Do You Agree With Billboard Crowning Rihanna The Top Pop Artist Of The Last 20 Years?

Billboard Crowns Rihanna Top Pop Artist Of The Last 20 Years

Is Rihanna worthy of the gold throne she’s seated in, in the above photo? Billboard thinks so as they’ve chosen her as the top pop artist of the last 20 years. With only seven years under her belt Rihanna beat out veterans Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Usher and Celine Dion. As far as her peers she toppled her bestie Katy Perry, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Chris Brown. Part of Riri’s success can be attributed to her ability to dish out catchy hit after hit. Her hooks hook you. No pun intended. The chorus and hooks immediately come to mind when you hear just the titles of “We Found Love,” “Where Have You Been,” “Umbrella,” “Birthday Cake” and countless others. Is Rihanna’s formula for mastering an infectious song why she leaves her counterparts slouching in the dust? Read more…

Highest Paid Women In Entertainment Forbes

Well, well, well. Singers are making big moves–and by big we mean topping Forbes annual Hollywood’s Highest-Paid Women list. Endorsement deals and other ventures outside of music are paying off in a major way. Unsurprisingly Oprah topped the list pulling in $165 million last year. Pop (and country) divas Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and Rihanna trailed behind Oprah in the second, third and fourth highest paid spots respectively. Talk about Britney Spears making a comeback pulling in $58 million! The new X-Factor judge didn’t make the list last year, but has since bounced back with numerous endorsement deals and a fragrance line. Read more…

Lady Gaga Flashes Her Boobs, But Keeps On Dancing In “Monstervision” Video

Boobs are flying everywhere! In Lady Gaga‘s latest NSFW “Monstervision” video Lady Gaga talks to her beloved monsters, fresh faced with wild blonde hair before sharing three personal home videos. Gaga’s maternal side made our uteri do a flip as she holds her godson Zachary (Elton John‘s son). Once she kissed his chubby cheeks, we melted. Following her glowing god-mommy moment Gaga showed a clip of herself dancing to “Shiza” on Christmas. As she dances/jumps around the living room she lifts her sweater exposing her bare breasts…over and over and over. Not that anyone is complaining. Her sister, who is recording the video, snickers at the silliness of it all. In a flash mom joins her daughter to dance along, handing Gaga a Christmas tree lamp to use as a microphone. Could this mother and daughter moment be more adorable? Read more…

Lady Gaga Barks Back At PETA And Defends Kim Kardashian

furgate

Got fur? Lady Gaga does, and PETA is not too pleased about it. Lady Gaga was recently photographed in a poster for her upcoming film Machete Kills and sported a fur earlier this week in Bulgaria. True to form, PETA’s Jeff Mackey wrote an open letter to Lady Gaga on their website reminding the pop star that she once declared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show “I hate fur and I don’t wear fur.” As if accusing of her of hypocrisy wasn’t crass enough, Mackey compared her to Kim Kardashian writing, “you’re making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian.” Ouch. Lady Gaga Announces Title of Her Next Album With A Tattoo

Last week, Lady Gaga tweeted a picture of  a new tattoo on the underside of her arm with a “new ink new album” message. And,  like only she can do in less than 140-characters, she had the Monster-net scrambling for more evidence that their Mother Monster’s new album might be on its way. A lyric? A song title? An album name? This morning she clarified, confirming casually that the name of her next “album/project” is officially ARTPOP. Like Pop Art, but backwards and — as she’ll be sure you know! — shouted in all uppercase. “Make sure when writing about my new album/project ARTPOP that you CAPITALIZE the title, *its all in the details,*” she instructs. Little Monsters, paws up! There’s new Gaga coming your way. Read more…

The Top 10 Weirdos In Music (And Why We Love Them For It)

In a recent Rolling Stone article, A$AP Rocky explained that “nowadays, everybody wanna be weird. We know how to manifest being weird. We know we some weird-ass looking motherf**kers, and we know we do some weird sh*t.” He continued, “But at the same time, we some geniuses.”

While we’re not entirely sure that we agree with the “genius” tag, it does seem that suddenly every artist is out to “out-weird” each other. Whether it’s what Ke$ha‘s studding, what shoes Lil Wayne‘s rocking, or what Lil B‘s prophesizing, artists are competing to be the most unique and we just can’t get enough of it. Normal is just so boring, isn’t it? The art of music is all about expressing individuality in its purest form, and artists who don’t just let their tunes do the talking are the most appealing to us. We love these artists for embracing their individuality, their unique weirdness, that sets them apart. Brace yourself for our list of the Top 10 Weirdos in Music Today (And Why We Love Them For It).

P!nk Passes Lady Gaga And Katy Perry With 12 Top 10 Hot 100 Hits

Pink Passes Katy Perry and Lady Gaga With 12 Top 10 Hits

Yes, P!nk is known for her feisty personality as the person that says what everyone else is thinking. Take for instance her throwing shade on Twitter about Chris Brown‘s lip-syncing performance at the Billboard Awards, or the “Stupid Girls” song dedicated to, well, stupid girls. But it’s the hits she churns out consistently that she’s best known for. “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” the first single from the forthcoming The Truth About Love, rose 49 positions making it the No. 9 song on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. And that No. 9 position gives her more top 10 hits than Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Considering her 12 year career there’s no surprise there. Read more…

Shearer’s Spotlight: A Farewell To Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream

Each week here on VH1 Tuner, our VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown host Jim Shearer (@jimshearer on Twitter) will be sharing his Shearer’s Spotlight with us. Be sure to tune into the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown tomorrow morning when it airs on VH1 at 9 a.m. ET/PT.

Last week’s theatrical release of Katy Perry’s 3D documentary Part of Me seemingly brings to an end her Teenage Dream era, which officially began on May 11, 2010—the release date of the album’s first single, “California Gurls.” (The full-length came out a few months later on August 24).

Though Adele’s 21 is still hovering around the top of the albums chart, not to mention winning six Grammy Awards; in recent memory I don’t recall a more memorable and productive album cycle than that of Teenage Dream.

Sales-wise (over 2 million albums sold domestically and over 5.5 million worldwide) the numbers don’t support this claim, but as you know—and as Katy Perry might’ve sung in her contemporary Christian past—man does not live on bread alone.
