President Obama Calls For Peace At The American Idol Judges’ Table, Gets An Endorsement From Jay-Z

Should a pop culture question be thrown into the pit during tonight’s town-hall style debate, Barack Obama will be well prepared. In a week spent on the trail and with all his presidential duties, the President found time to mediate the ongoing Idol feud and to woo Jay-Z. And here we are, still trying to find time to catch up on Homeland!

On air with Miami radio host Michael Yo this week, the president broke from his usual refrains — “the economy, we’ll fix that,” and so on — to take a question about the current state of American Idol affairs. “I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident,” he said when asked if he might repair Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey‘s tempestuous relationship in his second term. “I’m all about bringing people together, working for the same cause. I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not backwards.” Read more…

Frank Ocean, Jay-Z, Pharrell in the Studio Together

Now that Pharrell has teased the potential of an epic collaboration between himself, Frank Ocean and Jay-Z, they must deliver nothing short of magic. Yesterday evening when Pharrell tweeted a photo of the three kings in the studio together the Internet went bonkers. “Yessur, in the studio with @S_C_ and @frank_ocean. pic.twitter.com/OrYHz0t0,” he tweeted. Pharrell’s one of the hottest producers in the game. Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange was arguably one of the best records of the year so far. And Jay-Z? Just ending his sold out eight concert series at Brooklyn’s new Barclays Center, this guy has had the rap game on lock for over a decade now. Read more…

Jay-Z Brings Out Special Surprise Guest Beyoncé For Final Barclays Center Show

Jay-Z christened Brooklyn’s new Barclay’s Center right. Ahead of his eight-concert opening run, he told Rolling Stone that there wouldn’t be any guests because, “This is my one chance to be selfish. Can’t I? Can’t I be selfish? Thank you.” Though Big Daddy Kane and Memphis Bleek both touched down early in the run, he mostly kept true to his plan, taking the stage each night with only a shining gold bottle of Ace Campaign — to be poured out for Biggie during “Juicy” — for company. Because, when you own the place! There was still hope that Jay, on the eighth and final night and with all the world watching on YouTube, would call out the big guns. And he did, he brought out the biggest he’s got: his wife.

After doing “Bonnie and Clyde ’03″ by his lonesome, Jay stepped aside and out from a glowing tunnel walked — strutted, rather, hips swinging wide as the beat to “Diva” picked up — none-less-than Beyoncé. Keeping brand in all black leather, her custom Nets hat included, and sunglasses on and swaddled with back up dancers. After “Diva,” she gave Brooklyn a shout-out and then asked politely if she could do one more.

Jay-Z To Launch His Own YouTube Channel With A Stream Of Final Barclays Center Concert

Jay-Z To Launch His Own YouTube Channel And Stream Final Night of Concert

He told us back in 2001′s “U Don’t Know,” “I am a hustler baby, I’ll sell water to a well.” Jay-Z wasn’t speaking in hyperbole either. Today he’s one of rap’s greatest moguls due to his entrepreneurial (aka hustling) ethics. According to Heavy, the bus-iness man’s latest venture includes launching a new YouTube channel named after his website Life+Times. Hold on to your chairs because the good news gets even better. On Saturday, October 6 the channel launches at 9:30 with a live stream of his final show of the eight-concert series at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That’s right, folks. You can watch Jay-Z perform your favorite hits from the comfort of your living room sofa. Read more…

Jay-Z And Beyonce Slay In Fundraising, Raked In $4 Million For President Obama’s Campaign

Jay-Z and Beyonce Help Raise $4 Million For Obama

Jay-Z‘s already got “Obama on the text,” so why not host a fundraiser with his wife Beyonce for the president. Jay tweeted yesterday–a rare occurrence–”Guest list. Obama plus 40.” All the bells and whistles were pulled out last night for the lavish fundraising dinner held at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club in New York City. Obama joined the two hosts and about 100 wealthy supporters who each paid $40,000 to be in the president’s presence. Jay-Z and Beyonce helped raise $4 million for the president’s re-election campaign and for the Democratic party, according to Entertainment Weekly. In one night. Hip-hop royalty indeed. Read more…

“I Don’t Usually Email You:” Did You Get Beyoncé’s Email For Obama?

Did you get this email? The November election only ever getting closer, the Obama reelection machine has been churning out the fundraising emails. Ask anyone subscribed about the campaign’s many appeals, and they’ll probably tell you that the subject lines skew intimate (“If you’re ready” or “Hey again”) and that they are often signed-off by “Barack” himself. They will also probably tell you that, with the clip they come in, they just delete most of them. The email that landed in inboxes this morning looked a little different, though, and it’s got those that didn’t get it feeling pretty left out.

“I usually don’t email you,” the message begins. Beyoncé has taken over email duty, and she has “an amazing invitation to share.” Do tell!

Rick Ross Gets “Presidential,” And Obama Gets Lots Of Love From Hip Hop’s Heavyweights

Rick Ross may conflate “royalty” and “chief of state” in the God Forgives, I Don’t cut “Presidential,” but the the song’s new video shows that Rozay has got an eye for politics, too. The song itself is mostly about boss things like “Billie Jean thumping” babes and gold watches, but the video begins anyways with a sample from the speech President Obama gave at last week’s Democratic National Convention. “America, I never said this journey would be easy,” booms the President, assuring then, before “Presidential”‘s Pharrell beat kicks in, that, “Yes our path is harder, but it leads to a better place.” Obama might not have considered “weed crumbs on the cruise ship” when he imagined “a better place,” but there’s no denying that Ross believes that said ship is a marked improvement from “3rd floor projects, feel my point of view.” And so to at least on that point, big Bawse Rick Ross and big Boss Obama can see eye to eye, strictly presidential.

Ross wasn’t the only hip hop heavyweight to show love to President Obama this week. It’s only Tuesday, and already he has won the efforts and affections of some of hip hop’s biggest characters. Who else is feeling the blue this week? Let’s have a look: Read more…

President Obama Thinks Nicki Minaj Was Playing A Character When She Rapped About Being A Republican

Obama Isn't Bothered by Nicki's Faux Mitt Romney Endorsement

President Obama makes no qualms about his nodding head to hip-hop music. It started out with the safe choice, Jay-Z, that played in his iPod earbuds; and eventually Nas and Lil Wayne crept into his diverse music collection. It comes as no shocker that he’d heard through the grapevine of Nicki Minaj‘s verse on Dedication 4‘s “Mercy” where the Barb proclaimed she was a Republican voting for Mitt Romney. When the president was asked by Orlando’s 95.3 radio station about the topic he coolly explained that everything a rapper raps isn’t literal. Exactly, O. Read more…
