s “Starships” en route to the taping, her gushing about a recent splurge on a hot plate for her gourmet tour bus cooking, drummer Matt Burr revealing his colorful sock fetish, and the enthusiasm when Grace revealed new album art to bandmates Benny Yurco, Scott Tournet, and new bassist Michael Libramento. Below you can take a sneak peek at Grace prepping for the show, the gorgeous Storytellers set, some goofy backstage antics, and of course, plenty of rockin’ out goodness.

Be sure to tune into VH1 Storytellers: Grace Potter & the Nocturnals on June 15th at 11 p.m. ET/PT, but for now, please enjoy the latest entry in our ongoing photographic series, Music Seen!
