December is nearly upon us, a month in which all of us take a fond look back at the year that was while also plotting on how we can make the following year even more awesome. That said, today is Thanksgiving, a day which is predicated on giving thanks for all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon us. So it’s only natural that we spent some time over the last week carving our way through the archives here at the VH1 Music, being careful to toss the bones to the left and saving all the good, juicy stuff for you today. So, without further ado, here is our list of What We’re Most Thankful For From The World Of Music In 2013.
Last weekend, Lady Gaga and R. Kelly set The Internets™ on fire with their rendition of “Do What U Want” on Saturday Night Live, a performance that reintroduced the concept of sex pushups back into the national consciousness. Earlier today, though, Kells set the bar for tonight’s performance at the American Music Awards impossibly high when he told Rolling Stone that “No offense to #SNL but that was a dress rehearsal for #AMAs.”
J. Roddy Walston And The Business get “Heavy” on Big Morning Buzz Live, Jay Z drops millions for an art legend, and R. Kelly recalls the incident that eventually inspired the title of his forthcoming LP.
Lady Gaga‘s ARTPOP crashes the chart this week, but doesn’t measure up to her previous sales monster. Elsewhere on this week’s chart, Eminem‘s Marshall Mathers LP 2 continues to sell well while fans learn to cope without new material from Rihanna. That and more in this week’s SoundScanner:
Lady Gaga played both host and musical guest on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live and, suffice to say, she won herself a newfound layer of respect from people who think of her solely as a weirdo. She’s caught a lot of flack during her seemingly endless promotional tour for ARTPOP, but both her sense of humor and outstanding musical talent were on full display last night, reaffirming just what a unique talent that she is. Both of those qualities were showcased during her first musical performance last night, “Do What U Want,” which featured a surprise cameo from none other than the Pied Piper of R&B himself, Mr. R.Kelly!
Lady Gaga served as both the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night, marking the 26th time in the show’s 38 seasons that an individual was asked by Lorne Michaels to pull double duty. Gaga, ever the showstopper, did a tremendous job—more on her in a bit!—but what other musicians did the best job of being hilarious during sketches AND singing their faces off?
Lady Gaga‘s eagerly-awaited and endlessly-discussed album ARTPOP finally dropped this Monday, and it appears as if the extended marketing campaign for the LP is working, as projections have her selling approximately 260,000 copies of her latest collection of songs. It’s no shock this fashion-clad, envelope-pushing music mastermind is making such a splash – she’s always surprising the masses. So let’s give a shout out to some of her past hits, and see which song reigns supreme. Do you think Lady Gaga’s video for “Born This Way” or “Alejandro” makes fans go the Gaga-est? Vote now and decide!
Lady Gaga has been on an artistic warpath to make her new album, Artpop, a success. The publicity tour has taken her all over the world, as she hypes her latest release while also attempting shock and awe with her new art-inspired outfits.
