Beyonce Can Be ‘King Bey,’ But Madonna Is Still Queen Of Ratings And Viewership For Super Bowl Halftime Shows

What? You didn’t think Beyonce was going to come back quietly did you? It’s beyond Beyonce overload as we predicted in December, and Bey has returned snatching wigs. Her Super Bowl XLVII performance slayed and has helped solidify her place among the greats such as Prince, Diana Ross and Madonna. And the general consensus may have ranked Bey’s mini-concert (because that’s what she gave) above Madonna’s halftime performance last year, the numbers don’t agree. Read more…

Don’t Get Too Excited About Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP Just Yet

Zedd Talks About Lady Gaga's ARTPOPNext up on this week’s conveyor belt of crushing disappointments (if you happen to be a patriotic Bey stan and Cruel Summer apologist who is also a bit of a monster): There won’t be new Lady Gaga music any time soon. What? Then why did I watch Mother Monster ruin perfectly good cake? Despite the promise of a third album from Gaga in the new year, MTV News has learned that ARTPOP is taking longer than originally planned. It’s still on its way, we’ll just need to wait a while–something we happen to have experience with.

Our friends across the dial spoke with Zedd, the 23-year-old producer and EDM artist who opened for Gaga on last year’s Born This Way Ball and has been collaborating with her on a new sound for ARTPOP despite both of their packed schedules. “The problem with her is obviously that I’m busy and I tour a lot, but she’s probably a lot busier than I am, so it’s hard to find time to work on something together,” he explained. “So we’ve been working on it for over a year now. There’s still a lot of work left, so we’re definitely gonna work on this project for the next month.” Isn’t being “busy”–or just flat-out tardy–what caused the Gaga-Kendrick Lamar collaboration to fall apart last fall? VH1′s 13 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2013

VH1 13 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2013

Now that 2012 is firmly in the rearviewmirror, it’s time to look forward with hope and optimism as to what the year 2013 holds in store for music fans like us. Considering that we’re not even three weeks into January and we’ve already been blessed with two delightful surprises —A new Destiny’s Child song! A new Timberlake jam!— we feel confident that this is going to be another banner year filled with an abundance of both monster pop smashes and crossover gems.

With that in mind, the VH1 Tuner team has put together this list of 13 of our most anticipated albums for 2013, which includes a healthy mix of familiar faces (Beyoncé, Lady Gaga) and artists on the come-up (Big Sean, Diane Birch), brought to you in the order of when we expect them to release their new material.

Tegan and Sara, Heartthrob (Expected Release Date: January 29): Sisters Tegan and Sara Quin have long been staples at alternative radio, but the synth-driven Heartthrob appears like it might be the LP that finally breaks them into the mainstream consciousness. “We really look at this as an opportunity to stretch into a world that we’ve been just outside of for a long time,” Sara recently told our VH1 News crew, and one listen to the album’s lead single, “Closer,” seems to be indicative of the fact that they’ve reached their goal.—Mark Graham
