10 Roles That Made Us Take These 10 Rappers Seriously As Actors

View Photo Gallery

Remember when rappers only used to rap? Don’t worry if you can’t. MCs have been making forays into film for decades now and, these days, it’s completely common to see them showing off their acting chops on the silver screen. Take Need For Speed for example. The high-octane car flick makes its debut in theaters today, and it’s starring none other than Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi. Cudder’s had huge looks on television in series like How To Make It In America and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but now he’s moving into the big leagues. With a role in the much anticipated Entourage movie next year, it certainly appears as if his career as a thespian is taking off, but he still has a lot to prove. Plenty of rappers before him have been in the same position, and a good number of them made it work, transitioning to movies to smoothly that we almost forgot they used to make music. Almost. For a closer look at who we’re talking about, read on for our breakdown of the 10 Roles That Made Us Take These 10 Rappers Seriously As Actors.

Kid Cudi To His Record Label: ‘If Things Don’t Change Soon, There’s Gonna Be Some Problems’

Artists and record label squabbles are as dated as the existence of said labels. Kid Cudi has a bone to pick with his label Universal Republic for the lack of radio spins for two of his singles from the forthcoming Indicud. Instead of hashing out his concerns in an office or over champagne he aired out his grievances on Twitter. No more are the days of keeping personal/business matters behind closed doors. Read more…

Big Boi And Cudi Want To Make You Love Them With “She Hates Me”

We can’t speak directly to the “breath stinkin’” or the “broken weaslin’”, but one thing we can’t imagine hating Big Boi for is his music. And so where he really loses us in his new lovelorn Kid Cudi collaboration “She Hates Me” is when he tries to convince us that, “Recently she even seems to hate on all my songs.” Has this woman he so loves really not heard any of these new Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors tracks? Not the hometown banger that is “In the A”? Or the so-slick “Lines,” featuring A$AP Rocky? Because she might think she hates him, but we certainly can’t. Read more…

Fiona Apple, Kid Cudi And Passion Pit Rock Hard At Governors Ball

Governors Ball

If rocking out to everything from hip-hop to rock to dance to indie music is your forte, Governors Ball this weekend was the place to be. Slews of music lovers headed to Randall’s Island over the weekend for the annual two day music festival that showcased acts such as Passion Pit, Kid Cudi, Fiona Apple, Beck, Modest Mouse, along with several other acts. Live bands were plentiful, and multi-talented artists were in abundance. Good music and fun seemed to be the Saturday and Sunday theme. Crowd surfing wasn’t an unusual sighting for the amped up concert goers; and when artists jump into the crowd it’s usually a sure fire sign that a blast was had. Check out our gallery of artists performing at the Governors Ball. Read more…

Seeing Threes In G.O.O.D. Music’s “Mercy”

We just have one question: did Kanye West style the G.O.O.D. music crew for “Mercy?” In the video for what’s easily one of the most popular songs of the early summer, Big Sean, Pusha T, 2 Chainz  and Kanye West are all sporting some type of headgear. This has to be Ye’s doing! Attire aside, we’ve watched “Mercy” at least five times in a row. Its left to right camera pans that follow the motions of each rapper is intoxicating. Read more…
