Morrissey hits the road, a Beyonce and Chris Brown collaboration actually exists, The Smashing Pumpkins bring in the reinforcements for Fallon and more on Last Lap.
Taylor Swift‘s 1989 puts her last two albums to shame, Pharrell may be once again seeing the estate of Marvin Gaye in court, Morrissey may have jacked some fan art without permission and more on Last Lap.
Big egos, big ideas, and big global presence mean that when musicians have something to say, they’re not only quick to run their mouths, their words spread across the pop culture consciousness like wildfire. From racist slurs to homophobic comments and even weighing in on politics, being a musician (to some) is a mandate to just say senseless stuff. From John Mayer’s racist Johnson to Shirley Manson’s primitive desires, these celebrities have given us some of the most controversial quotes of our time.

ELTON JOHN IS NOT HAVING IT WITH MADONNA
“Her career’s over, I can tell you that,” he said, before he called her a “f***ing fairground stripper” but after he called her pop “brilliant.” [VH1Celebrity] Read more…
The 2012 Summer Olympics officially kicked off with an opening ceremony conceived by the Academy Award winning British film director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire,
Trainspotting, 28 Days Later). One of the sections of tonight’s broadcast bore the unusual name Frankie And June Say Thanks Tim, a love story that contained what NBC’s Matt Lauer described as “a tribute to the best British musical acts of the last 40 years.” Well, although Boyle and his musical supervisors managed to include a decent selection of bands that could be considered canon-worthy, we’d like to call your attention to this (quite undefinitive!) list of 29 highly respected bands that got royally snubbed (in alpha order*):
Elton John (!!!)
Excuse us, Morrissey, but it looks like you’ve got a little something stuck up there…
Former The Smith‘s singer Morrissey donned a feline in hopes of helping to curb animal over-population. In an accompanying statement he explains that, “Despite the fact that they’re incredibly intelligent, animals unfortunately haven’t yet worked out how to slip on a rubber,” and that over-breeding leads to too-full shelters. “Please do the right thing,” the vegan and animal rights activist begs, encouraging pet owners to spay or neuter their animals while a real, live cat sits atop his head. The whole thing’s a little confounding and pretty silly, but it did get our attention just as a good ad should.
Controversial as the PETA may be, we can’t help but love their ads, Morrissey’s being only the most recent. Click through to see our five favorites that feature musicians:
Promoting his hit single “Without You,” David Guetta appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, joined by Usher, who brough some serious dance moves to the stage. Spinning, u-turning and collar-popping, Usher employed all the signature moves he’s known for, all the while singing over Guetta’s trancetastic beats. With a team of back-up dancers, flashing lights, psychedelic visualizations and shooting flames, the stage was transformed into a Euro-techno party with Usher and Guetta revving up the audience. No wonder this song is shooting towards the top of our VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown!
