Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson And Avril Lavigne Sent The Voice Winner, Cassadee Pope, Off In Style
Last night before Cassadee Pope was crowned the winner of Season 3 of The Voice (congrats!), Rihanna and Bruno Mars hit the stage to show of their most definitive voices. These two have been been making the competition show rounds this season — recently: Rihanna killing it on The X Factor UK, Mars bringing down the house on The X Factor — and sounding pretty great on all of the stages. Last night was no exception, Rihanna literally shinning bright and beautiful while performing “Diamonds” in a black bedazzled jumpsuit (above); and a dashing and sunglass shaded Mars singing his gutting new ballad, “When I Was Your Man” (below). Pope would be wise to take some cues from these two, because — see how easy they make sounding so good seem? They’ve got this down pat.
L.A. Reid Chucks The Deuces To X Factor To Refocus Energy On Running Epic Records
Sure L.A. Reid may not be the huge celebrity draw for The X Factor like his co-judges Britney Spears, Simon Cowell or Demi Lovato, but his ear for talent is as seasoned as they come. L.A. Reid is known for his hand in leading music’s biggest acts–Mariah Carey, TLC, P!nk, Toni Braxton–to platinum success. His gift to spot a star the way a tiger smells its preys will be missed on the third season of The X Factor. Read more…
Here Comes Chavril: Avril Lavigne Covers Her Husband-To-Be’s “How You Remind Me”

This was made inevitable with their engagement, but we can’t say we thought it would come this soon or that it would be so on-the-nose, but here we have it: Avril Lavigne has covered her soon-to-be husband Chad Kroeger‘s super-sized breakout hit “How You Remind Me,” and for an upcoming anime film called One Piece Film Z, at that! Avril takes the brutish, blustery anthem and turns it into a nice and thoughtful piano ballad. She throws in a few cymbal flourishes and — well, it’s really not so bad! If a series of finely executed covers is how Chavril chooses to remind us of their love, that would be just fine by us.
Good Singer, Bad Dancer: 14 Artists With Tremendous Pipes Who Never Quite Figured Out How To Move (GIF WALL)
For every Michael, Beyoncé and Usher, there’s a Christina, Mariah or Rihanna. Try as they might, the latter group of hot pop acts just can’t coordinate that whole singing-while-dancing thing. Their beats and belting may be tight on the radio, but when it comes to rocking dance moves in a music video, even some of the best sirens fall flat. For your amusement, check out these hilarious GIFs (you’re welcome) of crooners we adore who demonstrate some of the worst rump shaking we’ve ever seen. Debate our list in the comments below and, more importantly, let us know whose lack of rhythm we failed to catch.
Mariah Carey - “Shake It Off”
Moroccan and Monroe weren’t even zygotes yet, but Mariah looks like she was practicing serious mom moves in this video. Luckily, Mimi’s vocal acrobatics helped us shake off the memory of her awful wannabe thug life bleacher rocking, so all is forgiven.
What Should We Expect From Avril Lavigne And Chad Kroeger’s Marriage?
Surely you’ve heard by now, but for those who have missed today’s big news: Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger have gone and gotten engaged. Which, well, “What The Hell”? According to People magazine, the two met last February when they got together to co-write a song for Lavigne’s upcoming fifth studio album. Plenty of relationships have started like this, Avril’s first marriage to Sum 41‘s Deryck Whibley included. But that made sense: the king and queen of mall-punk, united in pop derelictions and eye liner. Avril and Chad’s collaboration — neither nuptial nor musical — we can’t say we saw coming. Together they’ll share an enormous combined audience, and so probably their meeting was destined by the radio gods. But otherwise? Read more…
What Album Has Sold The Most Copies In The Last 10 Years? (Hint: It’s Not Adele)
Everyone knows that the years 2000-2010 were not very good for the music industry. Thanks to a perfect storm of rapid technological shifts, widespread piracy, consumer apathy, and executive ineptitude, the industry suffered through a slump that nearly killed off the entire business model. That is, until Adele came along!
We’re being slightly facetious, but Adele is credited by many as having (temporarily) saved the music business. Her landmark album, 21, just sold its 8 millionth copy here in the United States, making it the 4th most successful album to be released on these shores in the last 10 years. Care to venture any guesses as to the two artists who have sold more copies of their respective albums than her? If you find yourself either stumped or looking for validation, we’ve got the Top 10 Selling Albums of the Last 10 Years for you below.
The 6 Best Sets Of Devastated Raccoon Eyes In Music Video History
Oh, heartbreak! We’ve all felt it’s cruel pincers nipping at our heart at one time or another, and we’ve all at some point cried the devastated tears of loss. And let’s be real — we’ve probably listened to one of our favorite pop stars sing about the whole sordid palaver while we’ve wallowed in our own despair. So that got us to thinking of the expressiveness of sadness in music videos, and the one motif that seems consistent across the songs of different artists — black mascara tears. Because musicians are not always the best actors, and because of the highly visual spectacle of pop music, dramatic smudged raccoon eyes in scenes where the stars are crying seems like a go to for the more melancholy songs. With that in mind, we’ve selected our favorite runny raccoon eyes — have we missed any? What are your faves?
1. Beyoncé – “Why Don’t You Love Me?”
Beyoncé wins best panda eyes on the strength of melodrama. Oh, and because she looks really hot in vintage style lingerie. Clearly tortured, Beyoncé’s panda eyes are paired with martinis, cigarettes, and just the right amount of crazy to make the whole thing unbearably sexy.
2. Katy Perry – “The One That Got Away”
There’s so much emotion in the scene where Katy Perry is crying in her future self’s wardrobe in “The One That Got Away” that we just want to give the girl a big hug. Katy gets points for realism — we’re pretty sure that even without the panda eyes we’d still feel the heartbreak.
